The mere fact of what you have written kind of show you have truly not travelled around. I travel to china on a regular basis and 99% places do not accept Visa or Mastercard. Whether it is issued by malaysian or singapore banks, doesn't matter. They just do not have the facility to accept. Unionpay no problem even for those issued in malaysia. Taiwan has NO union pay and accept all forms of visa and Mastercard. I have no problem there. In Japan my malaysian credit card was used last week to buy a shinkansen ticket. No problem there. Purchased a blue label bag for missus using my malaysian issued card. No problem.

Either you are assuming heavily based on your fictitious tour guides or you might have ventured into Zimbabwe instead. But then again Zimbabwe does accept malaysian issued credit card.

Visa and Master are banned in China.

So they have no choice but to use unionpay.

This is my old memory only, now I dunno the situation in china.

yes, provided your credit limit is high enough.

I think some ppl can buy myvi or even the low end almera/jazz/vios/city...

hhhmmmm, the other question would be, can you use 0% instalment plan to pay for your car purchase?

hmm.gif  hmm.gif  hmm.gif
*
usually no, and CC interest rate usually higher than car loan interest, so most ppl will not use CC to buy car ... unless can settle in short period.

visa/mc no longer banned but not widely supported.

maybe those big luxury shops might accept visa/mc.

bcos china has their own credit card brand that they wanna promote, which is unionpay.

I recall 1-2 years back, suria klcc became the 1st shopping complex in Malaysia to accept unionpay at all merchants there (previously the retailer won't accept it bcos no local banks have unionpay contract).

and unionpay used to have bad rep in Malaysia back when they were still using magnetic strip tech, which is prone to fraud and cloning....
*
support for unionpay will promote tourists to swipe card here, so there's pro also.

but it's quite impossible we can apply unionpay card, so going to china we still have to bring cash sad.gif

bcos why buy a myvi when your income can buy merc/bmw/Bentley or even the higher end Japanese luxury brands like lexus/infiniti?

tongue.gif
*
depends on one's income

if let's say my CC limit ngam ngam can buy a myvi.

if i swipe and buy it, i have to pay rm40k in one go. pocket will burn big hole cry.gif

if i pay a bit interest for car loan, every month maybe pay like rm800 only.

so i guess that's why most people dun use CC to buy car.

but i still heard ppl bring cash to buy cheap produa or proton car b4, bagi cash to sales and drive away the car tongue.gif

that joker claimed that we can open account at Bank of China at jln ampang and get a unionpay debit card linked to our account at BoC Malaysia for use in china.

this part I can at least believe.

but to claim that Malaysian credit cards are not accepted at all outside of Malaysia is  doh.gif  doh.gif  doh.gif
*
oic.

usually people will accept visa and master card lar.

but i dun deny some merchants will refuse to accept malaysia credit card, due to exchange rate is dropping gradually.

but that is those private merchants personal choice, overall visa and master card is widely accepted.

But the merchants aren't affected by the MYR exchange rate. They get paid in their currency regardless of the RM value/performance !

like i said, it's the merchant personal choice, some merchant get paranoid n sked liao.

dun underestimate the paranoid power brows.gif

right now due to low ringgit exchange power, i also dun dare to go oversea travel cry.gif

why should they deny it unless your credit limit can't support your purchase?

bcos the retailer gets paid in their currency, not ours.

if anything it's us the card user that will have to bear the volatile exchange rate.

I had this experience when I purchased something in USD where the rate was usd1 = myr3.83 on the day of transaction but when it was finalised 3 days later on my mb2u page the rate was now usd1= myr3.95.

but that guy claimed that if we buy something overseas using Malaysian credit card, the retailer will get payment in MYR.

doh.gif  doh.gif  doh.gif

anyway, legally ringgit in cash form are not legal tender outside of Malaysia.

and legally we cannot bring out more than rm10k in cash form unless we declare at immigration and fill out a form.

only the money changers in Singapore will never decline MYR exchange bcos they need a steady supply of MYR due to the Malaysian ppl working there converting their salaries...
*
coz some of them have unnecessary paranoid ma.

example many people believe you need to circle the credit card receipt amount when you signed a credit card receipt. that is actually totally unnecessary.

but 8/10 malaysians still go and circle the receipts.

Playing with words again.

This is just 1-2 months back.

BNM is trying so hard to cover everything up that their spokesmen are going out everywhere to downplay anyone who brings up about this problem in the media.

PETALING JAYA: Don't blame the fluctuation of the ringgit for any rejection of Malaysian credit cards for transactions overseas, says Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).

Responding to a query on a report that a Malaysian executive had her credit card rejected at points of sales overseas, a central bank official said any fluctuation in the ringgit would not affect the acceptance of credit cards issued in Malaysia as such transactions were based on the clearing and settlement mechanism between the parties involved.

The official, who was not named, told China Press: "It is illogical to blame the rejection of Malaysian credit cards overseas on how the ringgit fares. The rejection of a Malaysian's credit card by overseas business outlets has nothing to do with the strength of the Malaysian currency."

Although the ringgit is not accepted as legal tender for transactions at business outlets overseas nor accepted by money changers at foreign countries, there has never been any doubt on the use of Malaysian credit cards overseas.

According to China Press, it had been reported that the Malaysian executive complained that an American outlet for luxury brands and a British international airport refused to accept her credit card, forcing her to use her debit card, and prompting her to believe that the two incidents had to do with the devaluation of the ringgit.

The BNM official explained that in many instances, Malaysian credit cards were rejected because the cardholders were not aware of the details of their cards, such as the credit limit.

http://www.thesundaily.my/news/1544098

They're trying to derail anyone who tries to bring up about the topic with non-relevant replies and end the conversation using official channels which are under their orders.

I can further confirm this with a few friends and relatives who just recently came back from tour holiday to China from the past 1-2 weeks. Some of them had to go on starvation because they were too confident of not holding much RMB notes and went there with their Malaysian credit cards. End up have to skip many meals not covered by the tour package because none of the Malaysian credit cards can buy them food.Want to withdraw cash advance also cannot. The local tour agent initially did not know why the Malaysian tourists decided to skip meals only after a few times he brave himself to question them only to find out that they had no cash in hand to buy food even from the supermarket at the malls he toured them around.

China usually do not accept Visa and Master. I thought this a common knowledge?

we cannot use use Visa and Master card in China, it is generally not accepted, because China gov want to push people use unionpay only.

China have a different socio-economic rules than most of the other countries, example Google are not allow in China. Don't ask why, that's their rule.

So before go to China, must ask bank and tourist agent advice on how to withdraw money or use credit card over there.
