Resolution vs Refresh rate, A generic question

In terms of better viewing experience, which takes the higher priority, a monitor with higher resolution or higher refresh rate?
Let's say I'm looking to upgrade my 1080p 60Hz monitor, and there's only two choices: - A 1080p 144 Hz monitor; OR - A 1440p 60 Hz monitor Any sifu who has tried both can give their opinion? |

1440p 144hz would be better provided your gpu able to provide the juice while gaming
