After reading all the post in this thread, I've finally bought Philips DVP5986k/98 at Carrefour for RM339.00. Include free HDMI cable (Giraffe brand). rclxms.gif

Wowww... nice price huh.... which carrefour u bought from? need to get 1 also rclxms.gif

hows the PQ?

Carrefour Batu Pahat. Actually I didn't expect to get a HDMI cable, but when they open the box to test the unit, there already a HDMI cable inside. Even the manual says no HDMI cable supplied.

About the PQ, before this, I'm hooking my LCD TV to a laptop via PC-Input for watching movie and I notice improvement and I notice the colour seems richer.

That's a good deal you managed to get. How's the performance?

For dvp5986k, the unsupported resolution will be unselectable or u can just set it to auto.

Just bought Phillips DVP5986K from ESH in Klang at RM390 and hooked it up to my Sharp 37A53M..

Played few dvd using the HDMI and upscale it to 1080i and the picture you can really see the difference compared using only the component video cable.

However, can you play divx movies from the USB port? Try it yesterday with my external hard drive, but no success.

Certainly can if u r using a pen drive. Maybe u need to convert ur ext HDD to FAT32. My friend Multimedia HDD player can only be used with FAT32.

convert to FAT32, and if ur ext HDD big with a lot of files, pls wait a moment

True.. but i think the major problem is the displayed name (folder/file) that oly up to 10 character (i think). Make sure u rename ur video in order (from eps 1 to last).

Hahaha, sad lor ........ here a 42 incher costs a bomb.
Well, I believe such a cable should be included if they're selling a dvd upscaling player, no point selling one but ask the customer to buy the cable seperately.

For my case, stated in the manual the box should include a component cable, but it didnt. Only has composite cable. Maybe they already replace the component with HDMI as a standard accessory.
