hi guys, ive been doing some research on rog GL552JX and Dell Inspiron 7559 since they both are quite similar in terms of spec and price. Besides, i realized most of LYN member prefer 7559 and GL552 hardly get mentioned. is there a reason why GL552 being overlooked?

Asus after sale service (main point) isnt the best compared to Dell and Dell hit a home run with this model (For me anyways).

hmm interesting. nvr really thought after sales can affect so much. i was thinkg to go for rog but the plastic body sends doubts into my head. i had an asus laptop a few years ago, used for 4 years at least, same thing, plastic. The hinges didnt last long, started with cracks on one hinges and as time goes by, the laptop ended up in half rclxub.gif

my experience tells me ASUS laptop is built to last as im using another asus laptop, A55V. superb laptop, good material, strong and durable. meanwhile dells and acers were infamous with hardware problems back then.

so im on the hunt again. looking for a good budget laptop that can last for few years. to put faith on DELL or stay faithful to ASUS? icon_question.gif

Asus is good. dont get me wrong just that their warranty service isnt that good. Get the one you prefer since you are going to use it anyways.

Dell seems to hit a home run with this model. Good cooling, great chassis for self maintenance. Good spec for the price.

As with everything, if you take good care of it, do regular maintanence, any laptop will last you for a very long time brother.

If you're looking at long term then better also consider that the 7559 doesn't support DDR4 at the moment. So with 2 slots you're limited to max 16GB while with DDR4 you can go up to 16GB per slot = max 32GB.

But again, only an issue if you need more RAM in the future.

Im also taking thunderbolt into account as im looking for long term. Maybe I should wait awhile more to see whether dell will bring thunderbolt to their mid range product or not.

Just an advice, you'd generally want a laptop that can be easily disassembled on your own so you can clean and do your maintenance. No point getting a mid/high end laptop that clogs up with dust after months of usage.

with the price and specs, i was hoping for the laptop to be fully functional for at least 1 year 6 months or more.

Just after a year of using it (bought it on July,2013) , it started to lag and overheated.

I mean, with dual fans and always be in an air-conditioned room (average 18-20'C temp) , how can that happened after only using it for a year ?

The games that i played was Dota 2, Dota, BF3 & NFS : Rivals.

Tried to play bf4 but the lap cant handle it.. after a while , even NFS cant play no more.

Sent it to service and the performance improved but the dual fans kept on spinning like twister.

Reformatted the laptop and now i only uses it for work & dota 2.

i am not a gig or pro in techs, but i expect with that kind of specs & price, at least it should be more tougher .

i d k

anyone can help me to fix that thing ?

Btw how much is ur budget.

If I were you, between 2 options left, I take Dell.
Here the fact, a friend of mine's laptop motherboard was spoiled due to overheat, he sent to its SC. Straight to the point, the SC delayed the service and told him no spear part, out of stock, many queries and bla3. It took 3 months, still they do not have spear part, then they just decided to replace refurbished set.

3 months without laptop, luckily he had another old notebook left, otherwise I wonder how he survive a long semester.

Dell having skylake processor and better gpu, what attracted me is, 4k resolution screen tongue.gif

Already ordered dell. Now waiting for the arrival which takes around 10 days. For that spec, dell is the cheapest. Someone told me rog gl552 (similar spec to 7559) does better in gaming compare to 7559. Im not an avid gamer but I play dota most of the time. However, i would like try some graphic hungry game like the gta v at some point of time. Just wondering is it true that dell (has better spec on paper) handle games poorer than rog?

Maybe rog series need some serious attention from asus since theyre more pricey compare to others and their build looks cheap tho.

I just sold my a55v two days ago. It was the best laptop i had so far. Quality build. However the keyboard gets quite warm occasionally when playing dota (without ac) and the fan getting loud lately. Also, getting laggy and response getting slow.Probably too old .Otherwise is a good laptop.

I do take brands into consideration. Given the budget and the identical specs among the competition, the tie breaker is the existing user reviews and brands reputation.
