I was playing a game when my screen turned from normal to purple, and it also duplicates what's on the screen about 3 times >_<

What could be the reason here? I have searched online and got different answer i.e lcd problem, cable problem, gpu problem..?

I have opened the laptop before to check the ribbon cable but it didn't change anything.

Warranty is loooong over.

if you boot in windows no problem, operate office no problem, listening to music no problem, play movie no problem..... BUT ONLY play games got problem, most probably the GPU is failing.

try play other games that don't need your GPU, use onboard intel graphic instead, see if the purple thing still come up or not.

PS: are you using 3rd party driver ? did you overclocked your GPU ? now is the time to revert to official driver. or downclock it, over heat will damage the GPU, sometimes spoiled GPU.

Oh, actually it is purple the whole time, even when i boot and it's showing the windows logo. I don't know if it works but I use CCC to set the switchable graphics to the amd gpu instead of intel hd graphics when I use browser as I always use plugged in (battery also kong rolleyes.gif )

I have not changed the driver since I bought it, however I bought it 2nd hand so I can't say if the previous owner did or not..
Never overclocked, don't know how to anyway

Sounds like it's something with the display?

Thank you for the reply btw, I really appreciate notworthy.gif

try another method to narrow it down, see if it is the LCD or GPU, do you have VGA or HDMI output ?
use it on your TV or monitor, if the picture is purple also, most probably GPU
if the picture is normal and clear, most probably LCD or cable.

no problem, happy to help.

that proves your intel GPU is fine.
now play games with your AMD see if the purple still exist.
if everything fine after change monitor, i think you can go check on the cable.

ask the PC shop if they can let you try out new LCD or not.
cable usually stick very tight with LCD, and i don't see many LCD cable spare parts sold in any shop,
you can ask for one, but i doubt any shop owner will have that in their store.

so you most probably only left one choice, which is changing the LCD (if you still want to fork out money to fix your old laptop)

just an elimination method of problem solving, i'm not even major in IT.

anyway, since you have nothing to lose now, try a risky method : buy contact spray cleaner at about RM20
unplug the cable of the LCD, spray some contact cleaner on the cable contact point, and give it a proper re-plug, see if it helps.

maybe cable connecting from motherboard to display already loosen or misaligned.
earlier tried angling the notebook's monitor at certain angles and i able to replicate at which angle the display color goes wonky.. sometimes purple, red, yellow, green at times.
during this time, everything is just fine except my laptop was really old

the same problem i faced with my old acer notebook, aged 7 years n K.Oed.
the same thing also happen with vga cables from any pc/laptop vga port to an external display. always happen at college vga cables for projector

I just tried to play around with my laptop display's angle, but every angle still had the problem. Thanks for the suggestion though flex.gif
