Hi guys I am newbie here, a foreigner from algeria , running car rental in my country for 4 years ago. I m thinking to setup a car rental in malaysia therefore I ve read some suitable topics in lowyat forum and I saw this topic : http://wahiabdrashid.com/287/menubuhkan-syarikat-kereta-sewaI have some questions about it: 1-what does mean : " license of the local authority" and is it enough for running car rental and make contracts legally with customers ? 2-what the difficult parts for getting "license tourism" and how long does it take ? 3-if we have been working full legally (tourism license) with blended cars , Authorized / not Authorized vehicles , the question is if some client made a trouble (drug,kidnapping....) through not Authorized car, does the law protect us ? kind regards

I can't advise on license issues - but as a foreigner you'll require quite a bit of paid up capital - minimum of RM500k and in most cases RM1 million just to get started. Just so you're aware of this!

Not necessarily long term - but to get any kind of work permit 500k is the minimum. Many kind of businesses require RM1 million How are you planning on running the business if you can't work in Malaysia legally?

QUOTE(algerian2015 @ Dec 26 2015, 10:48 PM) do u think the competition in rental car is very high ? I don't know but the alternatives are attractive enough that most people find it a convenience and a much better option than taking the taxi. Maybe you should do a bit of market research.

You wouldn't even be able to open or operate a company / bank account, let alone apply for any licenses that you need.

Well I'm sure there's some ways (there always is!) but then you're looking at trusting others with absolutely everything - unless you have trusted partners you know in Malaysia this sounds like a risky idea. Regarding the actual business - most tourists that come to Malaysia don't rent a car, not like New Zealand or USA for example where driving holidays are very popular. Taxis etc are relatively cheap and many tourists would just rent one with a driver for a day to save hassle involved with renting a car. Students I can't comment on though

QUOTE(algerian2015 @ Dec 26 2015, 11:17 PM) could you advice me for some simple and good business for about RM200K ? ? If you have experience in car rental business that's what makes sense. Why do you specifically want to do this in Malaysia? As a foreigner it's a pain in the ass with all the different requirements. I've registered companies in some European countries, in HK and in Malaysia. Malaysia was by far the longest and most expensive out of them all. I think you need to come up with a proper plan before worrying about details which are irrelevant until you actually have a solid plan in place

Falling oil prices lead to economic crisis in Algeria ... and you choose to come to Malaysia ... ? ! Perhaps you know that Malaysia is somewhat more diversified and have other exports. But you do not know that the government's budget was/is overly reliant on oil. Economic crisis is not that far away.

Economic crisis is not that far away. our budget depends on oil more than 98% , we produce nothing , and u don't forget we r drowning in bad corruption. our economic crisis always turn to security crisis , maybe you heard about terrorism in algeria in 90s.
