Recently i had a very bad experience servicing my car (Kancil). Due to my nearly zero knowledge in cars, I have to bear a hefty cost for current service plus additional headache that the workshop has caused me. They claim to fix my problem here but now my car is having high temperature problem and i cannot take back my car from the workshop. sad.gif

I would like to know, how can i start to learn more about my car? Although i know that troubleshooting car's problem is not as easy as simple as the computer, but at least i would like to have a knowledege to pin point certain problems should anything arises.

The Best way is ASK. Like forum, read forum, about the Problems your car have and see what the possibility that your car might be into.

Do this in sequential order:

1) Go understand how an engine works
2) Go understand what makes a car move
3) Go understand the basic components a car has
4) Go understand the evolution of cars from the past until now
5) Come here and start asking questions

well.....before you go into all those, the first and foremost thing you should do is:-

0) Read you car's manual.

Wrong Wrong Wrong.. hahahhaha

1) Join the car forum of your car
2) Hang out at the gatherings/mamak of your car forum
3) Join them at their preferred mechanics
4) Repeat step 2-3.

That's how you get to know more about your car. Not from books. Forums only help a little but nothing beats spending hours at your mechanic on weekends watching and learning from them. That's what I've been doing for the last 6 years.

what about your fren, none of your fren use kancil?

take note of the problems you normally face during driving, know the reason by asking and then start to build up knowledge from there...

this site might be giving general knowledge, but bear in mind not all car is the same, just to gain a quick fundamental, this should suffice:

The best they could do after messing up and not knowing how to fix it back was just to say that my car is old.

I always hang out with my car freaks friend. One of them is driving a Wira 1.8 exi, and he really does know a lot about cars. And we share a common interest, loves to hang out at our mechanic friends and and always DIY this and that doh.gif

Buy a Automotive book from MPH, i bought one last time, very informative, the book is still with me here, cost me about RM78, worth it. The book is pretty thick, i think there's about 400 - 500 pages.

Yea, go and ask mechanics, but in this case if you don't know any could be a problem.

Don't expect all the information in forums are 100%, right.

Takes sometime to learn, but no prob lare. I was like you also last time when I started to learn about cars. I'm not shy nor afraid to ask, because when I ask, i'm already suceed 50%.

Don't be shy to ask. tongue.gif

Some people are afraid kena tembak for nothing, for asking stupid questions. Don't bother, just ask. smile.gif
