Key to withstanding very cold weather is to wear layers. So your base layer can be the heattech, then your interior clothes like maybe shirt and jeans and exterior layer can be a jacket or down coat. Peel them off accordingly when you are in or out. Remember to cover your ears and hands too....

Yes, cotton inner. Usually white. 2 pieces: shirt & pants. Universal traveller would be the easiest place to find those. There is one shop in KL that sells winter clothings much cheaper than UT. But I can't remember the name.

Although from personal experience, I only wear long johns when the temp is below 10 degrees. Because very leceh to put them on. And then when you go indoors, suffer la panas.

Wore it at NZ brrrrrrr. Freaking cold. Ended up wearing other long sleeve inner wear. I find when its cold its colder wearing heattech and when its hot its gets hotter. Like I said maybe it's me.

Long John got different grade for different temp. Go universal and ask. Now they have those synthetic one which cost around 200 but super thin and comfortable unlike conventional Long John.

If you are well going to travel often I suggest get a good proper long John as it can last you for a long time.
Ear muffs can get from daiso rm.5.30 only. They also sell heat patch. It's quite helpful.

Yes heattech from uniqlo also able to keep heat trapped inside. Long john is long sleeve shirt and long pants designed to trapped your body heat and keep winds from going inside. Uniqlo heattech is decent price and not thick also.

Sorry I dun really know about long john, but may I asked where in New Zealand you are going? Bcox the bf was there a while ago, auckland and wellington, mostly city area, and he said the weather there wasn't extremely unbearable, and he survived without a winter jacket / long john, just a normal jacket.

Sports Direct sell good quality thermal wear, price is OK too.

Fabric is thin but retains the heat well - tested skiing in Korea.

I don't know why people are discussing New Zealand at this time of year - it's summer down there?

I usually wear them. Can buy easily in Malaysia from those travelling wear shops. Take note. If you are big sized. Better get what you can here. Overseas sometimes dun have your size. I tried long John and jeans ok oledi for even 0c. But need to wear at least 5-6 layers of cloths if you cannot stand cold weather.

Temperature is useless without factoring wind.

Check the windchill factor or sometimes they will write "feels like" xx temperature.

Anyway, your best bet will be some kind of long john be it synthetic material or wool, then a layer of wool clothing , then a water/ wind proof layer.

Don't forget accessory such as winter socks, winter shoes/boots gloves and cap. Sunglasses if you are expecting a lot of outdoor. You will feel as warm as your coldest body part, usually the toes, fingers, face, ears, neck

Oh yea, the above if properly done can last you few hours at minus 15

Yes, heattech is enough for around 0-10°
Buy the extra warm maybe would give better heat
Buy 1 set here than when you go there buy another set or two. If you'll be there for many days, using just 1 set doesn't seem hygiene enough. tongue.gif

Most important to pair with long john or heattech is the windbreaker, if go to windy place you don't have wind breaker your long john or heattech is useless.

clothing at universal traveler is so ugly and expensive.
heat tech is actually enough. wear a knit clothing.
and an outer on top of it.
you dont want to wear too much or you will suffer when you go indoor.
your body produce more heat when you are outdoor but when you go indoor suddenly, its gonna be hell for you.
just be careful with your neck and hand area. if possible, your head too

Back in 2005, around rm100++ per set. I don't know about Uniqlo though. Seldom buy their clothes.

Anyway, I agree with those that said better buy there. Just get 1 set of winter clothings here. Sampai sana go shopping. More choice to suit your style, better quality, can be cheaper as well.
