HLB is the 2nd best alternative to non-premier cards... alliance VI gives 1 mile = RM 2.80 spend.
Problem with these cards is that it's only valid for transfer to Enrich..

Citibank exchange is rather high...

erm guys.. anyone familiar with transit rules for MH OW redemption?

I was on the line with customer service just now for a flight plan. The flight supposed to reach HKG at about 9pm at night. As there are no more flights out of HKG to KUL (last flight 8.30pm), the only way is to take the HKG - KUL flight the next day at 12pm. Customer service told me that this is considered a stopover hence will be issued separate ticket.

I recall that as long i depart within 24 hours of arriving, it's considered a transit right? Any where i can get the T&C on this? This is because having my ticket as a transit means i only need about 72k miles as compared to 99k miles if it's a stopover.

that depend on your spending pattern..
if your spending all could be use on AMEX then M2C Premier would be best card for you..
if not, you have to find other card
*
Even if you have to use VI it's still one of the better miles earning card as normal transaction gives 2x points for VI. You'll only need 4770 points to convert 1000 miles which equivalent to RM 2.38 / 1 mile. So far have yet to come across any other card that beats this..

Unless you're spending on Utilities, Gov, Insurance, this is still the card to go. For spending in these category, you'll only get 1x TP. There are other cards out there that earns better than this.

No doubt.. Maybank VI so far hv the best conversion rate for miles with 2x point every RM spend exclude utilities, insurance and education 1x point. U get 0 point for gov related transaction.

If you one of the HNW person then get Maybank Visa Diamante card...u can get 5x points with every RM spend though is just for invitation only.
*
Please confirm if Diamante has 5x for all purchases.. cos my boss has this card and i'm pretty sure the earning rate is 2x as per other VI card. I know cos i handle her CC statement and payments. would've noticed if it's 5x.

Because of this, most of the time if merchant can accept AMEX, then i'll use mine to make payment to get 5x points.

u still need others to confirm when u have seen n handled your boss's Diamante card?

Someone commented that the earning is 5x ma. AFAIK, it is 2x earning and that's what the RM told us. Maybe the other forumer meant was pairing it with amex reserve to get 5x on transaction

if able to put USD 1 mil in mbb just for the Diamante card....still want that extra few treat points meh....

You'll be surprised at how the rich are careful with their money if their own hard earned income. Thats the reason why they are where they are. Maximizing the return of your money is the 1st rule of the game.

Also, 1M AUM is not equivalent to spending 1M buying things. parking it under FD and earning interest is also considered AUM.

anyone have experience redeeming KF miles to flights on *A?

what's the tax like for flights operated by ANA or EVA? doing a feasibility study first before taking a plunge into KF world..

KF tax surcharge is quite scary.... more so than MH taxes. lol

well....like i said, the problems associated with redemption of miles into flights is relevant, as that will have a big influence in deciding which ffp you convert your points into...and i have almost a million points waiting to be converted, as i cannot decide which ffp to use....

jack, i have never redeem full with kf, only part redemption as i don't have that many miles in kf....i have trial check kf for mel and bne about 4-5 months ahead, but can never find a confirmed seat...always waitlist....i don't want to commit my points into kf and be stuck...on the other hand, enrich is pretty crappy at the moment...
*
Limeuu, IIRC, to get confirmed seats on popular routes, you need to book like between 355 days to 320 days ahead when they release the award. afterwards, they'll keep the seats as revenue ticket until maybe 2-3 weeks before flight. What to do, ppl want to maximize revenue.

Perhaps you can try this method which my uncle does for KF (he's a Solitaire), call KF center once you have available dates, put a hold / reservation on the ticket then only do the TP transfer from MBB to KF. I was surprised at the duration he was able to hold the ticket. For eg, flight depart in 2nd May 2017, the agent put a hold on the ticket for him till end Mar 2017. By then, he needs to have the points and payment to confirm the ticket.

This way, you keep your TP in MBB acc and only transfer when required.

I gather that if you call the CS, you will not be eligible for the 15% discount? In any case, 1 year booking in advance is crazy!  ohmy.gif
*
If booking is under SQ airline, you'll get 15% discount. they'll add in automatically for you.

What to do, everyone also want to sit good airline... law of supply and demand. Since points and miles are added benefits and not cash out of your pocket, just think of it as a treat lo, rather than a purchase.

If dun wan fight with anyone and high availability, can stick with Enrich...

by the way, did i mentioned that you can do date change for award redemption? it's an awesome feature. There's a small fee, but this flexibility gives more peace of mind for bookings so far in advance. This applicable for F and J class. For economy, you may be required to top up the miles (if redeemed using the lowest class ticket).

I didn't know they can "hold" a booking...but i presume calling the call centre will mean no 15% discount?...

*
Holding a booking is possible, but i think it depends on the agent and perhaps FF level.
15% discount even for call in redemption has been documented by other FFers. As long the flight is on SQ metal, you get 15% discount on redemption.

Lucky from OMAAT wrote about this  some time back.
Thanks to members like bro GenX and bearbear for their tireless efforts in posting all things related to miles and points from a Malaysian perspective. Maybe I should stop being lazy and start posting, maybe focusing on redemption for large groups and families.

Yeah, it's nice to have people to contribute knowledge about the arcane arts of award redemption especially from a Malaysian / Singaporean perspective. Most of the articles / sharing online is from US / Europe where they have different mechanism which is hard to replicate here. I got into utilizing my cards all thanks to bro GenX. without his articles, i think i would still be changing points to vouchers are miserable rates.

I used to think that way as well but the overall experience sometimes matters a lot and can make a huge difference in setting the tone of the entire trip. As flying becomes more and more accessible unfortunately also increases the chances of flying with passengers who bring 1000 carry on bags occupying all the overhead bin space, push and shove, rude, unhygienic, keep walking down the aisle to "stretch legs", clogged toilets... basic respect and awareness of other human beings are at an all time low. And that's just the in-flight experience.

On ground, not having to deal with people who love to 'shove' forward/lack basic respect of personal space (during check in, immigration if have priority lane) has value. Having your bags come out first has value. Being treated with basic respect from airport/immigration staff has value. Of course, having lounge access has incredible value too depending on how you fly.

I took such a trip recently (all less than 3 hour flight segments) and was surprised at how enjoyable and stress-free the whole experience was - very different from the stress I usually expect that dampens my mood. Give it a chance, it feels especially good when its an low mileage award/"free" (mine was 35k for the entire thing).

People always say, once you try premium, you'll never go back to economy.. haha. Once black, never go back.

AA seats are bad...and anything longer than a couple of hrs is torture to my 6 foot frame....

Aax 330 seats are slightly better only....

Just did 8hrs BNE SIN on y and it was surprisingly comfortable....but it's a sunlight sq flight...

I think y long haul is still ok with the right airlines and aircrafts....

Btw, mods just deleted your posts in the maybank 2cp thread....

bah... let's just leave that thread alone and just post here lo. let others reply to that page. I guess they have more than enough people providing information in that thread. .

any idea how much YQ does SQ charge for EVA Air redemption using krisflyer? I know the points requirement is higher, but as points earning is no issue for me, i'd like to minimize paying cash outright when redeeming flight. Was abit shocked when i check two tickets to europe (inbound - Munich, outbound - Milan) and the fees and tax came up to about almost RM 5k for 2 pax..

This compared to the RM 1k i was charged for redeemping CX using EN miles. Surcharge is damm ouch.

I'm stuck on earning a portion of my points in KF due to MBB regulation on utilities payment.

Thank you for your support as a KrisFlyer member.

We conduct regular reviews to keep the KrisFlyer programme updated. Following a recent review, we will be making these changes:

Revisions to Saver Award levels in the Singapore Airlines and SilkAir Award Chart have been made to ensure that flight rewards remain sustainable yet competitive. We had last made adjustments to award levels in various zones in 2012.

The 15% discount for redemption and redemption upgrade bookings made through our website and mobile channels will be discontinued, and the same redemption fare will be applied across all channels.

Fuel and insurance surcharges will be removed from all redemption award tickets on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir operated flights.

The above changes and the revised Award Chart will be effective for redemption and redemption upgrade bookings ticketed on/after 23 March 2017.

I just got this email this morning... looks like no more 15% discount, upside is no more YQ on SQ flights. Yay. biggrin.gif
