Guys assuming that you have 500,000 Asia Miles expiring in 2021 and plan to travel with a family of 4, how would you best use these miles so that they give the most bang for buck? Business class travel only. Thanks sifus for all your valuable opinion.

Joke aside, I find Asia Miles OWMCA is the most valued awards, among all, given its flexibilities and number of stopovers allowed. So if you have 500k AM for 4 pax to travel, why not try 2 different carriers J class to Europe?

Sorry but I am new to AM...I noticed in their website that different carriers can be chosen but are the required miles the same? I am under the impression that AM works best for Cathay. Also, to arrange a layover for a couple of days in HK before moving on to Europe, we have to call them up as it is not possible to book online? Thanks!

If you want to book mixed carrier, call center agent is your only solution. Do pay attention to the multi carrier award T&Cs especially for the no. of airlines, stopovers and transfers allowed and etc.

can let me know if my comparison between ambank world master and citibank premier miles correct?

ambank worldmaster oversea spending
RM1 = 5 Ambonus
5000 Ambonus = 1000 Asiamiles
so RM1 spending is equal to 3 Asiamiles

citibank premiermiles oversea spending
RM2 = 2 premiermiles
1500 Ambonus = 1000 Asiamiles
so RM1 spending is equal to 1.333 Asiamiles

it looks like ambank world master is much better

Something is wrong with your mathematics but yes, Ambank WMC/VI gives you better mileage conversion value.

yup, you are correct. the info i typed is wrong doh.gif

ambank worldmaster oversea spending
RM1 = 5 Ambonus
5000 Ambonus = 1000 Asiamiles
so RM1 spending is equal to 1 Asiamiles

citibank premiermiles oversea spending
RM3 = 2 premiermiles
1500 Ambonus = 1000 Asiamiles
so RM1 spending is equal to 0.444 Asiamiles

now ambank got give extra 1% cash back and 30% more miles, really worth it rclxms.gif

No, point from cc point will not earn towards airline status, so no lounge access with economy

Spent two days finally finished scrolling from page 1 to page 59. Had a lot of valuable info from the informative input from the members here, you know who you are. You guys are really patient in answering some of the questions that have been asked repeatedly, and the replies given are short but straight to the point, which makes people like me who scrolled from page 1 having an easier time.

Anyway, here comes the question. I'll try to be as specific as possible, so bear with me for the longer post.

How should I accumulate miles (enrich, asia miles or kris flyer) in the fastest way?

I plan to redeem it for biz class seats to Europe (most likely London as it is the main gateway to Europe, but can go to Spain/France as well before going to London. Don't mind Economy seats for flights within Europe, but biz class for long haul) for me and my wife in 4-5 yrs time due to points expiry (i.e. drag till 3 yrs for maybank TP before convert to miles, which can drag for another 3 yrs)

Currently what I do to accumulate miles:

1. I have Maybank 2 cards Platinum, which the good thing is there's no annual fee, bad thing is the treat points conversion to Enrich/Asia Miles is 100% higher than Reserve. So for now whatever spendings that receive Amex, I'll try to charge it to the Amex to take advantage of the 5x points. And currently still not qualified yet to upgrade to Premier/Reserve, but even if I qualify, is it worth it with the hefty annual fee? Is it waivable? It would be hard to spend RM80,000 on it per year to have it waived, as Amex is not that widely accepted.

2. Cards I owned: Ambank Signature Visa (For PPL but seems like not useful anymore due to recent T&C update), Hong Leong Sutera (good for weekend spending for govt bills etc, share more below since I've not seen it being mentioned), Maybank 2 cards Platinum, and a few other basic cards not worth mentioning back in the days I got it when I just started working. Nowadays just leave it there as all of them are free for life. So just taking advantage of the credit limits of those cards.

3. Due to my low frequency of flying, earning miles through flying is not really feasible, plus mostly flying domestic with airasia or MH whichever cheaper and suits my time. So the miles has to come from credit cards and other places.

So what I've learned is that KF doesn't suit me since it is always on wait list and I couldn't really go for a 2-3 weeks holiday without few months of proper planning for my work, and Enrich has been devalued to the extent that it is quite useless, and AM delivers good value just need time on the phone for the booking on multiple carriers flight.

So hope all sifus can give some advice on what I should do to accelerate my miles accrual to redeem two biz class seats to Europe. Thanks in advance.

Note: So regarding the Hong Leong Sutera Platinum Card, their point rewards are not so good except for weekend spending which is x3, which applies to all spending. So normally I will use it to pay those quit rents, assessment, govt bills etc on a Saturday/Sunday since can pay by online and get x3 points. I think there isn't any cards out there that gives more points than this card for govt and utilities bills, insurance etc.

I would say around a comfortable RM15 - 20k with normal spending.

Some quick pointers:
1) 80K threshold applies to both the reserve and VI. Not per card.
2) miles can generally be accumulated thru (a) online shopping portal the give miles instead of cash back (b) conversion from hotel points © use hotel portals that give miles (d) buying miles to top up (e) fight to pay the bill at every single opportunity you can

With one of the best earning rate with 2card premier, for a 5 years duration, lets say if you spend 20k per year, 5 years you will have roughly 100k enrich/KF/Am miles, that is just barely enough for one return ticket to London with Asia miles, KF require more, same goes to enrich I think.

You won't be able to get enough points to redeem business class return to Europe within your time frame.
I've been using my Amex M2C for the past 3 years and my points are finally starting to expire next month and I've only accumulated 810+K TP which is almost 100k miles points. And that is with average annual spending of over RM50K per year.

The threshold for fee waiver is rm80k spent per annum. Thus you should aim to spend at least that much on your cards. If assuming roughly half spending on amex, half on visa, roughly should get 200k TP per year, that's about 40k+ miles. In 5 years or less you will get 200k miles.

thanks for the input guys... as expected, the miles i'm able to accumulate during this time frame is very tight. Probably just enough for one person. But well, have to keep trying.

Read from one of the post in this thread that someone got offer of buying 100k miles with cash advance offer, of which the interest would be offset by FD interest. Would be good if that can happen to me. Banks do offer me 0% interest cash advance from time to time which I would accept and just place in FD for free interest. But never before offered together with miles.

Is it still possible to use treat points to redeem Asia Miles? I can't see it on the latest online treat catalog anymore.
