I think the controllers are universal to any Wii regions :/ ..........

and the high prices I think are set by the shops themselves..... not Nintendo........

Apparently there is a way to use Freeloader on the Wii but its quite troublesome :/ .........

Nintendo should just make the console region free :/ ......... region locking for copy protection isn't really helping at all in the first place......

Plus making the console region free will help bring games into other countries faster.........

Hi there..... I could answer for question 1, 3, 4 and 5 (I'll combine answer 4 & 5 together).........

1. By optical output, I assume you mean for sound....... the Wii does not have an optical out on the unit itself and no known adapter is available for it yet.....

3. The Wii classic controller plugs in at the Wii Mote to work.

4 & 5. Yes you need the classic controller to play VC games but if you already have a GameCube controller, that will work as well. However the classic controller could not be used to play GC games but could be used to navigate the Wii menu. The GC controller couldn't be used to navigate the Wii menu. So I guess its better to get a GC controller (if you can find one) as you can use it to play VC and GC games, and leave your Wii Mote for the Wii menu browsing.
