Portfolio has been negative past 1.5 months, now only back to slight positive.

main credit to Am precious metal.......
but Am commodities doesnt follow suit, still in reds...
CIMB Global Titans also quite useless, lost 8.8%.

you are not alone.....my portfolio also dived for 1.5 months too...now starting to crawl back up abit.
I guess most investors would also be affected during this 40+ days... rolleyes.gif

Amprecious metal so volatile, from losing 15% to making 11%, do you think it's about time to sell and take profit?

hmm.gif looking at your chart.....
looks like your newly revised portfolio will have to perform HARD to achieve your targeted IRR of 7~8%
with 10 months to go, I think yr portfolio ROI need to increase by min 15% from now......
hmm.gif....looks likely to fail again..... doh.gif

time to plan for improvement in JULY?...coincide with promo again

a forummer "Vanguard 2015" once highlighted this overlapping called "Diworsification"
http://www.investopedia.com/terms/d/diworsification.asp
*
QUOTE
The process of adding investments to one's portfolio in such a way that the risk/return trade-off is worsened. Diworsification is investing in too many assets with similar correlations that will result in an averaging effect. It occurs where risk is at its lowest level and additional assets reduce potential portfolio returns, as well as the chances of outperforming a benchmark.

The term was coined by legendary investor Peter Lynch in his book, "One Up Wall Street," where he suggested that a business that diversifies too widely, risks destroying their original business, because management time, energy and resources are diverted from the original investment.
Very confusing explanation by Investopedia shakehead.gif
Aren't 'similar correlations' and 'too widely' opposite meaning?

Let me explain... one example of diworsification is:
Sime Darby, a plantation company, diversified into banking sector by establishing Sime Bank.
As some of you probably know, Sime Darby eventually sold off Sime Bank.

OTOH, investing in funds with similar correlations (e.g. two Asia Pac equity funds) is NOT necessarily a diworsification. The key is whether those investments drain your management time, energy and resources.

My port is starting to head northwards... Ponzi 2.0 is leading the charge. Titanic is lagging slightly, Small-cap which has surged ahead earlier is now resting and steady at the distance waiting for the two to catch up.

Ya, still riding. But don't follow me as I'll take profit only when it started to go down. Why, because you don't know when is the top. I don't know if this is the start of a new uptrend for gold, too earlier to tell. So stay nimble for now. You might want to take profit or exit now if that will make you feel more secure.

hmm.gif my uneducated guess,...
Malaysia EQ heavy
Asia Pac maybe can increase by another 5~10%
too much over lapping of funds in Malaysia EQ (this includes those from "Balanced" funds)
good diversification of fund houses..

calling lukenn....what say you?

Hi guys. Sorry for the late reply. Been busy. Just has a look at the list of funds, no time to do a full analysis. Maybe this weekend. Anyway, I'm thinking :
1. Has been very volatile.
2. Foreign exposure too high.
3. Fixed income too low.
4. Too many funds.
5. Foreign funds are probably highly correlated.
6. Local equity funds are probably highly correlated.

Thanks and looking forward to your detailed analysis when you have sometime. BTW, how do I know if funds are correlated? Thanks again.
