There was a lot of hype about 3D printers recently. More and more 3D printer companies are coming out with their very own FDM 3D printers and aims to put a 3D printer in every home — including yours. But is it really possible?
3D printers used to cost thousands of dollars, and recently they've come down a lot in price. There is a wide range of desktop 3D printer available in the market ranging approximately from US$588 (Buccaneer) to US$6,499 (Makerbot Z18 ). For most 3D printing enthusiast, I believe we are looking for a 3D printer that is reliable a.k.a "Plug & Play" and such printers would usually cost up to more than US$1000 which is still rather expensive for most households.
For 3D printing enthusiast that do not own a 3D printer, they would usually source for 3D printing service provider to get their models/ design printed. Zelta3D Malaysia, 3D Printing Malaysia and similar websites allow buyers to upload their own models/ designs online and these 3D printing service providers will use their 3D printers to print your models/ designs and mail it to you at a certain fee. For a start, I would say this is definitely more cost effective and convenient than buying your own 3D printer.
What do you think?
Will 3D Printers be worth buying for home use or would you rather opt for 3D Printing Service?
