The Strathclyde MBA program has better quality program participants. That's a fact and if ure well versed with MBA programs, the quality of the students is a very important factor.

Ask those in the working industry in UK and they will tell u that Strathclyde is more recognised than Lancaster for their MBA programs.

*
How do u know strathclyde MBA students are higher quality than Lancaster? While both are relatively easy to enter, In fact Lancaster have slightly more stringent entry req.

Yr second statement is again another sweeping statement. Is there an evidence to prove it? Or maybe yr colleagues are based in Scotland hence know strathclyde better than lancaster? I have colleagues in London n I have meetings very often with them. To most londoners colleagues, lbs, insead or iese are the famous ones. I think Those rank above 50 in ft, eg Strathclyde or Lancaster n the likes are all in the same category, nobody really cares which is better.

But ultimately, no matter which MBA u take. A person career success mainly lies on his/her attitude . Paper qualification is just a minor catalyst.

U are comparing Strathclyde / Lancaster with INSEAD and the likes? Common my friend. Do an apple to apple comparison. Are u even reading my posts above? I already said Strath / Lan dont come close to the Ivy LEague MBA programs. Lets be logical here.

Paper qualification is secondary i agree but in MBA programs and many other post grad programs, the quality of that paper has a major impact on career progression. U come out into the world with an INSEAD MBA and u get instant recognition which in turns opens doors. Its then up to the individual to decide and work through these doors. Try doing that with a Strathclyde / Lancaster MBA. The number of doors it opens are far less. Thats why there are sooo many ppl today with MBA's who just have a piece of paper and 3 letters next to their name with limited benefit career wise.

And that is a FACT.

I think you need to read and understand what i mentioned. Earlier u mentioned "Ask those in the working industry in UK and they will tell u that Strathclyde is more recognised than Lancaster for their MBA programs. "

I asked for evidence on your statement above. I mentioned "Those rank above 50 in ft, eg Strathclyde or Lancaster n the likes are all in the same category, nobody really cares which is better." Is Insead ranked above 50 in ft? What makes you think that i am comparing Lancaster/strathclyde with insead? I have already mentioned LBS, iese and insead are the good uni londoners know. If ask them to compare strathclyde with lancaster which is better... nobody really cares coz they are same category (above 50 in ft).

Secondly, u mentioned "Strathclyde MBA program has better quality program participants"
How do u know strathclyde MBA students are higher quality than Lancaster? While both are relatively easy to enter, In fact Lancaster have slightly more stringent entry req.

Whilst its good to have high aspirations to join insead, It is not appropriate to simply pass a judgement without quoting a reliable source, be it academic or corporate world.

Hmm, if that's really the case I guess Strathclyde @ CDC will be a beneficiary then, since it's the next best in line based on rankings, placed before Monash, Nottingham and Sydney U @ Inti. Did I miss out any?

I'm not in the market for an MBA yet, but planning my available choices at the moment, although the landscape should change a couple of years later with new players coming in.

Rankings aside, in you opinion which are the premier ones that attracts the local MNC and IB crowd?

Only two MBA offered in Malaysia is in world top 100 - Strathclyde and Lancaster, which is ranked 50th in the latest 2015 FT ranking.

Could you provide the link to show the MBA ranking for THE and QS? These are the popular university rankings provider but I am not sure if they they provide the rankings for MBA globally as I am keen to know the criteria they used.

QS for example only ranked MBA schools by region and not globally, and their criteria seems only focus at GMAT score OR average years work OR tuition fees which i felt irrelevant to compare with. Maybe i am looking at the wrong link hence would be great if you could share the link.
Times Higher Education (THE) does not ranked university by MBA too, but only in general. Again i may not be looking at the right url link.

So far, the most reliable and consistent MBA ranking source provider i see so far is the Financial times.
Nottingham MBA was ranked 100th in FT during 2009 with an average 3 years as 90th position. As FT only displays the top 100, it could be a reason that Nottingham had dropped out from the top 100 list after 2009.
No idea on Monash ranking though.

Agree ranking alone cant provide the full story but by looking at its criteria and scores of the criteria it may help a person to do a better judgement.

I didnt come to any conclusion. Its a fact. The Lancaster MBA progam here in Malaysia is not triple accredited. Only the business school in UK is.

Feel free to check with:

Prof. Brian C. Imrie
Associate Dean (Postgraduate Studies)
Head- Department of Marketing
Sunway University Business School
SUNWAY UNIVERSITY

From the preview, I heard the content, textbook, lecturer and even the marking of assignment is appointed from Lancaster. Sunway just provide the environment/facilities. So if the program in Lancaster is accredited, I dont see the one in Malaysia is not accredited?

Unless you talk about the library and resources in Lancaster is much better than Sunway or the lecturer from UK cannot teach well in Malaysia due to jet lag/ hot weather hence its different. Else, how can it be not following the one in UK?

Hi guys, I have been closely following the discussions here. I am 27 years old this year, graduated with a degree in civil engineering, worked as a site-based project engineer for a year, then went on to help with my family business for a year. Taking an MBA has always been something I wanted to do back then because of my interest.

If I pursue a MBA, it would be because I want to equip myself with more business knowledge with regards to finance, marketing, management, accounting, etc (in addition to my day-to-day experience), and not because I want to climb corporate ladder or anything like that. I do not necessarily place importance in the accreditation by international business school accrediting bodies (though I understand recognition to a certain extent tells about the program's quality). I am also not necessarily looking for the best/higher ranking whatsoever because as many experts here have pointed out, the effectiveness of an MBA at the end of the day depends on oneself. Funding, mode of study comes secondary to me if we're talking about points of consideration.

Many of you here have more experience and know more than I do, hence my questions: should I work for another year or two? On average, universities that I've looked at (Monash, Nottingham, UPM, Heriot Watt, Sunway, Help, etc) need at least 2 to 3 years of managerial experience. Is there any particular business schools which you guys would recommend I look into?

Thank you.

Depends on what you want .. If it's just a certificate that you want, then u can enrol any uni for MBA certification . MBA will not teach you too much on the basics as that will be degree in business . It is a compressed course learning managerial skills in managing the people n business in various aspects . You are required to contribute , share experience n reflect your working experience. If you don't have enough corporate exposure , your learning n appreciation of the subjects taught will be limited n the ability of you in completing the assignment will not be fulfilling n well done.

I suggest at least 5 years n then get a proper MBA . It's not just the money but more importantly your time committed to these 2 years journey so make the most out of it!

I took mine after 10 years and I have seen those even in the 5 years working struggling to understand or appreciate what the lecturers is talking...
