i enrolled for USQ's MBA program at SEGI Kota Damansara. Intake starts 18th July...anybody taking MBA in SEGI and starting this 18th July?

anyways, i've checked with SEGI and it seems this sem as of now, only got 1-2 fresh grads. i dunno if it's a good or bad thing?

my colleague is going through a very bad experience in his MBA now. according to him, the ppl with more working experience tends to be abit stuck up and putting on the "know-it-all" attitude. for example: they are less open to other group members ideas because they think that they have more experience therefore, they are always right. i'm not against them for knowing more, coz in the end of the day they do have more experience and i'm more than happy to learn. but i guess it's just how they communicate. hence i believe interpersonal/soft skills are equally important. something you cannot learn from class...

so if anyone is starting class this 18th july, gimme a holla!

It does provides me with a broad knowledge and the intelectual with the others field of working adults(different industry). This is the most important as you don't wish to has a class lecture with those fresh grads that lack of experience. It is advisable to select experience student for your group discussion or assignment.

@Jessica
I choose general management instead specialisation. IMHO, i would not suggest MBA student to choose specialisation as the mean for a MBA course is to equip you with a well grounded with different field of interest for your future career. The specialisation offer by MBA is really a misleading student which does not really compete with others specialisation course. Ex; if you specialised in MBA marketing, you are no where that able to compete with a CIM grad student. If you specialised in MBA project management, you are no where compete with a PMP graduates, if you are a MBA finance specialised, you are also no where compete with a CFP graduates.

In short, MBA is not main for specialisation, its main purpose to equip student with various of field expertise such like HR, finance, marketing,  accounting, information system, law, and economics.

I beg to differ. If u look at the specialization it is just 4 elective subjects. It is no different from the general management because u will be choosing 4 electives from the various specializations as well. Unless ur talking abt other MBA's offered else where.

As far as USQ's MBA is concern, the core 8 subjects are the same, just 4 elective subjects.

If you are MBA marketing specialisation, you will only choose all the 4 elective subject offer under marketing subject. If you are taking general management, you will be able to choose the total 4 various elective from finance, marketing, IB, HR, and projects. This will equip you with well grounded knowledge in different field pursuing later of your career in management level.

If you proactive enough, compare MBA marketing specialisation subject(4 subjects) offer with a professional marketing CIM course(12 subjects) offer subjects.

BEsides, get more consultation from your senior, lecturer or your professor for a convince advise what the purpose MBA serve you a better tools. This marketing fella that convince you to enrol a MBA course is useless which i found it later of myself.

if taking 4 subjects from one specialization is not gonna equip you with enough knowledge in that specialization, what makes you think taking ONE subject from 4 specialization is gonna make you better equip in those 4? smile.gif

it's like the saying, jack of all trades master of none.

you need to understand that the specializations are just elective subjects. at the end of the day, it is an MBA so the core 8 subjects are what matters most. this is not Masters in Marketing, or Masters in Finance, or HR, or IB.

at the end of the day, there's no right/wrong useful/useless specialization or course that you choose to study. what is useless for you may not be for others. as long as you know what you want and what you wanna achieve.

choose whichever specialization that you want, there's nothing wrong with it. i'm not saying that General Management is not good as i wanted to choose this in the first place as well. the reason why i didn't go with general management is because not all subjects are thought on campus. for example, finance is via distance learning, IB is via distance learning hence i choose Marketing because its on campus.

i certainly agree that taking various subjects from different specializations is a good choice, but the way you're saying that General Management IS the only right choice is somewhat ignorant.

Hi! sorry for so so late reply... after first two days no one replied, i seldom check the forum and lately got super busy with my projects.
*
hey buddy, no worries!

but unfortunately i won't be taking up the USQ MBA program as i'm going for a better MBA program at Malaysian Institute of Management. it's an Executive MBA program from RMIT and has a 4 star rating from GMAA as opposed to USQ's 2 star. (http://www.gmaa.asn.au/star_rating.cfm)

the only downside is that, i need at least 1 more year of working experience before i can apply for it.

goodluck and keep us updated on the USQ MBA program.

p/s: i wonder if the RM300 is refundable? tongue.gif

Deadline for SEGi is 10th July....

Does star ratings really important to decide which university to take the MBA from?
*
the star rating only applies to australian based uni MBA's under GMAA. if you can get into one which has higher stars, why not? smile.gif you have nothing to lose but everything to gain.

same amount of time spent, but price may differ slightly. so why not go for something of better quality right?

Wow, so many discussions after not logging in for sometimes. I have already enrolled in USQ MBA 2 weeks back, going for the KL branch as it's nearer for me. Going for its orientation in 19th.

Anyone going for USQ MBA in KL branch?

Good luck to you red-queen, hope that you won't change your mind of doing MBA by then. smile.gif In fact, there's also other MBA schools better than RMIT... wink.gif

All the best to you and everyone intending to do MBA!
*
yewps, there's definitely better Australian MBA schools than RMIT. too bad in Malaysia, our choices are limited. i'm still praying hard hopefully to get a job in aussie land then i can work there and attend a good MBA school like Deakin.

No. SEGi stopped intake for USQ. There wont be any anymore. Reason being, SEGi has its own MBA now and want to encourage ppl to take it.
*
ohhh...meaning July intake will be the last of USQ MBA.

ok thanks for the info!
