QUOTE(Xai-V-iaX @ Oct 31 2009, 10:17 PM) Here in Malaysia, higher education is considerably 'skin' based within the goverment instituition....get an post-graduate certification from an foreign recognised instituition...it'll do more good to your future career than harm...trust ME.... agree totally get a oversea paper will be better |

well.. you have a first degree which is a good thing,if possible maybe you can let us know what major is your first degree.
i did my my mba around late 27 also, i did it for few reasons which is long story ... anyway u need to understand good quality MBA will require substantial effort and your time, u need to evaluate your commitment to your job, i told my frens and and relative the same thing over and over again, mba course is like a marathon, not a sprint.. the 2 year commitment, in between a lot can happen. i went through twice, mine and my wife MBA, fetching her to school for the 2 years period and siiting in the class with her sometime..when she too tire, so i take note for her. i have classmate did not make it in the end, not because there not smart nor hardworking enough, is just changes in career, financial and family matter, the class shrink half in size by the time we grad. during my time i shortlisted cdc Strathclyde MBA is the best being triple accredited, MBS from sunway just started i think, but at 100k no way I can ROI on it in Malaysia payscale and in my indsutry. i think you know this already, since you already research, will input further later i did not grad from the above institute, but it turn out alright on my option. |

my 2 cent continue.. leaving the ranking of university aside first (mine mba is from uk top 10, from the bottom) hehe
before you put your hard earn money, most probable u might be withdrawing from your epf and such.. (you might be streching your resource) money and time, your gf might scream when u cannot accompany her in most of the weekend. u be spending a lot lot time on meeting assignment deadline. then maybe oneday u will ask, do u really need a mba (bang too late)? paying money to suffer "my classmate term it" all these cons is quite negative "i know" but i share the pro with u later, so u need to confirm u need a mba. then we discuss school u know most of the private college share the same lecturer (freelancer), my lecturer last time also teach at the tripple accredited mba insitute (concurrently). my thesis supervisor is a fellow researcher (ex-dean)in our national uni. Added on June 9, 2011, 3:10 pmour message got cross.. so u in IT line, some college let u sit in their class to get a feel of the teaching, hahah .. some school is good but got lousy lecturer, some lousy school have good lecturer, my experiance a lousy uni (low ranking), fantastic school (supportive staff) with some good lecturer. lenient on assignment deadline. on the lecturer (which u cannot control)i beleive u can learn the most when u have a good mix of them the real academic fella, the retire and the current one who is still in the corporate world. disclaimer, my 2 cent only, sometime i look at the school website of certain uni, i look at the lecturer profile and wonder if these fella who is a master / phd holder but do not have working experiance in the real world outside.. i wonder what he can offer(teach)me, the fella could be just reading from the text book This post has been edited by ivanswk: Jun 9 2011, 03:10 PM |

remember it was in my consideration as well long time ago, and think is not cheap, since paying in pound or usd, beside not only missing the triple accreditation, the ranking also not fantastic
http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/worl...011/europe.html also no mqa/jpa anyway i also dun mind no ranking no accreditation, no mqa but no classroom with lecturer hmm .. abit tough This post has been edited by ivanswk: Jul 4 2011, 11:02 PM |

QUOTE(blade14 @ Jul 15 2011, 03:15 AM) Hi, if can do a degree firstloh, I've been reading many of the comments here and frankly it has really opened my eyes about a lot of the things. I've a few questions and hoping to get some good advice from all of you. I've worked 2 yrs in an admin capacity and i currently have 2 yrs exp in a customer service/technical/helpdesk position. Can I pursue an MBA since i only have a diploma in business admin? Will i face problems in career advancement later like promotion, etc if i don't have a degree? Does an MBA help me to further in my current company or should one work in a more management/banking/finance oriented environment that the MBA will add more weight in the future? most college also accept dip, but maybe need more working experiance the MBA dun guarantee anything, my mba classmate sell toilet bowl, after grad still sell toilet bowl |

u will pay alot of money and if lucky u get a piece of paper to hang at the wall, the failure rate is high, even u suceed to grad, u might still be taking telephone call. my experiance with my 20 plus classmate some
still stuck with their old co no promotion no raise. u paying on your own ? your blood and sweat money, then drag your feet to school, spending your resting time, fight the traffic and see some fella reading from text book. have u exhausted other option available, think hard, very hard |

QUOTE(blade14 @ Jul 16 2011, 02:55 AM) ivanswk, u have a point there. I've also heard abt these kind of stories and yes i would be paying by my own. This is why i can't afford to make a wrong choice. get a sponsor, other people money What field are you working in, did the MBA improve your career? What option would u suggest? yah it improve my career, first my mba is sponsor, the mba i did is RM30k, my annual package if average monthly out will be more than that so when people tell u only do MBA from ivy league or top ten uni in the world and gettiing into detail of ROI, tell them to fly kite small got small play, big got big play, we not going to wall street Added on July 21, 2011, 9:36 am QUOTE(patryn33 @ Jul 21 2011, 12:40 AM) which Uni did they do their MBA? Uni East London, yah i agree Harvard? every mth U find a new Uni offering MBA. not all MBA is made the same. other candidate pls SWOT anal yourself, how many 10 years do u have, can u afford Ivy League? if u can, good luck This post has been edited by ivanswk: Jul 21 2011, 09:36 AM |

QUOTE(darrenboy @ Jul 23 2011, 10:41 AM) I prefer research degree. Not course work type. I know with a research degree I can help other people. So, that's why I am thinking of taking a research degree. I hope to be able to research on a topic that has a potential to make an impact of positive change in either the commercial or business practices/laws or indirectly on the lives of individuals. With a masters degree, I can be a part-time lecturer if my factory not doing well in future, touch wood.... Or, if I am tired of business/corporate world, I can switch to the academic industry and be a lecturer. Without a masters degree, most universities will not hire you as lecturer. research degree ? for example ? Why can't Forum Lowyat separate the undergrad topics from the Masters topics? I think you have a separate one for PhD topics but not Masters. wat topic u looking at ? |
