QUOTE(vertigofoo @ Jul 10 2008, 10:51 AM) Vertigo - care to update us on what your plan is now.. Im going along a similiar route. Folks, Other than Manchester is there any other program with emphasis on Engineering ? Is it the still the best ranked in Malaysia. Cost no issue as I can get a corporate sponsorship. I'm also considering programs in SG, but with 7 yrs experience, I dont qualify yet for the ivy league EMBA's. Plus those have a lot of out of town travel which Im afraid will conflict with work schedules..

Indeed the UK MBA's are faster. I noticed this too. But getting into the program will be just as competitive compared to a US based program as they have many international applicants.
Let us know where you plan to go Mavric.

Most of the programs in the UK seem to require a dissertation/project work. Manchester/Nottingham/Strathcylde.
This is one of the things thats really put me off... Was very keen for the Manchester program, but I really dont have the time for prolonged thesis work.
Anyother programmes of the above caliber - minus the thesis. I guess, there are no Executive MBA programs in Malaysia ?

Go get a job first... the MBA is useless without practical world knowledge. Anyone hiring you will know that...
if you have no choice and are academicly inclined - do a technical masters.

Anyone doing an EMBA thats modular - come in for a class say 6-8 x 2 weeks or so ? I prefer programs in Singapore. I know of those like Chicago Booth, Nanyang Tech APEX,NUS UCLA etc but these have a venue/country that keeps changing. I want a fixed location.

QUOTE(patryn33 @ Jul 30 2009, 10:22 PM) the class location kept changing? All the long I still thought its held on their campus ground in the same country. then again, if U can get into Chicago EMBA program shouldn't have problem meeting their crazy location. IIRC many students are VP or Director level. For the chicago program - classes in Chicago/Sg/london same as Insead Fountainbleu/SG. Liekwise for the UCLA/NUS - Bangalore/UCLA/NUS. The Nanyang/APEX is also south east asia based. Some of the other EMBA's (like SMU) have weekday/weekend classes which I cant make. Many EMBA's go this path. Due to work committments the most I can travel to is SG. This post has been edited by RJdio: Jul 31 2009, 09:24 AM

If you really want an MBA to learn, move up your career, build a network - then work to get into a premium program. You will pay USD80 - 100K for it, it will be really challenging to get in, but the payback will be many multiples. Those programs in Malaysia are generally good for some local network, but if you really want to get ahead consider one in Singapore like INSEAD or NUS.
