QUOTE(willy_wonka @ Jan 28 2010, 08:36 PM) hahaha....u sound like an auditor ...got to have a minimum number of students though..... http://www.ibbm.org.my/files/KR_IC_col.aspxi bought a set of photocopied schweser notes (i think there were 6 books) and read them cover-to-cover like 3 times and made sure i understood everything. there can be no doubts cos the MCQs were very tricky. u need to know your stuff inside out. wah, u so look me up ah??? no la, 1 level per year ......what i meant was that i cramped the entire year's syllabus in 2/3 weeks and went for the exam Thanks for sharing! I'm hesitating if to take CFA or not 'cos my master program commence in July this year.... Ya, if you would tell me you did all 3 papers in 1 year, I would believe, too, why not?

QUOTE(willy_wonka @ Jan 28 2010, 11:34 PM) you intend to do the mba programme at Help issit? whether to do the mba or cfa depends a lot on what u intend to do in the longer term. i'd say the cfa is technical, rigorous and perhaps more prestigious (good if you wanna be an analyst/fund management etc). on the other hand, the mba (finance) is certainly more practical and versatile. it gives u a general education in management with emphasis on finance and builds up your network of like-minded mba peers....so u got to weigh it......the cost too....the cfa programme is really very affordable. oh, btw, cfa malaysia is doing a preview lecture by stalla on 2 Feb....http://www.cfamalaysia.org/default.aspx you might wanna drop by to get a flavour of the cfa. wah, i so convincing ah? its not possible. L1 (2 exams per year), L2 & L3 (1 exam per year). So, the fastest you can pass the programme is 2.5 years. Ya, I would want to drop by for the preview. Thanks for the info.

ACCA and CFA are 2 different designations.
ACCA is for accounts; CFA is for financial analysis.

QUOTE(willy_wonka @ Jan 29 2010, 10:06 AM) cfa is highly specialised and most useful if u wanna be an investment analyst/portfolio manager. if i were in your shoes, between acca and cfa, i'll go for acca. its not a matter of recognition, its just that most companies do not require or can afford a cfa charterholder whereas almost every decent company out there requires an accountant. if after a few years u wanna do financial analysis, its not a problem even though u don't have a cfa......financial accountants, especially those with industry experience, make damn good investment analysts! Then how come you didn't have ACCA to begin with?

QUOTE(willy_wonka @ Jan 29 2010, 11:00 AM) young and naive then. didn't want to spend a few years doing audit i.e. short-sighted. it was a struggle in the beginning not having done the acca/icaew but after sometime, i learned on the job and made up the bulk (not all) of that knowledge gap. no longer an issue for what i do today debbie, what's your professional background like? I'm from PR line.

QUOTE(willy_wonka @ Jan 29 2010, 11:14 AM) oh wow, u berry versatile! u'll probably do well in IB/PB then considering your pr background and keen interest in finance Somehow too versatile is not good. I hope to become a PR in a bank but 'cos I don't have necessary finance knowledge, ya... I'm just eligible to be a PR to any industry but not Finance.

Base on the course outline, I think CFA is more on technical theory of Finance, not so much about Accounts. This post has been edited by debbieyss: Jan 29 2010, 12:27 PM

Anyway, I am doing CCP and there's nothing about accounting, mainly economics and finance theory.
But I have never taken CFA, not sure how much topics relevant to accounting, so I'm still open for discussion; However, even if CFA consists of heavy accounting, firstly CFA accepts members from non-accounting background so there shouldn't be any possible reason that a member can't handle the exam, secondly, I don't think I can't cope with it if I'm willing to learn from beginning.

QUOTE(willy_wonka @ Jan 30 2010, 04:30 PM) yes, really, especially those with a penchant for second hand books and a generous heart! Added on January 30, 2010, 5:26 pmaccounting is essential but its only part of the cfa syllabus.....there are other equally - if not more - important aspects of finance/investment analysis, such as ethics, economics, equities, fixed income, derivatives, portfolio management......these subjects have little to do with accounting...... Ya.. that's what I mean. CFA or CCP have much less to do with Accounting, according to the syllabus, else they won't be accepting candidates from non-accounting background to enroll. Data analysis has much to do with some format and formula, that's only a brief and fundamental skill to be covered in these programs. Also, if there's a will, there is a way to complete the course. But Zennix is very cute, she said I might get confused so she explained a whole paragraph to me but at the end of the explanation, she asked you if she has got her say correctly.. QUOTE(luigee @ May 6 2010, 09:38 AM) MBS is probably the best offered in Malaysia. According to global MBA rankings as at 2010 it is ranked 40th. But it is the most expensive as well. Close to RM80k for the whole programme (that's the old figure I know of). http://rankings.ft.com/businessschoolranki...al-mba-rankingsBesides, MBS is also listed as one of the schools in the MBA Provision for the UK Highly Skilled Migrant Programme. http://www.skillclear.co.uk/hsmp-mba-provision.aspThe finance degree offered in Sunway Monash in collaboration with the University of Lancaster with credit exemptions for ACCA is quite an attractive prospect as well. It's only a matter of time before they have their MBA programme on our shores. And their management school is ranked 24th. The latest tuition fee as per current July 2010 intake is total 17, 200GBP (after discount for first 2 semester), equal to RM84,000.
