Hi everyone, just got my XBOX360 today. Was kinda excited initially, but when I reach home and was trying to set it up, I can feel like there are some plastic thing moving in my Xbox360 when I carry it. give it a little shake, or every time when I switch it from the horizontal to vertical position or vice versa. I think it is plastic coz it sounds plasticky. The sounds come from some where near the hard disk, or below the hard disk area.

By the vibration that it is giving me and from its sound, I think it is something small.

I am really not sure whether this is normal or I have some loose compartment in my XBOX. This really worries me. I hope the you guys could help me figure it out.

Thanks inadvance.

p.s. Mine is an unmodded set.

It is not plastic , it is the ballbearing switch the console use to identify which position your 360 is, whether vertical or horizontal.

yeawp..u can do a little test to see the effect of that ballbearing...of course u do this when u got no disc inside la...just flip it from horizontal to vertical(vise versa) and u get to see the green ROL move the first player light to follow ur 360s position biggrin.gif

I see, thanks brother stringfellow for solving my ambiguities, since it is a ball bearing then every xbox360 will have the same thing moving in it and produces the same sound? So I wouldnt need to worry anything about it right?

well actually if you're unlucky, it may even do more damage than just scratching the disc..it could also cause your cd to crack and tiny tiny bits of debris resulting from the scratching may cause your drive/whole console to die in the long run.

as a matter of fact it's already written in the manual, warning you about the bearing that detects the console's position and the scratching issues. and IINM when u buy the set, the sticker on the disc drive also warns the same thing.

good thing i saw the 'scratching demo' on youtube once...victim was quake 4. laugh.gif the game must've sucked so badly to deserve that punishment. smile.gif

I think it was mentioned during the early purchasers of the 360, on how MS determined which position your machine is lying on, to coincide with the rings. Cant remember, that was like a year ago......and exactly a year a go, i had my own 3ROD....nasib baik HDD only. sweat.gif

because many think that the 360 is doing something what the ps2 did; can stand vertical or horizontal and that's it. what they didn't know is tht MS is known for doing things better.

just think about it. a simple ball bearing detector and although does little, the subtle technology makes ur x360 seem more 'interactive' and living.

oh how i love MS. rclxms.gif

and how i love 360voice.com. oops OT alredi. laugh.gif

does it affect any difference in terms of performance and life span of the xbox putting it on vertical or horizontal position?

yea. putting it in vertical position will give you 100x better graphics. laugh.gif laugh.gif just kidding!

it depends aegis. to me i personally prefer horizontal cos i'd get better airflow. i elevate it slighty using anti-skid pads so tht i get airflow on the bottom (where the mobo is) and also airflow from the right side of the box (bottom side if in vertical) to help purge hot air to the back.

most people put it on vertical cos it looks cooler, but hey whatever makes u happy. just remember to put the console on a stable place, or somewhere that the x360 couldn't topple easily when putting in vertical. smile.gif

Putting it on horizontal may affect the lifespan of your 360 since it should allow better airflow(less overheating) and so you may not get the 3 ROD problem.

a very nice way to put it. yes, it may be the best way to prevent overheating but still, if u put it on horizontal and still put it in confined places with improper airflow, its as good as a solar powered torchlight.

for me, so far, so good in horizontal. plus i can put in a usb powered fan directed to the air vents as a helping hand. smile.gif but still no guarantees for other people~

Either Manufacturer Faulty, or Update Bugs.

If an update pops up for your X360 check out the forums to see if anyone complained about the 360 getting busted after the update. Gives you time to think about continuing the update or skipping it(though you won't be able to go to Live.

I used to put mine vertical, but that was due to space constraint on the area where i wanna place the console. Now it's breathing fresher air on wider open space. Affect performance or lifespan? It works the same whether it was place vertical or horizontal, so i've no idea if they affect anything.

I am placing mine vertically, with a stand fan blowing air directly infront of it (set fan speed to 1). laugh.gif coz I dont have much place left on my table. Hope the lifespan is the same between horizontal and vertical sweat.gif
