I dont think being a Mac has much to do with the slow speed, if there's anything it should be connection, and the amount of ppl using at the same time. School holidays probably jam up the lines..

It's not a Mac-only phenomenon. Streamyx has been shaping BitTorrent traffic for a while. I'm assuming you're connected using Streamyx - look here and see if you can glean anything from the threads regarding BT shaping.

I have not personally tried this but .... Azureus with encryption? That could work. Will prolly let you know when I get back to Malaysia.

Don't think Azureus' encryption gets past whatever Streamyx is using to shape traffic. There are a number of detailed discussions regarding the issue in the Broadband User 2 User subforum, but it doesn't seem as if there's a real fix to the problem. Supposedly TMnet will stop the BT shaping as new servers are added in. Supposedly.

bt slow down is platform agnostic, but my housemate dl chinese serial can get 40++ while i dl english serial lucky to c 20 once in a while sad.gif

i think it has to do with peers as well, but what windows client can do, mac clients can do as well, set proxy, do tunnelling, etc.

Amd, nah... encryption didnt work... thanks tho...

yeti.. the threads basically had tonnes of disgruntled streamyx users givin their 2 cents worth... no real solutions thr...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------||-------
i guess ultimately, this is well n truly beyond what any streamyx users can do... if u google "tmnet bandwidth throttling", u will find articles abroad tat says how ridiculous tm is...

this my friends is due to absolute monopoly... the dickweeds at TM r juz bullyin their way cause they know if 1000 ppl go in and cancel their service, another 1000 will come in almost immediately...

i've been on a billing dispute with TM since 7 mths ago!... it's juz stupid how their protocol is... i was appalled wit the fact tat they will charge u if they bar your service. which is absolutely ridiculous! how can they do that completely baffles me... and having friggin puppets workin at the help desk & email centers serves zero purpose...

i mean what is the point of havin all this new color schemes and shit when it's all juz cosmetic... only skin deep... the friggin "geniouses" tat sits behind counters, sit at the end of the phone only always tell u... it's policy this, it's policy that... well... i told them, it's my policy not to pay for something i didnt use... and it's my policy that your policy no longer applies when you DIDNT inform me in the first place that you will charge me when u bar my service... if you did, then i will pay... but i didnt... not written on my original contract, hence i dont give a rats ass what they say abt "You must pay cause it's written here in OUR new policy"...

yea... my policy is here u go... have a middle finger... it's my policy wankers like tat get one...

so i told them i am not paying a single cent of the amt they charged me when they barred my service... it's not the matter of the couple of ringgit... it's abt principle...

oh ya... if i cud, i'd already change providers... unfortunately, i've only tm in my area!...

frm the way i see it, we'll just hv to:

a. wait for some miraculous arrival of another broadband provider in the coming couple of weeks.
b. wait for some son/daughter of some really big shot to run n complain to daddy/mommy how he/she can no longer d/l anything.. and hope daddy/mommy can do something to turn the situation around... unfortunately, this is even a bigger miracle!... hahha...

neeways, i do hope the powers tat be do something abt this big sluggish company tat's just playon consumers for a fool... in what developed country u get companies that say u pay for 2MB service, you'll be lucky to get 512MB... hahah...

sorry all for this lengthy crap.. juz am totally cheesed off by these farkin licensed con men...

Well, Streamyx did lift the BitTorrent traffic for a little while. It has since been reinstated. I'd suggest you resort to other means to obtain whatever it is that you're downloading. I'm just now discovering the wonders of IRC XDCC for downloads.

i'm using SHH tunneling to get pass tmnet throttling on my Macs. they work the same no matter you're on a PC or Mac.

yes, xdcc didnt throttle... i use Conversation 2.14 on my G4 PowerMac as my irc software and connect to specific network and boom! i got 80k/s connection on my lame TMnut Streamyx line... smile.gif (sometimes get higher though, min usually at 32k/s)..

i used to torrent stuff before... but i was so frusturated with the connection ( due to streamyx)..

xdcc is easy to use, how? go google... google is the best thing that man ever created smile.gif

XDCC and direct downloads are the way to go. You shouldn't have any problems with the iPod Software Updater.. If it's downloading too slowly, just make sure that you're connected with an IP address that starts with 218. 60.* are crappy.
