Been reading Google Reviews about open burning taking place every day near BSC. Can any current residents attest to this?

So far no specific areas mentioned. You can read Google Reviews.

My relatives and I did notice a smokey smell when visiting a unit at Hemmingway a few months ago, which made me wonder whether these claims were true, and more importantly, whether they were as regular as some of the reviews have claimed.

Here are some other reviews. What's odd is that these reviews seem to have all been written on the same day/around the same day (2 weeks ago).

Reported by the star couple days back. As a resident for almost 5 years, yes sometimes we do get the burning smell but it’s not as frequent as mentioned in the reviews.

And if you drive along the road from the main entrance to LATAR, you’ll see those illegal dump site mentioned in the report above.

Hope this news article goes further to put an end to this.

Anyway, it explains why residents of Hemmingway/Hampton/Senna may be less affected; it happens around Jalan Kuala Selangor, which is located a fair distance away from those residences.

For those not subscribed to The Star, here's what the news article says:

QUOTE
RESIDENTS are frustrated with the lack of action against several illegal dumpsites which have been operating for over two years along Jalan Kuala Selangor in Bandar Seri Coalfields, Sungai Buloh.

A local residents’ association representative said these illegal operations, which were located less than 1km away from homes, had been up and running since he moved in two years ago.

“Every night, residents have to deal with the foul odour of burning plastic and other strong smells which pollute the air,” he said.

“There are a few sites possibly operated by different syndicates,” he said, adding that each site often had large hoardings to hide their illegal activities.

Excavators, bulldozers and lorries dumping rubbish at the sites were also common.

Another resident said that the dumpsites had attracted a large number of pests such as rodents and flies to the area.

She also said residents had to keep their doors and windows shut most of the time to keep foul smells from coming into their homes.

“Most of the rubbish seems to be construction waste,” she said.

Despite repeated complaints by several residents to the Kuala Selangor District Council (MDKS), little has been done to stop the illegal activities.

MDKS Health and Environment Department director Jefriee Manaf said it had issued at least five notices for public nuisance under Section 82(5) of the Local Government Act 1976.

“Seven compounds were issued until June this year, while four lorries were seized.

“Last year, a total of 46 compounds were issued and 11 lorries were also seized from the dumpsites,” he said.

However, the action taken had done little to deter the syndicates operating at these dumpsites.

Jefriee also said the issue was out of the council’s jurisdiction and should be handled by the Kuala Selangor District and Land Office.

He assured that the department would be organising a meeting with all relevant authorities to resolve the matter.

Look what I just found. Wasn't surprised as I have seen so many corners cut. Well, at least they used Mega Cable. Can't imagine what will happen to Hampton  biggrin.gif
