China’s Military Intelligence System is Changing

user posted image

QUOTE
The proposed creation of a separate headquarters for PLA ground forces and reorganization of the military regions will reverberate throughout military intelligence
QUOTE
The PLA’s basic organization of intelligence includes the General Staff Department (GSD), the military regions, and intelligence departments within the PLA’s two services and one autonomous branch — respectively, the PLA Navy (PLAN), PLA Air Force (PLAAF), and the PLA Second Artillery Force (PLASAF)
QUOTE
The GSD’s Second Department (2PLA) manages clandestine and overt human intelligence operations (HUMINT)
QUOTE
The GSD Third Department (3PLA) is the national signals intelligence (SIGINT) authority, roughly comparable to the U.S. National Security Agency or the U.K. Government Communications Headquarters
QUOTE
The GSD Fourth Department (4PLA) is responsible for electronic intelligence (ELINT) and electronic warfare (EW)
QUOTE
The military regions and the services divide their intelligence functions between a headquarters intelligence department supported by at least one technical reconnaissance bureau: the PLAAF has three, the PLAN two.
QUOTE
The technical reconnaissance bureaus collect information through technical means, presumably tactical SIGINT, tactical ELINT, and, according to some reports, computer network operations.
QUOTE
The ground forces’ domination of the GSD and the other three general departments (armament, logistics, and political) stems in part from a lack of separation between the ground forces and these departments that are supposed to serve the entire Chinese military.
QUOTE
First, the ground forces’ new headquarters will probably have its own intelligence department and possibly even a technical reconnaissance bureau.
QUOTE
Second, to the extent that the GSD intelligence departments support the ground forces, observers should expect to see elements of these departments transferred to the ground forces’ intelligence department and technical reconnaissance bureau.
QUOTE
Third, in the imminent reorganization of the military regions into “battle zone commands,” their intelligence departments and possibly their technical reconnaissance bureaus must be reorganized accordingly.
QUOTE
If the Chinese military implements every single one of the announced proposals, this round of reform could wind up being as significant as the reforms undertaken in the early 1950s.

That one due to US pressure. If it was up to France they'd be sailing the ships to Vladivistok at the first opportunity. laugh.gif

Now they're forced to sell the ships at a loss to Egypt. Russia had agreed to pay 1.4 billion euros for the two, now France have to settle for 950 million euros for the Egyptian sale.

Russian Helicopters confirms agreement with Egypt for 46 Kamov Ka-52 aircraft

user posted image

MOSCOW , December 30. /TASS/. Russia has signed an agreement with Egypt for delivery of forty-six helicopters of the Ka-52 Alligator family, the Director General of the JSC Russian Helicopters holding company, Alexander Mikheyev, said on Wednesday.

"In this knotty situation, we've managed to keep up the financial parameters reached previously and to broaden the presence of Russian helicopter technologies in the world market," he said. "For instance, a large agreement for delivery of forty-six Ka-52 Alligator helicopters has been signed with Egypt through [the state weaponry trading company] Rosoboronexport."

In the summer, a source in the military diplomatic milieu told TASS Egypt had commissioned Ka-52 helicopters to Russia. Another source said several months later the case in hand was 50 helicopters and the handover of the sea-based version of the Ka-52 developed and built for deployment aboard the Mistral class helicopter carriers built in France upon an order from the Russian Navy.

As was the case for the Royal Morrocan Navy’s Mohammed VI FREMM, the former Normandie saw its second row of vertical launch system (SYLVER A70, used to launch MBDA’s naval cruise missiles) and the two SIGEN R-ECM electronic warfare and jammer systems removed because of export limitations for these sensitive equipments.

it is equipped with K-37-800M shock-absorbing ejector seats

QUOTE
For improved pilot survivability the Ka-50 is fitted with a NPP Zvezda (transl. Star) K-37-800 ejection seat, which is a rare feature for a helicopter. Before the rocket in the ejection seat deploys, the rotor blades are blown away by explosive charges in the rotor disc and the canopy is jettisoned.

Kamov combat helicopters (KA-50, KA-52)have a main rotor detachment system that uses explosive bolts. This detaches the main rotor and only then the ejector seats activate. It is unique, but hardly secret.

I'm surprised more people here are not aware of this. tongue.gif

Looks like Yemen strategy of launching Scud missiles actually worked in a way, with reports of Saudi princes suddenly going on 'holidays' overseas jumping significantly. laugh.gif

QUOTE
Saudis, including Royal family members, are in a rush to flee the country after Yemen intensifies its Scud missile attacks on Saudi Arabia’s South, media reports said.

“The Saudi residents of Khamees al-Mushait are waiting in a several-kilometer-long trail of cars to flee after their city was hit by Yemeni Scud missiles,” the Arabic-language Sa’ada Press news website reported.

The Riyadh-based Ahrar al-Hejaz news website also reported that many Saudi princes have fled to western countries, specially France and Britain, after consecutive defeats of King Salman’s army and plots, adding that some other princes are running away in anticipation of trial and punishment due to their opposition to the king’s war on Yemen.

Looks like the Polish Leopard 2PL will be using the same turret as the Indonesian Leopard 2RI but without the add-on armor modules on it's hull.

Syrian Army unstoppable at Sheikh Meskin – Map update

user posted image

Hours ago, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), heavily aided by Russian airstrikes, was able to impose full control over the city of Sheikh Meskin in the Daraa governorate of southern Syria. Effectively, rebels have been forced to abandon the city and flee southwest to a river on the perimeter of Sheikh Meskin.

This serves as a vital blow to rebels who otherwise have seen their forces make steady gains in the countryside of Daraa during the past two years. To add insult to injury, government troops stationed at the provincial capital of Daraa have also advanced deep inside the previously rebel-held district of Daraa al-Balad during the past weeks.

Strategically, the SAA is attempting to regain control of the M5-highway which links Daraa with the Syrian capital of Damascus. Currently, government troops are forced to use the railway and some minor country roads to bring in supplies to soldiers and civilians inside the government-held part of Daraa city.

The last rebel-held towns along the highway are Dael and Abtaa which have both had their eastern entrance besieged by government troops. If these are recaptured by the SAA, the road will be re-opened and supplies will be transported to Daraa city much more cost-effectively.

Tech at Its Best: PAK FA Named 'Game-Changing' Aircraft of the 21st Century

user posted image

QUOTE
"Though still in prototype, Moscow thinks the Su-50 will ultimately be able to outperform the F-35 on key metrics including speed and maneuverability. The stealth capabilities of the Su-50, however, are believed to be below those of the F-22 and the F-35," the media outlet observed.
QUOTE
he compared the T-50 and the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor, the first fifth-generation jet in Washington's arsenal. Both planes have a lot in common and could come out victorious in an aerial battle. The F-22 is indeed superior when it comes to stealth.
QUOTE
Once the plane is combat-ready, it will serve as a base model for the construction of further variants intended for export. India is already co-designing a Su-50 variant with Russia, and Iran and South Korea are possible candidates to buy future models of the plane," the media outlet noted.
