Simple,so the wheels could turn properly and because we dont want to

The tyres are harder than you think and extra armour would mean extra weight.meaning we couldn't go 90km/h on the road.

The wheels are easily replaceable and we would be back in the fight in less than an hour if the wheels are hit.anything that can could destroy the wheels beyond repair could penetrate the main armour anyway so we accept it as part of life.
When the last time you heard about her bro?last i know she's with the 7th fleet

Hard enough for cross country running maybe but not as hard as any bullet or shrapnel though. I still don't think wheeled armored vehicles belong in the front lines. They are way too vulnerable for hard combat and certainly not as APC or IFV that operate on the front edge of combat together with more heavily armored vehicles like MBT or tracked AC/IFVs.

If you look at the side profile of any wheeled APC, they are literally 50% consisting of exposed wheels just begging to be shot. For me that's way too much soft target to be freely displayed to your enemies. A single MG or rifle burst could potentially take out every wheel on one side of the vehicle.

While I think wheeled armored vehicles do still have a military role, I think they are more suited to non-direct combat ones as light recon platforms or internal-security vehicles. For combat, give me a tracked M113 anyday. laugh.gif

Syrian Army set to reopen strategic Damascus-Daraa highway – Map update

user posted image

Earlier today, Syrian government troops captured the northern Daraa suburb of Itman after a three-day long battle that overwhelmed local rebels forces. Furthermore, ten days ago, the Syrian Arab Army’s 15th Brigade of the 5th Armored Division – in close coordination with the National Defense Forces and the 7th Mechanized Division – finally managed to capture the city of Sheikh Meskin (Shaykh Miskin) after a costly battle in southern Syria that brought many casualities upon Islamist rebels as well as government troops. Due to the capture of the aforementioned towns, the government could possibly reopen the strategic M5-highway that runs by Damascus through Sheikh Meskin onto Daraa city in the near future. Nevertheless, Islamist have entrenched themselves at the rebel-held towns of Da’el and ‘Ibta which must be captured prior to reopening the M5 highway. Formerly, the government relied upon the old Jezreel Valley railway, the M1-highway as well as several minor roads as to bring supplies and ammunitions to Daraa city. The provincial capital of Daraa, the scene of the earliest protests against the Syrian government in 2011, contains routes crucial to both the Syrian army and rebel fighters. While rebel fighters inside Daraa city receive regular reinforcements and supplies from Jordan, the Syrian Government has come under increasing pressure due to a narrow supply line from Damascus city caused by a several rebel offensive in 2013 and 2014. However, with the government capture of Sheikh Meskin and ‘Itman, the Syrian Arab Army has once again gained momentum in southern Syria.

Syrian Army captures Al-Naymah near the Jordanian border

user posted image

On Friday night inside the Dara’a Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army’s 38th Brigade of the 5th Armored Division – in close coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) and the Palestine Liberation Army (PLA) – imposed full control over the village of Al-Naymah after a violent battle with the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

The Syrian Armed Forces launched their powerful assault on Al-Naymah this evening, when they launched a barrage of mortar shells into this village located at the eastern flank of Dara’a City. The capture of Al-Naymah comes just 18 hours after the Syrian Armed Forces seized the imperative town of ‘Itman near the provincial capital of the Dara’a Governorate. With Al-Naymah and ‘Itman under their control, the Syrian Armed Forces have secured the northern and eastern flanks of Dara’a City, leaving the Islamist rebels with only two flanks to attack the provincial capital from.

As a result of their military operations near the provincial capital today, the Syrian Armed Forces are inching closer to securing the vast Jordanian border with the Dara’a Governorate; this is something that they have been unable to do since they lost their last border-crossing at Nassib. Rebels almost entirely expelled from Latakia as SAA captures new village – Map update

user posted image

Moments ago, the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard – assisted by several Syrian paramilitaries – captured Bashura village in the northeastern countryside of Latakia governorate after government troops crossed a nearby river and subsequently stormed the area. The capture was heavily assisted by Russian airstrikes that struck insurgents of Jabhat al-Nusra and the Free Syrian Army’s 1st Coastal Brigade. A few weeks ago, the battlefield tides turned on the coast of Syria as local rebels suddenly saw themselves lose village after village including their former strongholds of Salma and Rabia.

Effectively, government forces have advanced deep inside rebel territory that was previously held by opposition forces. Currently, just a few miles prevent the SAA from recapturing the Latakia-Turkish border and completely expelling local opposition forces to Jish al-Shigbour and Idlib further east. Over the past 3½ years, the frontline in Latakia has been relatively static with both sides trading blows back and forth. However, primarily due to Russian airstrikes, reinforcements and a regional change of command, government troops have gradually pushed from Latakia to Idlib and advanced into areas previously thought to be impenetrable. Meanwhile, hundreds of rebels have retreated from Latakia province months ago to reinforce the southern Aleppo front line.

Ibtaa and Dael surrender to the government in Daara, Syria

South Front have reported that the towns of Ibtaa and Dael are to surrender unconditionally to the Syrian Arab Army. The towns are located in Dara’a province. It is part of a wider reconciliation process that will start tomorrow. The people of Ibtaa and Dael are to raise the Syrian Arab Republic’s flags over the important buildings of the 2 towns tomorrow. Only limited amounts of Army personnel are to enter the town, not as a liberation force but rather to see the smooth transition of the towns back into government hands.

Syrian Army captures several points in northern Latakia

user posted image

The Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard and their allies have recently carried out a number of small-scale attacks inside the northern countryside of the Latakia Governorate, resulting in several gains around the strategic village of Kinsibba. On Monday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade – backed by the Syrian Marines, the National Defense Forces (NDF), Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade), and the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) – imposed full control over several points in Jabal Al-Akrad (Kurdish Mountains) after a fierce battle with the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

The Syrian Armed Forces began the day by capturing the small villages of Tal Ziyarah Al-Bayda, Dahrat Al-Baydar Al-Mahrouq, ‘Ard Al-Katf, Al-Ruweisat, Al-Sweida, Wadi Al-‘Azraq, and Al-Hawr; this was followed by the seizure of Points 425, 466, 529, 816, 932, and 1112 before nightfall on Monday. With the aforementioned sites captured in northern Latakia, the Syrian Armed Forces are steadily advancing towards the imperative villages of Kinsibba and Kabane inside Jabal Al-Akrad. While Kinsibba is the primary target for the Syrian Armed Forces, the battle for Kabane will also become a focal point for the government in the coming weeks as it is the gateway to the rebel stronghold of Al-Sirmaniyah in Sahl Al-Ghaab (Al-Ghaab Plains).

Hezbollah, Syrian capture Kafr Naya in northern Aleppo

user posted image

Moments ago inside the northern countryside of the Aleppo Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army’s 154th Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division – in close coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF), Hezbollah, and several Iraqi paramilitary units – imposed full control over the village of Kafr Naya after 72 hour long battle with the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group), Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki, Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, and Jaysh Al-Mujahiddeen.

For 3 straight days, the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies attempted to break-through the Islamist rebel defenses at the village of Kafr Naya; however, the opposition forces were able to fend off the advance for the better part of 2 day before their fortifications finally collapsed. Kafr Naya is strategically located directly south of the Islamist stronghold of Tal Rifa’at in northern Aleppo; if captured, they will be within striking distance of the Mennagh Military Airport that the predominately Kurdish “People’s Protection Units” (YPG) are attempting to seize at the moment. However, it is very unlikely the Syrian Armed Forces push further north; instead, they will likely advance east towards the rebel stronghold of Mar’e, where they will circle the remaining Islamist-held villages and cut them off from their main supply route that flows through the city of ‘Azaz.

Syrian Army begins large-scale military operation to retake Tabaqa Airport

user posted image

On Wednesday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 555th Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division – in close coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF), Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade), Kataebat Al-Ba’ath (Al-Ba’ath Battalions), and Fouj Al-Joulan (Golani Regiment) – imposed full control over 3 points in eastern Hama after launching a major military operation to recapture the Ithriyah-Raqqa Road that leads to the Tabaqa Military Airport.

The Syrian Arab Army’s 555th Brigade and their allies began their assault on Wednesday morning by storming Hill 5 along the Ithriyah-Raqqa Road; this resulted in a fierce battle with the so-called “Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham” (ISIS) for nearly 3 hours before they were able to establish full control over this site. Following the capture of Hill 5, the Syrian Arab Army’s 555th Brigade and their allies advanced to Tal Abu Zayn, where they were confronted by a large force of ISIS fighters at this small hilltop in the deserts of eastern Hama.

It did not take long for the Syrian Armed Forces to capture Tal Abu Zayn and a nearby water well at the village of Tal Zakiyah; however, they were unable to advance due to the coming nightfall that was descending upon the Hama-Raqqa axis. Currently, the Syrian Armed Forces are positioned approximately 45 km away from the Tabaqa Military Airport, marking the first time in nearly 18 months that they have had any presence near the Al-Raqqa border.

Rebel defenses fall apart as Kurdish and government forces advance in northern Aleppo

user posted image

The last 48 hours in northern Aleppo have been incredibly tense for the Islamist rebels of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, the Free Syrian Army (FSA), Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki, and Jabhat Al-Shamiyah, as they have found themselves under fire along three different fronts by three different enemy forces. On Wednesday, the Syrian Arab Army’s 154th Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division – backed by Hezbollah, the National Defense Forces (NDF), and several Iraqi paramilitary units – imposed full control over the village of Kafr Naya after a 72 hour long battle with the Islamist rebels of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group), and Jaysh Al-Mujahiddeen.

As a result of their loss at Kafr Naya, the Islamist rebels now have their backs against the wall at their stronghold of Tal Rifa’at, which is located directly north of the captured village. Meanwhile, northwest of Tal Rifa’at, the predominately Kurdish “People’s Protection Units” (YPG) – alongside Jaysh Al-Thuwwar of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) – continued their powerful assault at the Mennagh Military Airport on Wednesday, capturing Mennagh Village and the western perimeter of the base after the Islamists from Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and the Free Syrian Army retreated towards the military barracks.

Despite several claims of its capture, the YPG and SDF have yet to take complete control of the Mennagh Military Airport; however, it is very likely to fall in the coming hours as the Islamist rebels lack the manpower to repel the swarming enemy forces. It may appear that the government and Kurdish forces are working together in northern Aleppo, but in reality, they are both operating autonomously of one another.

tires that size are reinforced with steel bars and for military grade the standards are even higher... bullets and small shrapnel can only puncture the tires making it lose pressure but not shape... thus with the number of tires only by ripping the rubber and steel bars off all of the tires on at least one side can you immobilize such a vehicle as compared to only one chain of tracks each side... also with the increase use of modern slip differential tech on its suspension it makes such vehicle extremely versatile and mobile.

with the proliferation of IEDs, vehicle designed with tires allow for better shaping of under carriage for better personnel protection not forgetting the ability of the vehicles to remain mobile when one of its tire gets hit with a small landmine/ied vs the track being rip off

Russian PM warns US, Saudis against starting ‘permanent war’ with ground intervention in Syria

The latest statement by Turkish PM Ahmet Davutoglu, who pledged to return a “historical debt” to Turkey’s “Aleppo brothers,” gave new rise to speculations over a looming Turkish ground invasion of Syria.

Seoul fears Kaesong will become North Korean military base

"If North Korea redeploys its troops, then it may not be easy to decide what to do with the Kaesong Industrial Complex, but we leave the possibilities open", he said.

NYPD admits to using "Stringrays," military tech that sweeps up cell data

user posted image

QUOTE
The NYPD has used cell-site simulators, commonly known as Stingrays, more than 1,000 times since 2008, according to documents turned over to the [NYCLU]. The documents represent the first time the department has acknowledged using the devices.

The NYPD also disclosed that it does not get a warrant before using a Stingray, which sweeps up massive amounts of data. Instead, the police obtain a “pen register order” from a court... [which] do not require the police to establish probable cause...

High-Tech Army Device Helps Mobile Infantry

QUOTE
Nett Warrior is also equipped with technologies allowing it to operate in the dark without giving away a light signature or letting enemies know where they are. For bright sunlight, the system uses a sun-blocking screen.

The technology also uses a technique called a “chem light,” wherein a Soldier can highlight or “light up” a location to pass along key information such as the location of a cleared building or other data relevant to an ongoing fight.

“This helps the fight at the Platoon level by providing a visual picture or voice instruction about, for example, the location of a house they are going to take down,” Marsh added.
