u made pipu laugh, pal!  rclxm9.gif

dun change topic, ok. brows.gif

u use personal cheque, fd cert still issue out same day and dated same day (other than bank rakyat). no need to wait for cheque to clear, bro.
*
Is not changing topic. Is I really don't know. Cause people tell me cheques need few days to clear. But banker's cheque is instant. I thought banks treat personal cheque (like the type you write and sign/some print) different from banker's cheque? Personal cheque should be more stringent compare to banker's cheque. No?

My question on the scenario is still not answered. So I am right or wrong in the above scenario? rclxub.gif

I have never received a cheque before nor have I wrote a cheque before.

And yygo Since you know so much, teach me la. I really don't know this cheque stuff or you just NATO? laugh.gif

As long as use banker's cheque, your FD should start on the day itself. No need to wait like normal cheque.

Banker's cheque > FD > instant
Personal cheque (cheque from company) > FD > instant?

Is not exactly OT. Maybe I should make it clearer. Cause eg Mr A is boss of company and Mr B is the worker who receives rm10k salary in cheque from company and wish to put promo rates FD. Mr B brings cheque from company to bank and place FD. The question now is will the FD be done on the day itself (instant) or Mr B needs to wait a few days for cheque to clear?

Hope is clear now my question.

Yes I am confused. That's why I am asking. So regarding my question on Mr B, will that be instant or will Mr B need to wait for his FD? Sorry. I am noob in all these cheques. Never had any experience.

I think I understand what Ramjade is trying to say.

A Banker's Cheque is issued by the Bank. you bring money to the bank and purchase a banker's cheque to pay another party. Normally this is considered good for payment because it is issued by a Bank. Banks will normally proceed with FD placement with banker's cheque.

Any cheques issued by anyone, be it company's cheque or personal cheque are sometimes tend to be bounce / returned due to insufficient fund. Banks will normally clear the cheque first to make sure the cheque is valid for payment / having sufficient fund for payment. Only then they will proceed with FD plaement.

Hope this explain the confusion.

Yes. Thank you. That's it. So if we get a personal /company cheque, it still needs clearing before can place FD. Needs clearing which means not instantly.

to answer the question, if u used personal or company cheque, u still get the fd cert on the same day, effective same day (bank rakyat is different). if cheque bounced, then fd cancelled, clause in banks t & c.

u have not used personal cheque to place fd? hmm.gif

Yup, correct. Needs clearing first, normally around 2 working days. But some Banks will backdate to the day that you present the cheque to them.

Eg. You send the cheque on 1st, so the bank send for clearing.
On the 3rd, the cheque is realised / cleared.
FD placement date effective 1st.

Do take note that not all the Banks practice the same placement date.

wat u said is transparent to the person who placed the cheque for fd. the contention is his statement below:

As long as use banker's cheque, your FD should start on the day itself. No need to wait like normal cheque.

The statement is self explained already.

Just that he/she might be confused.

For a noob like me, I might not know how to differentiate the difference between a Banker's cheque and a personal cheque or a company's cheque.
Cheque is cheque lo.... got so many different type of cheque meh ? blink.gif rclxub.gif doh.gif

Sorry, no offence ya... biggrin.gif

Nope does that surprised you? I told you I am a student. Haven't received a cheque before. I put FD by carrying cash/banker's cheque if the amount is too big.

Your are correct.

However like my case where I did FD placement with HLB using MayBank Banker's Cheque, the deposited amount will only be shown in my online account AFTER the Banker's Cheque are cleared (I was told 2~3 days). However the date remains as the date I deposited the Banker's Cheque.
