Just sharing some experience...my house was recently renovated and my friend recommended me to check out taobao and so I did...at first I didn't understand much about shipping charges and just went on to buy some lights...it was a painful lesson for me coz it was chandeliers I bought...big but not heavy (shipping cost me almost rm700)...I paid almost double the price of the chandeliers...so I did more research and found out there was something called prime from ezbuy...I was skeptical but still tried out the one month trial anyway (rm18.80)...after my first order, I decided to buy everything I could possibly for my house using prime...coz shipping is only rm8.80 per checkout! I bought lights for the whole house, an ottoman, side tables, coffee table, shower heads, bidets, taps etc (didn't dare to buy electronic stuff only)...on average I save more than 50%...quality by the looks of it is worth it (don't expect European quality la) and some even exceeded expectations...my contractor even ask me how the hell do I get so cheap...I can't tell how long will those stuff last coz I just bought them, all working at first try though...throughout my experience, here are the pros and cons:

Pros
1. Cheap compared to local marketplace. Usually around 50% cheaper
2. Quality is good, sometimes exceed expectations
3. So far, no items missing

Cons
1. Slow delivery, takes on average a month to arrive. Sometimes 2 months.
2. You can't see the item so u pray hard it looks exactly the same from the picture. I'm not fussy so if a bit different, I don't mind
3. Damaged items are common. My lights were dented but wasn't so bad until very obvious so I didn't bother to return
4. Sometimes after ordering for 1 month, they can tell u no stock and refund money to you. It can be frustrating, thus, if urgent purchase, don't buy from China

I haven't opened everything yet especially furniture coz house still very dusty. If no edit here, means all good...haha
*
when shopping prime, need to be careful. if not you will kena ripped off kaokao. seen some items they sell on prime, RM80, but when view original site. the price is only RMB80. so yeah. you already paid for the shipping in many cases. but some big items can really save money on shipping.

share lah some items, what you bought and links. then people also can enjoyz heheh.

Yes, ur right...some items are cheaper in taobao itself...but most of the time, prime will be cheaper or almost the same after include shipping fee...I don't really bother if only a few bucks difference unless multiple quantity...here's some stuff I bought...I'm using mobile phone, so too much hassle to paste link...but if anyone wants to know the link, can pm me and I'll send it

These are bought via prime except the order with 3 "big ball" chandelier/hanging light

I presume ur asking about the orange colour shower mounted on wall one...that one I bought silver colour for rm300 (include shipping to doorstep of rm8.80 + rm8)...my contractor has to reposition the pipes to fit it of course...I don't know how much he will charge me for that...all I can say is that shower works like expected (on first few times try)...again I don't know about future problems coz I haven't moved in yet...if u ask me, for now, i look at it and I'm proud of it...haha

If ur asking about the normal shower heads, it's not exactly full stainless steel...I think it's coated stainless steel or the steel is very thin coz it feels light...the head with hose and bar cost rm90+ each (before shipping)...no complaints yet coz water comes out of it at first try...haha

That footstool was rm39...haven't open yet...
*
hmm. still much cheaper than malaysia price. the only thing i worry about these type of items is replacements hahah.

the footstool so cheap shakehead.gif maybe will go look at it later hahah.

One of my best purchased, works beautifully. My corridor is bright but I want it to lit up whenever I'm at the door way, taping the sensor will do the trick or else it will only work when surrounding is dark enough.

this one after it blow then just throw away the whole thing right?

Hey guys,

Based on your experience will there be a significant saving buying from Taobao compared to local purchase? (Given the quality is more or less the same)
*
depends what you are buying.

for instance. an Eames chair on Taobao can be purchased at RM45-50. whereas locally they are around RM90+

if you are using EZbuy prime, then shipping is RM8.8 for the entire delivery (regardless of weight/size) so buying even 1 chair, you can save a decent amount. buy more chairs and even cheaper.

My experiences from Toabao are so far so good, I bought a dressing table from Ezbuy, the quality is better than local furniture shop.

I also bought a undermount faucet for my water filter, the built is very solid too. (This Taobao seller is after I dig here and there, checkout rating, PM the seller and so-on)

I also bought series of item for my wedding deco which end up beyond my expectation and I save more than RM1k alone for the deco.

But most important part is how to identify a reliable seller in Taobao, must know how to differentiate on the rating. (U may google on taobao seller rating table)
Local got ppl sell 90++? My furniture shop nearby sell Rm300++ le!
*
hahah. got some people on lelong i think. i think they also just get from china and resell. in actual shop i guess they will mark up. but for lelong just x2 is already good margin as low overhead costs (if any). good business for those who rajin. tell customer delivery in 1.5 months. then buy and then give to customer. easy money.

Thank you for your info. Is prime really RM8.80 per shipment regardless the weight and size of the item? Any hidden charges?
*
yes. it is RM8.8 per shipment to your door. No hidden charges. You need to pay domestic delivery from the store to the warehouse though. but thats normally not much and 90% of the time probably free.

the issue is you cannot control the delivery time. last time i ship 10 items and they deliver to my house in 3-4 times as whatever arrives they straight send out in their van. so that is annoying, but if you or someone always home, then no issue.

the only charges that might be added on for some shipments is GST. but that is after a certain threshold. i think RM300-400 then will kena GST.

Yes RM 8.80 from their warehouse to Malaysia warehouse only for products they listed as prime. If seller charge sending out goods, you have to pay for it (from seller shop/house to china warehouse), than from Malaysia warehouse to your door (free if selfcollect).
*
ah yea yea. i think need to pay for home deilvery which is RM8. but if not mistaken they dont care how many delivery. last time i paid only 1 time. then they send so many times cause they split shipment by themselves.

Do you know if they charge for the "repack" fee? So far I buy from them does not have any repack involved, so I do not know if there is such fee.
*

yes. it will charge 8.8 to whatever order you put in your cart and check out. please note, doesnt mean they will ship it as one shipment. but you will be charged only once for that order.

wow that's great

that means i can consolidate 50 items under one order and only pay rm8.80

thanks
*
Should be. But note that you may receive the items in 10 shipments. As they won't wait. 5 items received. Then straight ship out. Etc.

This is my first prime order, so I don't know if prime order is able to acknowledge purchased item.
But I do used their "Ship For Me" service quite often, out of my 11 "Ship For Me" order, I was able to acknowledge 6 of them. The other 5 orders left half way hanging, even I already received my items long time ago. Maybe the person did not mark the those order as delivered on their side, so I am not able to acknowledge on my side.
*
hahaha. i got soooo many orders hanging there lol. got one which is "Out for Delivery" for like 6 months di hahah.

Hi all, just wanna ask sifus here that i wanna buy a baby floor mat. purchased went thru but the later day seller says the item is too big to be shipped.

Any idea?  The mat is ard 6ft x 6ft
*
nothing too big to be shipped. people can buy mattress, 3+2 sofa, etc and no issue. your seller either conning you or malas. just ask for refund and buy elsewhere. not worth dealing.

Seller says refunded. not sure why cant ship thou. or the seller not doing shipment and pass to other agent?
i think my wife directly purchase on TB.
*
most sellers wont ship overseas. too much hassle for them. if you are buying to ship here better to find agent like ezbuy or can even use taobaos own agent. then the seller only need to ship to china address, then they no issue to ship.
