 Cooler recommendation, Below RM150

Hi guys, need a recommendation for LGA2011. Budget around RM150. Need to be able to fit on Rampage IV and doesn't block any of the 8 ram slots.

Any rampage IV with budget cooler user here?

thanks bro. seems legit to me rclxms.gif hyper212x seems like a very good cooler that fits my budget. but what im concern now is that does it block my ram stick? the forth and the fifth especially. i've got 8 adata 2133mhz with the not so tall heatspreader. about the noise, can just replace the fan with something quieter?

Sure, you can replace it with quiter fans like Noctua NF-F12 (Design for heatsinks)

If NF-F12 out of stock, you can try NF-P12 (High static pressure - also design for heatsink, but much older compared to NF-F12).

These 2 fans are much quieter than regular fans + comes with 6 years warranty.
If fan spoil (e.g. got oil leaking from fan), just shoot the manufacturer an e-mail with the photo of spoil fan and photo of receipt you purchase.
Noctua will send you a new replacement, shipping period will be around 2 weeks from Austria to Malaysia.
You will not need to pay anything for the new fan including shipping cost.
You can do this method assuming the reseller is not that helpful/slow with your RMA product.


The Hyper 212x metal heatsink will not block any RAM, see video:

that's very kind of you. your output is very much appreciated. just ordered a hyper 212x according to your recommendation. now scorching for the fan. even with the fan installed it will not block my ram? or is the height adjustable? all fans are typically same thickness? thank you very much smile.gif

You can move the fan up if you are using tall heatsink RAM. With low profile RAM/memory, you will not encounter this issue.
Before buying a 3rd party fan to replace the default fan on Cooler Master Hyper 212x, try that fan first.
See whether your computer case can dampen the noise to a bearable level. So you can save $$$ money. icon_rolleyes.gif

Side note: You don't need to do a push-pull config for the Hyper 212X, since it only reduces the temperature by a meager 1-3 Celsius (not worth the money).

got the hyper 212X already today. what about the ram? i've got 8x8gb and its quite packed together. do i need cooling for the ram too?

not required unless you are over clocking the memory.
what's your total ram size and xmp speed?

8x8gb 2133mhz adata ddr3. the one with the red heat spreader.

if your computer case has fan slots on the roof, you can install one above to pull in fresh air from outside to blowcair across your motherboard and RAM to cool them down.

usually 2 intake and 1 out for the fan setup should provide optimal cooling. all 3 fans should be the same size 140mm / 120mm.

yeah, it's also a very large and heavy computer case.

for CM storm trooper, you can have the 2 x 120mm front as air intake, reposition it to have air to be blown across the motherboard rather than from left-side to right-side ventilation holes.

i believe the rear is using a default 140mm fan and top using 200mm fan for CM Storm trooper, so that does not need to be swapped out.

you could reposition the 200mm fan as air intake to blow cool air across the memory module and motherboard.

With 3 fans as intake (2 x 120mm + 1 x 200mm) + 1 fan as exhaust (140mm), it already creates a positive air flow case where the dust will be collected on the dust filter rather than pulling air from the gaps/mini holes where the fan isn't pulling air.

Hi, I'm back again. follow exactly what you've taught. Works great. Thanks a million! rclxms.gif however, nowadays i ran it at 4.5ghz and temp seems to be around 40 during idling and low 80 during aida84 (4 top option checked). the max temp seems too high for me. any recommendation for improvement?

Method #1:
If you use a premium air cooler such as NH-D15, it reduces temperature by 10-15 Celsius when performing high overclock, but it will costs 3 times more than Hyper 212X Cooler which is currently out of your budget.

Method #2:
Run CPU at a lower overclock or stock.
The current method is to evaluate whether those extra overclock GHz is actually beneficial in work load performance.
Example:
CPU at 3.8 GHz renders a 1080p 30fps 1 minute video in 4 minutes (60 celsius),
CPU at 4.2 GHz renders a 1080p 30fps 1 minute video in 3 minutes 20 seconds (67 celsius), = +7 Celsius for 40 seconds improvement
CPU at 4.5 GHz renders a 1080p 30fps 1 minute video in 3 minutes 10 seconds (79 celsius), = +12 Celsius for 10 seconds improvement.

So 4.2 GHz seems to be the sweetspot for performance and heat.


Method #3:
Ensure your cable are managed properly (placed behind the motherboard rear), so cool air flow will not be obstructed from front to the rear of the CPU. This method will reduce temp by 2~4 Celsius when done properly.

Method #4:
Re-evaluate overclock by reducing voltages till to its minimum stable overclock.
In Windows, set it to Balance instead of Performance Mode (100% always OC mode)

Im running it at 4.5ghz at around 1.328v max. Temp during rendering is around 79-82. During benchmark its slightly higher.

Oh my how come they are getting far better result than mine with the same CPU while running at 4.6 and 1.4v? Am I doing anything wrong here? I assure I'm having a good air flow in my case. Or is hyper 212+ different than 212 evo?
