Just got back from Osaka & Kyoto.  Please dont bother with any pass if you only visit this area.  Just buy the ICOCA Haruka card (macam our TouchNGo but incl Express Train from airport to osaka/kyoto) and thats enough.  Those passes are overpaid cos you will end up use train, subway and buses and those pass dont cover all this cos only cover train/rail saja.    And on most areas, you will be walking alot from one place to another even.  Just enjoy the trip and dont think of saving pennies when you already spend pounds.

And oh ya, the queue at KIX counter on the 1st floor is pretty long if you touch down around 6-7am in the morning.  So be prepared to queue for 1 hr at that time.  If you arrive after 9am is better cos more counters are open.  FYI.

Try to check out if the JR West Pass is more worth it.  You can buy 1-day pass and do Himeji & Kobe on same day.  I did Nara without pass - just buy rail fare to & fro, cheaper than any pass.

if you want to use osaka subway (without the admission discount), may consider eco card or 1 day subway pass too, better than amazing pass.

Visit Takayama only survival Edo period house. (Takayama Jinya)
Visit Shiroyama Park.
Visit Sakurayama Hachiman-gu Shrine.

Around 5 or 6pm at Takayama Nohi Bus Station taking Bus back to Kanazawa.

If the journey is not long then just try your luck at unreserved seats. No point spending on reserving seat if the journey is short.

mt24 the unreserved seat fare is ¥670+¥860 (just FYI, you need to click the drop down on hyperdia and select 'unreserved seat'). Still a significant cost difference.

We just did something similar a few days ago.
Took the normal train from kanazawa to takaoka station. Price was 870 yen.

The bus from takaoka departing to ainokura via Johana departs at 8.10. We bought the bus pass so that we can hop on and off to along the way

Then buy the bus pass that allows return journey that's 3500 yen. Same can be bought at takaoka station. Once u stop at any 2 places the bus pas's is cheaper u can check it out

For Shirakawa go to head back once u arrived at shirakawago before u head for sightseeing best to book your ticket first at the terminal

From takaoka the bus is not that full.

If u are keen on eating, takaoka has lovely sushi from toyama bay. It's a past died city but has various sightseeing and it's great to see.

If I had to redo shirakawago would have been a miss for us. Overhyped and over touristy.

From kanazawa take the wajima tour would be much nicer.

Both also best if you are 1st timer. For me old timer prefer Gokayama because peaceful. Shirakawago too many tourist.

Between ainokura and sugamu prefer ainokura
Ainokura is much higher so  colder and has more snow now. It's also much quieter really far from the maddening crowds
If shopping then Shirakawa go. There is nothing much to shop at ainokura.
If it's washi paper only ainokura has them
So hard to say which is better unless u prioritise your goals in your question
