QUOTE(familyfirst @ Dec 30 2015, 10:41 AM) Just got back from Osaka & Kyoto. Please dont bother with any pass if you only visit this area. Just buy the ICOCA Haruka card (macam our TouchNGo but incl Express Train from airport to osaka/kyoto) and thats enough. Those passes are overpaid cos you will end up use train, subway and buses and those pass dont cover all this cos only cover train/rail saja. And on most areas, you will be walking alot from one place to another even. Just enjoy the trip and dont think of saving pennies when you already spend pounds. i will need kansai thru pass as i will be going to Himeji , Kobe and Nara from Osaka. That will save me alot. And oh ya, the queue at KIX counter on the 1st floor is pretty long if you touch down around 6-7am in the morning. So be prepared to queue for 1 hr at that time. If you arrive after 9am is better cos more counters are open. FYI. Other that KIX counter, where else can I buy Kansai Thru Pass? |

QUOTE(familyfirst @ Dec 30 2015, 02:27 PM) Try to check out if the JR West Pass is more worth it. You can buy 1-day pass and do Himeji & Kobe on same day. I did Nara without pass - just buy rail fare to & fro, cheaper than any pass. already did my calculation i think should be fine considering we gonna hoping train / subway. some more this pass cover bus. at least we can estimate how much the transportation cost for that day.2 days Kansai Thru Pass: Y4000 2 days JR West Pass: Y4300 another pass that I think usefull is Osaka Amazing Pass. Havent study completely yet but I think worth it for those who want to pusing pusing around Osaka. |

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Dec 30 2015, 06:46 PM) if you want to use osaka subway (without the admission discount), may consider eco card or 1 day subway pass too, better than amazing pass. I think worst come to worst just purchase suica card and use like touch and go hahha And at kyoto we plan to be on bike and bus. Bus will be using bus pass. |

Ok. Enough with airbnb.
Do u guys think enough to cover Shirakawa-go and Takayama in a day? I will be staying at Kanazawa, from there will take early morning bus to Shirakawago. Since nothing much to see except scenery and village house, i am thinking not to waste more time and stret go to Takayama after that by bus around 12 noon. Will go back to Kanazawa around 4pm. Is it too ambitious? |

I need help in reading hyperdia.
I want to go to ainokura fron kanazawa. So i will take shinkansen from kanazawa to shin-takaoka. From there will take bus. According to hyperdia, Fare there stated Y670. But with seat become Y3030. Is it necessary to buy seat when riding shinkansen? I can stand without seat as the journey only 13 mins. |

QUOTE(deodorant @ Mar 7 2016, 12:55 PM) mt24 the unreserved seat fare is ¥670+¥860 (just FYI, you need to click the drop down on hyperdia and select 'unreserved seat'). Still a significant cost difference. Oh thanks deodorant for telling me that. I hv been in delusional why it was cheaper than normal train while taking 50mins shorter time. Hahaha. |

QUOTE(sam sam @ Mar 8 2016, 05:07 AM) We just did something similar a few days ago. Is that bus required early reservation? Took the normal train from kanazawa to takaoka station. Price was 870 yen. The bus from takaoka departing to ainokura via Johana departs at 8.10. We bought the bus pass so that we can hop on and off to along the way How frequent the bus is? I don't want to buy bus pass coz i want to stop only at ainokura and shirakawago after that going back to kanazawa. |

QUOTE(sam sam @ Mar 8 2016, 08:48 AM) Then buy the bus pass that allows return journey that's 3500 yen. Same can be bought at takaoka station. Once u stop at any 2 places the bus pas's is cheaper u can check it out U are right. One way bus pass is only 2000Y. To return to kanazawa i already booked tix bus. For Shirakawa go to head back once u arrived at shirakawago before u head for sightseeing best to book your ticket first at the terminal From takaoka the bus is not that full. If u are keen on eating, takaoka has lovely sushi from toyama bay. It's a past died city but has various sightseeing and it's great to see. If I had to redo shirakawago would have been a miss for us. Overhyped and over touristy. From kanazawa take the wajima tour would be much nicer. Between shirakawago and gokayama, which one is the bestest? Seems shirakawago got little interesting thing there. |

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Mar 8 2016, 05:51 PM) Both also best if you are 1st timer. For me old timer prefer Gokayama because peaceful. Shirakawago too many tourist. QUOTE(sam sam @ Mar 8 2016, 07:09 PM) Between ainokura and sugamu prefer ainokura I can't imagine how Shirakawa-go look like during sakura time. Somemore it is school holiday there. Abis lah. Ainokura is much higher so colder and has more snow now. It's also much quieter really far from the maddening crowds If shopping then Shirakawa go. There is nothing much to shop at ainokura. If it's washi paper only ainokura has them So hard to say which is better unless u prioritise your goals in your question |
