@Azuma-kun I won't recommend you to travel two places on one trip. Not worth the price of transportation + your time + the tiredness.
Just stay in one place per trip. It more than sufficient for you. BTW, if you are going to Tokyo, don't forget to try the one star Michelin ramen

QUOTE(numblink @ Feb 20 2016, 11:32 AM) Hi, traveling to KIX this end of month. Is it recommended to overnight at airport and travel to Kyoto next morning? My flight is arriving late. What's the cheapest way to get to Kyoto station? Around what time you will be arriving? Currently, I think cheapest will be Haruka + Icoca pass, costing you around 4k yen for round trip. If you are traveling alone, I think you can get cheap hotel or Airbnb for around 120+ Just checked the haruka icoca website, they are revising their pricing structure, so you only can make reservation for trip before 1st of March This post has been edited by look416: Feb 20 2016, 01:49 PM

QUOTE(numblink @ Feb 20 2016, 06:22 PM) I'm arriving around 10.40pm. Gonna do this KIX -> Kyoto -> Osaka -> . 5 day trip Then my recommendation is to get AirBnb nearby Kyoto Station for 1 night because you have to travel around 50 minutes from airport to Kyoto, so why dun make it at night. BTW, after 11pm, no more bus and cab rate is much more expensive. Haruka can directly stop at Kyoto station and its better to find any lodging nearby there for staying 1 night

QUOTE(fkinmeng @ Feb 22 2016, 10:33 AM) so, anyone used before visiondata pocket wife? any review/feedback? Never used visondata. Currently, I have booked travelrecommends wifi since they are doing promotion at rm15/day on my trip to Japan next month. Will do a review posting once I have tested it. But judging from the screenshot and devices, it should be either au networks or y mobile

QUOTE(fkinmeng @ Feb 22 2016, 11:52 AM) RM15/day nett? any hidden charges? Yes, RM15/day nett. No hidden charges, Unlimited data quota, but you will required to pay RM200 deposit which will be refunded later and you can collect from KLIA terminal or they will send the device to your home few days before your departure. AFAIK, there is no 2 days option for the sim card. QUOTE(zeese @ Feb 29 2016, 11:49 AM) normally, how much is the cost for return trip to tokyo? in other words, what is a safe value to allocate for flight cost in my budget? RegentCid Ask sifu, is my plan good enough for the whole day? This is just one of the day on my trips. I'm going to arashiyama and here's the plan
Arashiyama Bamboo groove -> torokko arashiyama to kameoka then back to sagano station -> walk around arashiyama area (most likely nearby tenryuji and sanjodori) and having lunch there -> ryoanji ->kinkakuji -> kitatenmangu

QUOTE(fkinmeng @ Mar 18 2016, 09:40 AM) any recommended spots to buy yamazaki or nikka whiskey? Of course, if you are going to Osaka / Kyoto, you can always opt for their distillery which is nearby Yamazaki station. They have whiskey tasting session which cost around 1.2k but rumor says that the tasted whiskey is not available in the market. You can also visit their museum for some tasting(paid) and shopping. Can't help you much if out of Kansai area Sauce : hereThis post has been edited by look416: Mar 18 2016, 10:13 AM

QUOTE(TSOM @ Mar 18 2016, 11:07 AM) when buying the JR pass online, do we need to state the date which we want to start using?? what if I'm still undecided? Require verification from other sifus. If I recall correctly, JR rail pass starts from the day you claim the ticket from the counter. Since you are just holding the voucher and exchange it into tickets from the counter, you are basically set the start date on your own.

QUOTE(tohff7 @ Mar 18 2016, 11:39 AM) don't think you could buy any 12/18-year Yamazaki in their distillery. For Yamazaki 18 year, the sure have 1 is at the airport which cost 50,000 yen a bottle. Outside of that, it near to impossible to get any 18yr Yamazaki. Even getting a 12yr Yamazaki can consider very lucky liao Nikka should be still quite easy to get. Just go to their departmental stores Don't say like that. I'm still expecting can get 12 years Yamazaki from there one in my incoming trip

QUOTE(tohff7 @ Mar 18 2016, 12:17 PM) No lar, just try to set your expectations only. If budget is not a problem, you can actually buy it online at Rakuten and ship to your hotel Where are you going btw? You have better chance to get 12/18yr in outskirt areas rather than in Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto etc. Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo. I will either buy it when I visit their distillery or at the airport going back to MY. Damn stressed, if have to carry the whiskey around when travelling, sked it will break

QUOTE(TSOM @ Mar 21 2016, 12:34 PM) the JR rail pass right, do they give any extra benefits other than the travel from city to city?? for example, can they be used within cities like Osaka or Kyoto? Do they give discount when you buy entrance tickets to certain sights? If you are going to Kyoto, you can just skip the JR rail pass. What is really good for you will be the Kansai Thru pass. JR pass will be very good if you are travelling further than that, such as Kanazawa those places

QUOTE(TSOM @ Mar 21 2016, 10:41 PM) Τhanks. I'll be flying to Tokyo and from there, I think I'll be using the JR rail pass. I only got 7 days max down south, then need to return to Tokyo. I also plan to buy a Tokyo Wide pass for 3 days to visit around Tokyo. How would you balance 7 days for Kyoto and Kansai region? Are the Himeji and Miyajima worth going? for me since this time is my first time to Kyoto I'm planning on nearby area or so called popular area. first day fushimi->Nara->uji second day arashiyama->ryoanji->kinkakuji third day amanohashidate foruth day Kyoto city Center

QUOTE(TSOM @ Mar 22 2016, 07:15 AM) I think the best (and cheap) strategy is to divide Japan into north and south. So, if you go to Kyoto and Kansai region, can get the JR Kansai pass which is way cheaper than JR pass. Then next time, visit Tokyo and buy the JR East pass. I was stupid. Didn't think about this. I bought my flights to Tokyo and now I've to move in circles. Tokyo-Kyoto then go back Tokyo again. ----------------------------------------- that Suica/Pasmo card, when return it to get back your deposit of ¥500, do we pay some admin fee? I think it should be north west east and south. north - Hokkaido west - Kansai, Kyushu south - Okinawa, Shikoku east - Tokyo ... Btw, I'm now waiting to onboard for my first trip to Japan. Hi Kyoto , here I came !!!! This post has been edited by look416: Mar 22 2016, 07:34 AM

QUOTE(kingofrave89 @ Aug 29 2016, 03:49 PM) i see, so 1 day cannot cover 2 places la. okay2. will re-adjust my plan. thanks sifu! one more thing, do anyone have use Travel Recommendation service for pocket wifi? If yes, hows the caverage n speed like yea? Thank you! I have used it for my trip to Japan this March. My review, speed is good and coverage is good as well. most of the time I can get with full speed except arashiyama, but its considerable okay since its mountain area. However, I would recommend you to get the router from them one or two day earlier before your departure. During my trip, they havent open their counter in KLIA2 yet. So, I have to wait for them to pass me the router and somehow they only reach KLIA2 one hour before my flight. Frightened me out as I thought I almost couldnt make it to my plane. BTW, their main office is around KLCC, so if you happen to be working nearby, then might as well get the router from the main office. This post has been edited by look416: Aug 30 2016, 11:22 AM
