Uncle Benny, one question for you... TQ

How are we going to flash to new firmware update if we use TWRP recovery? Do we need decrypted boot image to do so or... ?

Not too clear about this... i.e. if TWRP able to understand update.app?
*
All official firmware can only be flash with stock recovery
Use app flashify to flash recovery back to stock
Use software Huawei update extractor to extract stock recovery from the update.app. just copy the stock recovery.img file to any location in phone
You can flash any official firmware on rooted phones

[attachmentid=6322406]

Hmm.. can't find B170 in the OTA. Am i missing something or do i need to use PC to update?

Mine was 4gb version and upon switch on was prompted to update to b170

actually the official firmware can flash in TWRP, just copy the update.zip to sd card, boot into TWRP then install update.zip, after update you will lose TWRP and root so you need to flash TWRP and root again....

one annoying thing is after flashing official firmware the device will encrypt again so the TWRP won't see the internal stoarage, you need to format data and flash the decrypted boot.img....
*
I tried before but failed. Will try again next time

Updated my msian set to latest b180

Attached Image

How to update ?
Download the update.zip n extract all its contents
Create a folder dload in either internal memory or ext sdcard
Copy the extracted contents into the dload folder
Switch off phone
Press both volup, vol down n power button simultaneously
When phone starts to boot , release only power button
Once you see emui logo than only release the vol buttons
Firmware will be updated than
You could see twice reboot before phone is fully started
The update process takes about 1+ min only
All data remain intact

Im not literate in this,  just daily user.  Anyway thanks.  As per Benny step by step explaination below it seems easy.
*
The update zip is 1.43gb
After extract you should get 2.63gb
Any lower means your download is incomplete even though you can successfully extract it

Should i do this on my 3GB? I want to switch to this from my faithful note 2.
*
This is only for the 4GB model ( NXT-L29C636 ) . Do it at your own risk for the 3GB. Normally if incompatible firmware you will get a failed install right at beginning. Your phone will usually be unaffected but than again, it is a risk to try
It is safe if your 3GB model is same model number as the 4GB

In case anybody is wondering, this is the link to the B180 firmware ...

http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/fi...full/update.zip

BTW, I've been having trouble getting a completed download becoz hicloud servers are just too slow. Anybody managed to get a full download, mind uploading it into Gdrive and sharing the link? Appreciate all the help. TQ.

Correct...I use my phone mate8 LTE n got it downloaded within 2+ hours. My home wifi is horribly slow and estimated 7-8 hours! I am sorry I am unable to upload it but could assist if you send to me an ext sdcard n I can copy it over. PM me if interested. You just need pay courier charges back to you only

im just curious, anyone here ever seen 4G+ sign on your mate 8? hmm.gif
*
Saw it at Spore few days back when I was there on M1
Msian implementation of LTE+ is still weak and scattered - don't worry too much over it ! Wait for another year or more I 'd say to see any significant changes from the telco coverage

Firmware b180 : you guys noticed any significant improvements. I don't see anything significant yet. However I noted doze doesn't seem to work as well as before but too early to make any conclusion about it yet. Need several days more to observe

Planning to buy mate 8, but notice that huge different in term of price between Gem5 and Lazada.
I.E. Mocha 4RAM+64G sold in Gem5 RM2289 and after discount only cost RM2009.

Is it original set?

Anyone can ur experience with Gem5?
*
Just do a search and you will find MANY users here had bought their phones from GemFive with big discount

Absolutely no notification issues on even b170 firmware. i am now on b180
Whatsapp too no lag or photo problems. I am quite a heavy WA user recieving more than 100+ messages a day with lots of pics n videos
I disable all those irritating messages of app using higher battery usage. To me such are totally unnecessary warning. The phone battery life by default is already excellent

All this while since first original firmware, both my China and M'sian set NEVER EVER show the 3G/4G sign at all when I am on wifi !! It doesn't bother me as I'd be using the wifi than. When I switched off the wifi, than only the 3G/4G appears only

The only issue i have with the atock sp is sensitivity issue
*
I had never like any form of SP on phones
Will definitely take off the supplied one once it shows scratches
I still much prefer the naked glass
I had zero experience with any scratches on all my present n past phones past 8 years. Only the Xperia series I installed a SP due to its easily scratched anti shatter film

Free ram after clear task remains 2gb+-  normal ? 64gb/4gb ram version...
*
You must be new to Android
In Android, Google says Ram is meant to be used and any unused ram is wasted ram
So DON"T ever bother with how much ram you had left. Just allow the OS to manage it
Even 3GB is already a lot of ram, what more if you already have 4GB ??
If you are a Windows user, don't think Ram as in Windows !!
And NEVER EVER install any of those so called ram managers, memory manager app , auto task killers - all these are bullshit apps only. Overall it will make your phone worser in long term

Hmmm. Seems this mate 8 also relatively buggy sweat.gif

Not sure if its wise to dump my note 5 for this baby hmm.gif
*
What buggy ? Just because one user complain ??
A few complains doesn't make it a fact unless every other user confirm too they faced such issues
If you read XDA there are even users complaining of bad battery life ? Seriously simply unbelievable
Sometimes phone issues are due to other app incompatibility. As this phone OS is MM don't be surprised many 3rd party app especially system utility app aren't that fine tune yet
Also we do not know what type of app each user had installed n the source of his app??
