I suggest you check Merc forum
http://www.mybenz.org/

Rather than getting answers from /k/ forumers which never owned one and telling you don't buy one.

Bro, mybenz forum got plenty of info. Its just that their forum setup a bit weird.

U need to change their sorted thread from 100 days to from the beginning.

I drive one on a daily basis cause I don't have money to buy a new car.

1. RON89 above no problem, I think the book got write. Lazy to take it out and snap photo. Use Ron95, 97 will just waste your money.
2. Compressor won't spoil. Ask any mechanic, it will outlive your turbos. But its hella noisy engine with the compressor.
3. I put aside 10K a year (reserves) for major and minor fixes. Never broke the budget yet. 2k for 4x tires, 500+ per service (6 litre engine oil), I even changed whole air conditioning system within 2 years (normal wear and tear for the model, 6-7K).
4. My FC is 10l/100KM and I like to accelerate quite a bit (70% highway, 30% city). The consumption does better than my wife's Preve.
5. I send the car to my trusty mechanic, really experienced guy. My car is most of the time too cold. I like the way it is.
6. 26k So cheap. Top overhaul may cost you 5K (if not major issue). 15K+ if full overhaul can happen if multiple problems here and there. But generally not much problems from the generic Mercedes engine.

PM me if you need more information.

CLK!!!! Naisss!

good input ... i shld have known ur mech earlier

Anyways TS, 2001 to 2015 is 14 yr old car, coming by to 15 ...

There's only 1 thing for you to check ...
- CAR BODY (no rust, no major accident etc)

Prepare around RM5k to 6k to re-do interior (dashboard panels, odometer, steering, leather seats, door panels, roof wraps etc)
Prepare around RM5k to 6k for exterior (paint job, rubber seals on windows, plastic panels, bodykit rubber seals etc)
Prepare another RM5k to 6k for AC and engine .. go seal the heater unit hose ... top overhaul shld be sufficient.
Prepare another RM6k to 8k for undercarriage (suspension, links, joints, arms, brakes and exhaust piping)

and there you go ... can last another 10yrs ...

OMG... the heater unit hose, same gen models all got that annoying issue.
I still love this car more than the 407 at home. But damn, the seats soo flat sad.gif
Wanted to redo seats for 900 each (front). Make them more plush. But didnt do it cause I am too cheap, plus i dont know how it affects the airbags. If airbags pewpewpew from seats then sure they spoil something...

har ... sensor under the seats ... confirm ... dont simply do ... and 15 yrs of age confirm those foam inside or whatever material will be compressed and it feels soft ... fix that as well

the hose is quite problematic ... once sealed no turning back but it's better than feel the warm air of the AC before cool air kicks in.

if 2001 avantgarde make sure ur electronic seats are still working ... else there's no manual way of adjusting ...

normally odometer shld be dead by now ... some panels will be pitch black or missing lights ... some seller remove ABS LED to prevent lighting up in panel coz of problems. what u can do is send to big MB garages and scan it thru, u can see all sorts of error there and then.

good luck man

Ok if u plan to skip, pls skip partially, imagine you have nice tinting film and it got ruined by window panel rubbers... Lines will appear and damages the film ... Water might find a way in too.

Hmmmm i cant say much in kompressors coz mine was a turbo but i also driven an e280 NA to kuala besut .. The power is there but fc really omg... So by right kompressor should save u some petrol but all depends ur driving style ...

My full tank diesel few yrs back can do KL - SG (drive around inside) - KL ... But now cant alrdy ... The older it gets the fc gone terribad unless i wanna do full overhaul ... If thats the case i'll get a petrol engine halfcut rather than fixing the diesel engine.

Reason why u shld not buy old merz with diesel engines...

Some Parts are quite rare (alternator water cooled)

Our diesel sucks until recently but over the years damage has been done to the green engine ...

I sold my ride alrdy but definitely will get my hands on a merz if it permits in the future. An old S class maybe ...
