QUOTE Auto Bavaria (AB) officially opened the doors of the first BMW i showroom and service centre in Malaysia this evening. The i dealership is part of AB’s large downtown KL facility along Jalan Tun Razak, close to the Ampang Park/Intermark junction.
Occupying 1,383 sq.ft. on the first floor of AB KL, the BMW i showroom features the sub-brand’s identity, furniture and fittings. The space houses a display unit of the BMW i8 and the BMW i Wallbox wall-mounted charging accessory for the car.
“Customers of the BMW i8 can be rest assured that our BMW i centre will offer excellent day to day support for their BMW i vehicle. This includes service and maintenance appointments as well as vehicle repairs and on the road assistance, with a dedicated mobile charging device for owners courtesy of our BMW i Mobile Care Centre,” said Jeffrey Gan, MD of AB.
AB KL has a dedicated team to serve BMW i customers, who can also visit any BMW dealership and find qualified personnel to handle the i8, BMW Group Malaysia MD and CEO Alan Harris assured. He declined to reveal how many units of the RM1,188,800 car have been sold in Malaysia, just saying that the limited allocation for Malaysia has been fully accounted for. Launched at the BMW World Malaysia 2015 event in April, the BMW i8 is powered by a 1.5 litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 231 hp and 320 Nm of torque sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox. A liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery juices up an electric motor that produces 131 hp and 250 Nm for the front wheels. In total, the i8 has 362 hp and 570 Nm, good for a 0-100 km/h time of 4.4 seconds. This hybrid powertrain won the 2015 International Engine of the Year award.
The i8 will be living alone in KL for the time being, as the i3 hatchback won’t be joining it anytime soon. Harris said that it’s necessary to have charging infrastructure in place, and that’s something BMW Malaysia is currently talking with the government and related agencies about. “Once that comes, we will consider bringing in the i3,” he said.
In August, BMW Malaysia announced that it was working together with GreenTech Malaysia to offer i8 customers access to the latter’s ChargEV public charging services and facilities over the coming year. With that price, better just buy 2 or 3 tesla electric cars, much cheaper and never use oil again. I predict bmw getting into trouble soon, just like VW.

GT now only have 2 units model s here. unknown timeline leasing to govt agency and GLC... yeah! i posted its sad to see our JPJ dont have any framework cater for electric car section QUOTE KUALA LUMPUR, May 18, 2015:
Around 120 Tesla electric cars will be deployed here by year-end for official use of government-linked companies (GLCs), courtesy of Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (MGTC).
In a statement, Tesla Corp said it will officially launch its brand new Model S70D and Model S85 in Malaysia later this year, in partnership with MGTC.
Private car buyers looking to own a Tesla will probably have to wait until 2016, said the US-based sports car producer.
Tesla said the cars would be made available by way of a leasing scheme for a two-year period by MGTC.
They will likely be provided to GLCs as official cars, with maintenance to be handled by MGTC.
Tesla said MGTC leasing out these electric cars is to enable policy makers, as well as concerned stakeholders, to understand the benefits of electric vehicles – letting them sample the technology of electric mobility.
MGTC chief executive officer Ahmad Hadri Haris reportedly said the operating range and size of the Tesla cars were key in making the decision.
“Tesla Motors was the only vehicle that meets the parameters that MGTC has established for the programme.” Ahmad Haris said the sedan type and overall disposition suited the use of the Model S as official cars.
“The 400km range is enough for most of the requirements and no other electric vehicle fulfilled what was needed in an official car.”
While the leasing costs have not been finalised, Ahmad Haris reportedly said the cost will be in the range of RM6,000 per month.
The Tesla Model S70D retails for about US$71,000 (RM252,650) while the Model S85 goes for US$85,000 at list prices. http://www.therakyatpost.com/business/2015...t-official-use/not this ?

QUOTE(Gion @ Nov 27 2015, 12:15 PM) Yes, what reported vs actual progress is different. Tesla mode of operation is via direct selling to end users. GT is allowed by Tesla with intention of rising EV awareness in Msia. that's y only leasing for govt agency n GLC... FYI, Tesla US setup Tesla Thailand not long ago... conclusion: Tesla is not our ordinary car maker / seller... they control everything from A-Z. no dealer, no AP seller...
