I love these kind of discussions. It helps me plan my upgrade path as a newly born again cyclist biggrin.gif

For fatani case, i assume the shifting of claris fd *8spd* on i assumed a 10 spd drive train will be dodgy ya?

If it was me, i'd just get myself at least tiagra fd to be safe

Fd should be no problem whether it is 8,9 or 10 speed..it only shift between two chainrings. I use the claris on my 20 speed setup with no problem. Not as critical as the rd, which is where the 8,9,and 10 speed is. smile.gif
*
True that, but i'm referring more towards the 10 speed chain being narrower for the 8 speed FD/8 speed chain that is meant for it. When you upgrade your shifters to a higher grade hence more sensitive, as sifu etigge mentioned the limiter adjustment for the bigger FD might not be enough. More chance of introducing chain rubs.

In any case, hope you don't mind to update when its all up. rclxms.gif

Want to gauge the market before heading to my LBS.

Here are the pictures from my last ride. Although I recce with an mtb, the route is very possible for foldies as all are mini tarmac, except for a short stretch about a few hundred meters leading to the 2.5 kilometer Pulau Bunting bridge. Took a train to Gurun, Komuter reached at about 7.15am, started from Taiping at 5.37am. There's a nasi lemak stall open at that time on the right hand side just after the train station.

At the base of G.Jerai, where many roadbikers and mtbers start their ride up to G.Jerai, we took the mini tarmac kampong road towards the coastline. All the roads inside the paddy fields are tarmac as well. When you reach the ccoastline, the mini tarmac continues on for 7 or 8 kilometers, passing by many local fishing post or 'pengkalan' and one of them have mee udang stall. Then carry on until you see a small offroad on the left and this will lead to the bridge.

After crossing and return (5 kilometers), you can either take small roads or hit the main roads back to Gurun. I rode to Guar Chempedak for lunch before heading back to the GUrun railway station. For those interested in the route I took, here,

From KL, you need to bag your foldie and take the Intercity ETS to Gurun. Easy. Else, you can take Intercity to Taiping, ride in Taiping, ronda ronda, stay a night and then take Komuter to Gurun the next morning. First service starts at 5.37 am and every 90 minutes , there's another. Need to change train in Bukit Mertajam. 'Leceh' a bit, carry the bike over the next platform to change train.

The northern riders have more fun here. When I was doing the ride, I saw so many cyclist, especially road bikers doing day ride to Thailand. They just bring their passport and they can reach Padang Besar by 8.00 am and then ride into Thailand and still came back in the late afternoon and catch the train back to Butterworth or Taiping.

That's correct. When you purchase a new chain , it is usually 116 links, they calculate the inner links as one link as well. On my MTB with long cage and 42T biggest chain ring, I cut 2 links away, in your description that's one link. On my folding bike, I cut away 4 links ( 2 links , in your description ) with 53T biggest chain ring.

This is the position of my RD cage. Another tip, I use 11 speed chain on my 10 speed setup. Recommended by the lbs here. Was skeptical initially but it really is more quiet with less chain rub on the FD cage and also cassette cogs as well. Also, 11 speed chain is getting cheaper than the 10 speed chain nowadays, Don't know why ? blink.gif

From what i gather correct me if i'm wrong, 11 speed versus 10 speed chain. The difference is while the chain pitch is the same, the extension of the roller pins to the outside of the outer link plates has decreased but the internal roller width stays the same. So lesser chain rub. As for cheaper, less material used? hmm.gif Good to know tho. thumbup.gif I might try a 10 speed versus 11 speed on my 9 speed drive train. hehheh.. or should i just go for 11 spd?

I assume you bought this because you can't be bothered to walk around Giant/name your park ya? bangwall.gif

How do you recharge this? wall plug? Portable battery? console.gif

I'm sorry but the whole point of bicycling is to "engage in physical activities" unless you have health reason or unable to move around that i understand... but dang...

Your money to spend i supposed nod.gif

old version use those pin connectors  sweat.gif

310/100 already changed to micro usb, but lots of reported cases where that micro usb just pop out after using for some period of time.

latest 330/530 havent heard this usb issue yet, but seems the distance data is not accurate, compared to other gps devices of different brands. this is based on reviews on the net.

I have not heard of this usb issue. Our group bulk buys a few times. None reported this. I have my own 310 too. No issue yet. You prolly only charge maybe once a week? or slightly more if you hardcore biggrin.gif

glad to hear that. my comments were based on user reviews (amazon,fb,forums). seems like a common problem for those models (loose charging ports).

i c&p few of the many comments on amazon on 310

Complete product failure after 10 uses. After making a six-hour charge with original USB cord the unit will only stay on for 1 second! As a brand new product, Bryton has much to learn about quality control and design engineering. After I wrote to Bryton Support they notified me that the internal connector from the USB port to the battery is failing on many units.
Please see additional Amazon review for identical product failure: "kimR on April 28, 2016".
From Bryton "the USB connector were weaken and could be peeled off from the unit which caused the charge would not hold."

"USB port broke loose after 4 months of use. It's now useless as it can't upload data or even charge. This looks to be a common problem for this new product. Bryton customer service is unreachable and/or unresponsive via email and there's no telephone number."

"after 15 uses, the usb connector inside the Bryton came loose.... did not read on computer.... chinsey parts"

"This computer was really great when I first received. It had a great battery life as noted, but by the second time I had to charge it the USB port had come loose like so many other people have said in their review. I wish I had looked closer to them before purchasing."
in my view, the qc in those models are probably non existent. same like buy proton. if you get the good one, then u'r lucky. so, it's quite risky buy.

Don't know why.... but we had 3 bulk buys 10 each since last year? Most recent was 3 months ago? No one reported faulty usb. Who plug to computer nowadays... BT to phone and walla! straight to strava, No fiddling... bulk buy can be had for under 300 i think.

i charge after every ride due to habit mostly. But i've used it for a week without charging. Granted i don't ride hours on end every single day. But i try 3-4 rides a week.
