Ahh, thank you. That will do too. I can get long bolt no problem. My mechanic will have such tools.

Remember to grease the lining. Any metal to metal contact needs to be greased for ease of taking out in future.

What about the wheels? Did u get from taobao as well or get it locally?
I am eye-ing on the cr-mo FGC 1609, but seems like 349 wheelset is quite easy to get here.

The quote from taobao seller is is frameset+wheelset is RM400 cheaper than complete bike.
I will prefer to built by myself as i have some parts at home as well. But with that price diff i'm thinking to just get a complete bike.

Also what do u think for the frame? does it come with some ugly/uneven welding? a quick search at china forum say some of the frame is badly welded.

Btw, is fnhon frame familiar with dahon (e.g. the diameter and length)
*
dont know it is true or not, but i heard fnhon worker is a dahon ex-worker.

well, the build is good and i manage to get 9kg bike without any carbon parts!

after add on meters, pump, tube, tyre liver, front and rear light the bike weight just only 9.5kg. still consider to put my litepro doublekick stand weight for 600g or not laugh.gif

wheelset also i bought direct there for rm300 only..can get easy here?all i can see only wheelsport 349 that cost like a bomb!

my friend had the fgc1609,
well build, solid frame and classy look and heavy thanks to the chromoly frame with no welding defect. riding on it feel good, stiff and not too harsh compare to mine on bad roads condition (its chromoly and absorb road vibration, feels like im riding on my speed p8)

oh ya, if u pedal like a climber racer the fgc1609 wont suite u coz the frame are not the best when climbing becoz of the design with no seatstay (can u? laugh.gif). but for commuting, and leisure fun ride i think its ok.

do remember the frame wont accept any fd unless u custom made it under the seatclamp. my friend build the bike with sram dual drive hub and it gets enough gearing to conquer any road. weight?dont ask, the hub itself already heavy!

this review is based on my true personal expiriece testing my friend fgc1609 bcoz i had the same dillema either chosing the fgc1609 or ka1618 zephyr before.

Sorry that was a typo. I wanted to say it's hard to get here bangwall.gif bangwall.gif
Mine if you share me the link?

But frameset RM800, Wheelset RM300, Complete bike RM1500, seems like a no brainer to go straight for complete bike. hmm.gif hmm.gif

Oh ya 1 more, did u use the forwarder or taobao official shipping? How much is your shipping cost?

No seatstay means harder to climb or not tough enough to climb?
This will be mainly for commuting and leisure ride, but probably i will use this to join some group ride as well...
No FD is fine. I survived with Dahon eezz D3 3 speeds for 1 years and ride at KL. Even datuk bandar or kenny hills can climb also. slow only...
so with this 9 speeds i think should be ok for me...

I missed my foldie after selling off to my fren. Everytime go pasar malam need to drive very pek cek la...

ur eez got seatstay but dont have chainstay. not so tough i mean when climb (err, its hard to explain technically as im not much as technical person).

nevertheless, u cant even notices much if pedalling below 30kmh on shorter distance.. worry less lah, get it fast that frame. as i recall, i have 2 of my friend using the fgc1609 frame. one is at kuala selangor and one more here in ipoh.

Don't be afraid to try the SRAM dual drive unit. The gears changes beautifully, much better than FD.
Yes, it is slightly heavier, but you have so many gears to choose from!
I believe SRAM will stop production of all its hub gears which is a shame. This and the Imotion3 are my favourites.

There's still 3 sets here available at the old price. This LBS ordered 10 sets many years ago and still has 3 sets remaining. Can be modded onto 8.9 or 10 speed bikes, folding or touring bikes. Effectively converting your 8, 9 or 10 speed into 24,27 or 30 speed. The 3 speed hub gears can be changed smoothly without slowing down your strokes.

Depending on riders, whichever way they want to add gears. I was tempted to actually, for the curiousity and fun of it , lace one set onto my folding bike converting it to 2 x 10 x 3 .......Making it 60 speed.........hahahaa , sounds ridiculous huh tongue.gif but the LBS shop owner said , he actually did one unit 2 x 9 x 3, like 54 speed. Wonder how the ratio is like, I mean the gear inches hmm.gif Anyway I don't ride the folding bike nowadays so I gave up the idea.

If you like internal geared hub, You may also find CVT type NuVinci hub attractive. Infinite steps (which make 60 speed looks like child play…) to dial in your cadence, completely silent gear change. Change gear while stationary, during hard padeling, no chain rubbing…etc etc and no exposed cogs... Well it actually runs on balls not gears… it even has auto transmission option… damn

For someone who don't read chinese like me, is it easy to search for frame in Taobao? Or if you don't mind can you share some tips or links?

Hi.

I am looking for foldie for my wife, budget set at around 1.5k
I come across with Java Fit and Dahon Vybe D7 2017 which fall under my budget, anyone can provide some explanation what is the important thing I should concern?
Java Fit is Shimano Sora 18 speed while Dahon Vybe is Shimano Revo 7 speed.

Is 7 speed sufficient? My wife is not a cyclist and not so good in physical activity, feel free to name me other model that falls within my budget.

Thanks so much!

Dahon "American branded made in China"
Java "China brand made in China"
If you are those who swear never buying proton, Dahon is your bike.
If you value function over brand, buy the Java fit.

*PS, Dahon boss is a Hong Kong born American…

I'm not a brand guy, I want it to be usable and durable and doesn't need to upgrade anytime soon, of course there need to be sparepart available if anything spoiled.
Is 18 speed sora good to go for foldie? Because for rb, sora groupset is a no go. Anything else I should take into consideration?

Is the bike usable for touring as well? I plan to carry the bike with me while on local road trip. It is a fun activity to do I think,

Don't think too much. 1.5k only get you so far.
