Buy a Game Boy Advance SP. It comes in a clamshell design so it won't break easily and the screen won't get scratched easily. Don't buy a ds or a psp a 6 year old won't know how to take care of them and their pricy. A Game boy advance SP is a good buy for a 6 year old. You buy game cartridges(game paks) to play games . Originals can cost up to RM200 but don't worry, check your pms 5 minutes later. ill tell you something.Nintendo ds costs around RM600.GBA=RM300

=_=

If you can afford it, get a DS Lite. RM 550.
Games are RM90-RM180. Second hands cost much cheaper, please do visit our Chamber of Commerce to trade games.

Um did you see he was going to give this present to a 5 year old!I think 5 years old will use too much pressure on the touch screen and will damage it. And 5 year olds only like to play movie games one, so no need to buy such a fragile console like ds lite or psp.

true. most of the kids use gbasp. most of them get it to play pokemon series with their friends. whenever asked for recommendation for young kids, i always ask them to get gbasp. if possible the birghter version so its easier to see.

Gameboy Advance uses catridge. The memory card thingy you mention is not worth it for kids. As it requires certain knowledge.
Besides, the games for Advance is not expensive. You can get it at around 50 ringgit.
One pokemon game can last a kid of weeks.

I would suggest you get a GBA SP for the kid and a pokemon game with it.

DSlite is not worth it as it is more expensive and the games are expensive too. Not to mention there is no Pokemon game specifically for DSL yet. English poke game that is.

I'd agree with you, but seeing that the GBA line is already in its ending stage, I suppose a DS would be a better option. Plus, the next Pokemon main RPG line is already out for DS anyway.

Worth it or not, we have one issue in hand. Adults are having difficulty taking care of a DS. What do you think will happen to a ds given to a kid?

You do have a point come to think of it.

@_@ When it comes to this question I'm now totally confused on what to decide on.

buy him some books to read... giving him a GBA SP might spell trouble for school grades especially when he's just starting out.

Just my 2 cents... I say this coz I've seen my nephews' grades go down the drain no thanks to gaming.

Well, sometimes you gotta restrict the amount of play-time a child can get..

I don't know what kids want these days, but I do see alot of kids holding on to GBA advance/SP's.. have no idea what they're playing.. Most likely something like Pokemon and Megaman Battle Network..

So what I'm trying to say is.. A GBA should do the trick, just get a nice game to go along with it, or not the GBA will be thrown down the thrash..

And oh, there's this neat little game called "Warioware: Twisted".. I think that should be fun for his age.. Something like RM150 last I checked from Gamers Hideout.. Nintendo counter may have a few units too.

As I said, if he can afford it, why not? Teach him how to use it properly, and I think the touch features are great at training his brain and reflexes.

5 year olds are smart these days.
What about 12 year olds + XBOX360? wink.gif

My first machine was GBC, then i got myself a GBA after selling off my GBC. I trade in the first GBA i got for a better looking GBA.
When GB SP came out i wanted to buy but didnt. Then i discover the wonderful world of RO. From there i stopped console... 4 years down the line and here i am playing a NDS after so long playing online gaming.

Wow he plays a lot of games the mom doesn't restrict him at all blink.gif
Um his mom must have a reason not buying games for him it seems to me he plays games a lot and mom's very scared he gets addicted(um wait he already is sad.gif ) so she doesn't buy games for him.( I think she doesn't buy games for him since you say you goin to buy game boy for him but thats suppose to be mom's decision) Also mom might be worried that his studies might go down the drain(this happens to a lot of students).

They say the boy is smart enough to take care of a lite. I'm 12 and having trouble taking care of it. I dropped it once and i now have the Crack hinge.
