I have a question: If anyone incl your family members are aware of your edc, and they're far from having positive response (as my edc has knives and MT), what would you do/how to convince them that edc is not something intimidating?
PS: my edc is way far from being takticool smh |

QUOTE(tescogot @ Feb 24 2017, 02:37 PM) just tell them it's a hobby good for you and your parents, my parents are afraid of me being caught in a legal situation against me while i'm carrying my gearits just a tool just like any other instrument show them your other edc gear other than your knives like pen or flashlight and such for sure it'll take time for them to understand or perhaps they refuse to understand altogether im sure my parents already knew about my knife collections but so far they had said nothing bad about it I can't blame them for being so, as I'm the only child in the family right now I can only classified my gears from them, so they won't know what did I bought at a given time |

QUOTE(tescogot @ Apr 11 2017, 04:54 PM) yes, due to the fact that it's a stainless steel tri-arm spinner, and uses r188 sized stainless steel bearingsadly the bearing was permanently attached with the bearing retention the way I saw it sanrenmu 7098 is actually a jack of all trades in tight budget, it can go through edc usage, but don't expect it to be even a kershaw cryo. non locking (just a ball bearing-clamp mechanism), off center when closed, non assisted...the good is it uses decent sandvik steel and can be a multitool to reduce public suspicion |

Since Malaysia is also starting to join the fidget spinner hype, consider this as a follow-up after my purhacse at Taobao and a product review.
The brand is RM fidget spinner, in Chinese, 戎马 (Rong Ma), click here to view the taobao product page. They have the option to add tritium vial grooves on the arms (tritium vials not included). I bought a tri-arm, stainless steel version of it, without the optional tritium vial grooves, to match with my edc colour scheme which is mostly black and silver colour. Along with other fidget spinner brands with similar designs, RM fidget spinner is a knockoff of the UK-made Rotablade Stubby, but much, much cheaper and available for the regular people compared to the original version. Rotablade used to have a Tri-Stubby, but it was nowhere to be found in the Rotablade website, probably sold out for now. It uses an R188 stainless steel bearing, and after my inspection, the bearing is indeed REMOVABLE, as opposed to my ignorant comment about the bearing being permanently attached to the bearing retention yesterday. The complete disassembly of the RM fidget spinner: The spinner is about 5.2 cm in diameter, 1.3 cm at the highest point (self measurements) and 120 g (according to Taobao website). It is quite difficult to perform a one-handed power spin with it, due to its weight and the sharp edges along the end of the arms. My particular spinner has a groove (possibly machining error). Besides, the screw caps, when screwed to the spinner, wobbles slightly if attempted to tilt left and right. The seller said that's normal to have some very narrow clearance between the caps' axle and the bearing (Can clarify to me? I'm not into machining). Nevertheless, due to this narrow clearance that will cause minor wobbling, coupled with the whirring sound made by the steel bearing during spin, the spinner produces a turboprop-like sound when put into a table spin, gooding yo! Now for its performance. As I told @tescogot, my first straight-outta-box table spin clocks at 8 min 16 sec, currently clock from 6 to 8 min. Here's the proof of the 1st table spin time: I didn't time my hand spin time (one or both-handed) because I'm already impressed with the table spin time. Spinning time wise, I considered it good already. If there is no wobbling of the screw caps and I had replaced the bearing into R188 hybrid or full ceramic bearing, I predict the table spin time will be above 10 minutes no sweat. Verdict: Recommended to buy, if you understand Chinese and the procedures of Taobao, and you wanna have a taste with metallic spinners that have a good spinning time and a different design compared to the Torqbar knockoffs and the plastic spinners we saw everywhere. There are other similar alternatives in Aliexpress, but significantly fewer options when compared to Taobao. TLDR: RM fidget spinner, click this to see more at Taobao, replacable R188 stainless steel bearing, long spin time, slight wobble at the screw cap, less suitable for one-handed power spin, two handed is no problem. |

QUOTE(yindragon @ Apr 17 2017, 10:52 PM) Being wise about carrying a knife even a small plastic one; the best way is to educate people, never show it off randomly and use it as only as you have intended and other than that those blade should never seen public sunlight, I carry a CRKT Sting for self-defense purpose and I never show it off. Thanks for your concern, my knife and MT is usually carried in my backpack, seldom edc my knife in my pocket nowOther EDC are more acceptable than the others, having trouble finding good pepper spray anymore and ACE Hardware cost a fortune for it. Those darn mata... For self defense, I rotate through my Zebra F-701 and Olight S1R |

QUOTE(yindragon @ Apr 22 2017, 02:27 AM) Carrying your knife in your backpack when you might need it (e.g: when you are alone and walking through a dark area) might defeat the purpose of carrying one (correct me if I am wrong here), you might as well carry a pepper spray or your flashlight ready in hand unless the knife is not intended to be a self defense weapon. My knife (sanrenmu 7098, without saw) is not and never intended to be a self defense tool, due to it lacks assisted opening and legal constraint against usage of folding knives for self defenseThat being said, self defense weapon can be anything; from keys to straight aim at the groin (sorry guys... BTW, did you practise to with your flashlight for self defense? No, I didn't practice with my pen and torch, because both are expected to be used after delay tactics, and only when necessary. Flee is always my 1st choice should that situation arose. |

QUOTE(yindragon @ Apr 22 2017, 03:02 AM) Self defense is not to cause any wound or draw blood, it is used to make your enemy flinch and widen the gap between you and the assailant, you must always be alert and have a fair judgment to see if you can out run the assailant or not since there might be more than one or you are not confident enough to outrun them. Oops, I need to rephrase my previous reply:The reason I ask is because bright light might blind the attacker in a dark place when shine right at their eyes but it might blind you as well unless you are train to dodge or blink for that couple millisecond so you can flee instantly or pepper spray them. I have a collection of Surefire flashlight and I learn how to do tactical blinding and it save my life once. I don't practice with my pen and torch regularly, like every day |
