Mine arrived at my forwarding destination, but I'm having them modded (to use the Audeze style mini-XLR connectors), they're on the way to my vendor in the States right now, or I'd have them by this week.

Thanks tongue.gif Brandon Peterek, over at headfi. One of my contacts in the States recommended him. You can see some of the other stuff he's done here

There's a few TH-X00 mods there as well. At the same time asked him to test it for me, so if any issue can RMA it directly before shipping back rclxms.gif

May I ask how much does he charge for the conversion? Besides fitting the TH-X00 earcups fitted with mini XLR connectors, are you converting the existing cables as well or got entirely new cables terminated for balanced XLR connection (I assume)?
*
I already have my own upgrade cables from MIT and DHC, actually not planning to keep the stock cable, might reterminate it and give it to a friend. As for the prices, he quoted me in USD, but better talk to him directly on what you need. PM me if you would like his email

EDIT: That's the reason I went with the mini-XLR, already have good cables at home, so can repurpose them as needed.

Damn son, should've done like you did. Never mind for now I'll have to be content with the stock cable. never knew Peterek does this, I thought he only did cables.

Have you been following the thread? Do you have any earpads incoming?
*
The Brainwavz earpads will be arriving in KL tomorrow. Can play with them on the HE400S I bought for my fiancé in the meantime. The Fostex I wasn't planning on changing the earpads, my ears ain't that huge, but later I'll decide where to use the earpads, the TH-X00 or the HE400S

Also next time ask la, if you're getting the same stuff. Who knows we might have some interesting ideas to share tongue.gif

The Earpads interchangeable between fostex and hifiman?
*
To make it permanent, will probably need to do some Frankenstein-like operation, the 400S is different from the other HE headphones, as the mounting ring is non-removable. Worst case I'll just get another set of mounting rings for 10 dollars tongue.gif

Nevermind. Thanks anyway. I was tempted to jump on the bandwagon but the non-interchangeable cables held me back. Never came across my mind to have the cups replaced with mini XLRs. That would have probably made me poorer.  sweat.gif
*
Even if you spend RM1 you're poorer than you were before bro tongue.gif But I think it's worth it, the stock cable looks like it's too long and unwieldy, and all those expensive cables sitting around unused. Thinking of having the stock cable reterminated for the HE-400S with balanced 3.5mm, but see if any of my friends want it first.

Wah. I wish I had expensive cables lying around...  biggrin.gif

I should have elaborated further and mentioned that because I did not think of having the cups modified to mini XLRs, that saved me from getting the TH-X00. If I had discovered about the possibility of changing to mini XLRs, I would have succumb to the temptation and would definitely have made me poorer. No thanks to the exchange rates.
*
In this hobby, sometimes nothing can save you. It was too late for me ever since I first read about prototypes of the TH-X00 being shown at shows tongue.gif

Some Headfi users noted the DHL website was down yesterday. My last entry was "attempting delivery" made yesterday lunchtime.
*
Nah, the website was fine, I've been tracking two other deliveries on and off the whole day. And ok la, later I go buy number tongue.gif
Edit: also wasted, 1161 is so close to 1138, wonder who got that one

Probably they were like no updates for 5 days and hitting refresh every hour. "Eh website is down!"

Why 1138? Lucky number? Cina is "everyday live rich" haha.
*
Much more ordinary reasons, I'm afraid tongue.gif Have a read

Hope they organise another drop soon. Currently about 3k requests for it. Massdrop has a hand in manufacturing it so they might have a say in having another drop sooner than later.

Quite a number of ppl selling full price at Headfi. One guy even tried selling for USD500.
*
I hope this time round these requesters actually join the drop, instead of sitting on the fence like last time. Also, I wasn't sure if the request counter reset after the drop ended, there was like 1k requests before it even started tongue.gif

And I like to think of it not so much as pimped-out, as convenient. Have you seen the Fostex TH-900 MK.ii? Did we really need another connector type for high end headphones? >.>

Haven't read about it, but are you serious a new connector type! Enough lor...
*
Have a look:

The TH-900 Mk 2

And an unbalanced cable

I might target a used TH-900 Mk.1 if a well priced used set goes on sale (either in the US or Japan). But will decide after I finally get the TH-X00 tongue.gif

really hope that it will sound better, esp the mids, after burn in. i'm not a believer of driver burn-ins but many ppl on headfi are saying this, so fingers crossed.   hmm.gif
*
The only burn-in that I've ever really believed is with my Sony ZX2 after I first got it (very noticeable, even for untrained ears), never really with any headphones. But as you say, many have been mentioning a difference (especially the oft-quoted "tightening" of the bass, and improvement of detail resolution) that I can't wait to try it myself.

Some were suggesting specific music genres and volumes as well, but I'll just do the same as I did with my ZX2 "burn-in" while actually listening to music I like tongue.gif

EDIT: Nice write-up in the meantime though, very detailed.
