I'm using Sphinx 2b and no problem with fingerprint sensor. Few things I missed about official China rom are more options in themes and able to change the system font easily from setting page

You might need to revert back to MIUI 7.1.6.0(LHNCNCK) because as you said, the problem only occurred after you update to 7.1.8. I am still using 7.1.6 and no problem at all with fingerprint sensor
