Hi guys,

Doing some house reno atm, and have been given an option to create a network point from downstairs, where the router is, to the hall upstairs. I'm trying to be cheapo and save money lah, so not sure if I just use Homeplugs ( there should be 3 phase wiring, but some TP-Link ones supposedly can be used on 3 phase already), I'll get a reasonable performance from online gaming/PS4 Spotify/IPTV?

Any gurus out there can help?

Even though power plug can work on 3 phase, remember that home plug typical speed is usually 10% of advertised speed and might go up to 30% if you're lucky. Eg: buy a 1200Mbps home plug, typical speed 120Mbps.

speaking from experience, while the latency and stability is better than 2.4Ghz wifi most of the time, it does suffer from an issue - Electrical Noise. if you have any motorized devices running such as fan and washing machine, it could cause network instability or disconnection.

It is still better to run the cables if you want to save yourself from the hiccups.

If you got the chance to run LAN cables during renovation, just do it.
Physical LAN wires is much better and stable than other alternative solutions like homeplug or wifi.
