Hi Guys,

I need some help here. I thinking of buying a 96 (A) Civic from an auction sale. The price is less than 20K. The exterior and interior looks great. The engine looks good and the sound of the engine is good as well.

Since i'm not allowed to test drive the car, i don't know the true condition of the engine. I guess I need to (and willingly) spend some money for checks and repairs. I have a budget around 10K for repairs

I need to ask some question.

1. How do you know it's a VTEC engine or not (sorry noob here). FYI there is not VTEC written on the engine.
2. What are the parts that usually need replacement for used civic.
3. In case I need to change the engine how much should a half cut engine cost
4  Should I but this car?
5. Should I bring a mechanic to inspect the car. Can they inspect it without test drive or open up some of the part of the engine.

Taikor sekalian, if i wanna get a weekend car to play with which is the better choice? EG? EK? or DC2? I'm bored with my puny 1.5 vtec d.

But how much is the DC2 now ler? looking for something cheap as weekend car. If too expensive means have to sell my Jazz. But then sell my '05 jazz for an old DC2. HHmmm........
