Getting Started

|
Dear LYN master,
I start to love this forum lo. Those members reply very fast. SO, is it good to improve the forum? I really hope. Please upgrade to either IPB 2.2 or vBulletin 3.6.4 le. They both very good, more feature than what IPB 2.0 have now.
Since LYN have such high clicks everyday, leader should get quite a large number of money la. If you really need. I can try my best to donate USD40 la.
Hope you can do that.
Thanks

Just to add, the current perpetual license for IP.Board will be substituted by the new licensing structure which will goes into effect once IP.Board 2.2 goes final The current perpetual license allowes lifetime upgrades and additional optional $30 for support. resistance is futile

We've implemented too much of changes to our database, as well as the forum code to cope with the high amount of traffic the site has to handle on a day to day basis. As many would know, the earlier free versions of IPB (which is what we're derived from) wasn't exactly very well written, and we have modified a lot of code and db structure over the years, so none of the IPB upgrade scripts would work without a lot of modifications. We also have no idea how scalable the latest IPB version is on a high traffic site like ours. (which means we've got to spend weeks of sleepless nights tuning it to work properly!)
We will no doubt look into it, but there is no definite timeline at this point in time as the system is quite stable and we do not have the resources to upgrade the board and ensure minimal downtime to the site. There isn't exactly much new fancy stuff in the new IPB to warrant an upgrade, and we prefer to have a stable forum over fancy functions anytime.

Well, one of the reasons we are reluctant to upgrade is that there are significant optimizations that have been put into the code, and that newer versions if IPB can be safely termed bloat-ware. Edit: Damn, se7en beat me to it with a more lengthy response too! This post has been edited by nexus-: Dec 5 2006, 05:08 PM

With so many clicks per day, I'm sure a lot of people would rather just live with what we got instead of enduring weeks/months of ups and downs and fine-tuning. I like it the way it is. At least there isn't a single downtime I can remember off the top of my head.
