Hi guys, I've got a problem.
I have studied audit subject in university. I have also did an internship in audit before.
But I still don't fucking get what is audit and what I am doing.
When I studied audit in university using textbook, it was terrible because nothing made sense. It was all bullshit theory. I thought maybe it will make sense when I actually do audit in real life.
But after my internship, I still don't get what the fuck I am doing.
I feel insecure whether what I am doing is correct. For example, when doing revenue work paper, I don't know how to begin. What the fuck is lead schedule? What is walkthrough and how do u select the test of controls? But first, what the fuck is test of controls?
And I'm a slow learner.
I really wonder if audit is the right choice for me. I like computers. Maybe I should havestudied things like IT, computer science instead of fucking accounting. Plus I was from pure science stream when I was in secondary school so I have no background in accounting. Fuck too late now. I am gonna be completing my degree soon. It will be a waste if I do not work in accounting.

I studied and dont understand at all what accounting really is and in form 6, I was a pure science student till UPU decided that I had to study accounting in a public uni.
Studied it, interned once at a huge GLC (where you had to consolidate accounts, do reconciliation, corporate tax and relief plus all that finance stuff on the side). Heck, I even saw Big 4 auditors cramped up in the room doing all sort of queries and test and they look as stressed as me. So, I know audit definitely not on my plate. I tried advisory and got in at one of the Big 4 and its mainly project management, so you dont learn the hard technical stuff aside from stakeholder management and endless meetings. Its cool to be in meetings, meeting bosses etc but there came a time I realised that I actually didnt learn much as all I know is surface level stuff.
Now, Im in the banking line but thankfully with rotations, at least i can have exposures in fields that are totally different from time to time.
My advice is to get your seniors to help you out and be useful. Also make a good lasting impression to your manager. Then after your promotion to senior, try finding alternative career that you want or at least can bear with for your actual progression. The natural place to go from an audit line is usually in advisory. Get to know people, join the firm's external public events, get in touch with people and you will actually go far.
All the best and if you learn slow, at least start early.
