I understand dat many international airport are also distance away from city capital, just like Taoyuan IA, Incheon IA. But they dun tipu ppl said it's Taipei IA, Seoul IA, even the distance travelled is far shorter than KL from Sepang. Naming it KLIA is the biggest geographical mistake. It's is located 45km away from KL, even after Putrajaya/Cyberjaya, at Sepang district and govern under MPSepang. Naming it KLIA sounds like this airport oso under the federal terrorrity. Look like our BN gov once again steal our precious Selangor land secretly. It should rename to Sepang Internatonal Airport. Therefore, like Taoyuan and Incheon, Sepang can developed to become another aero-metropolitan instead of hiding behind the shade of KL.

There has been million discussion about this...
First of all its just a name. It just to emphasized that the airport is the main capital airport especially to foreigners
No, the tax for the airport still goes to state gov and not federal
Another reason gave is that they want to keep the KUL prefix without applying for new one...easier...all the paperwork and system is carry over from the old airport
Thats what I heard last time

QUOTE(Baconateer @ Nov 16 2015, 03:22 PM) yeah..but thy cant go and rename it now..can they?? so it would remain KLIA for a very long time.. yes, by public awareness power... unfortunately, people still call it KLIA unlike Lapangan Terbang Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (LTSAAS) that people used to called 'Subang Airport'

Any form of renaming of national/public landmarks ALWAYS towards people's name.
For eg. Bijan Airport or Hamsor Loji penbuangan sampah. Dont expect new names to be even more symbolic or useful.

It's for the sake of people from other countries.
Majority of people knows Kuala Lumpur, but quite sure less people would know where Sepang is.

Don't get Tengku Adnan started, later he fed up changing the road name he wants to change the name of KLIA instead. Obviously now Tun Mahathir International Airport is out of consideration.
