Quick question for those who got 457, can share some of your experience on the processing time? How long is the waiting period?

Did my medical in early Jan and got my visa late Jan. Normally you wouldn't know as the company will run the application for you.

The company already started processing my application. I'm not sure why but i wasn't asked for any medical examination report, or only need provide it at a later stage?

Similarly to PR, your company's HR will provide you with a HAP no which you will need to arrange with a Australian approved clinic for check up. When are you expected to start anyway? I was offered in June 13, visa application only started in Jan 14 and work commence mid Feb 14.

Alright, thanks for the input. Anyways, I m starting in July but planning to go like 2 weeks earlier to settle down.

hmm you are right. currently an engineer at a telco company. if compare the salary to those who have been kutiping apple is quite low. why not go kutip apple right ? haha. But somehow it was just a thought on it.
*
Maybe you can consider applying into one of the telco out there in Aussie since you have the prior experience. Unless you're not planning to settle down there, then you can opt for a long holiday with part time like kutip apple.

I dont think any of the telco company there would like to hire Malaysian telco company because our technology is so slow meng. oh btw just in case i want to apply. can u teach me how ?

Honestly, i don't have any tips. Just deposit your resume and if there are any openings providing you're the right candidate, they'll contact you which could probably take up to couple of months time. This is just based on my personal experience and also would be my first time stepping in to Australia. I have no idea how it looks like over there as well.

Well, that's might not be 100% true. My ex-classmate who worked in EY KL applied for position in EY Brisbane & she got the position depending the company is vacant with that and willingness to train you.
*
Yup. You're right. It's possible. I did the same thing but to another big4.

Yea, I think you are right and agree with you big money or split the big money through sharing.

I'm in the Sydney CBD area, renting for $650/week; not sharing. Higher end cause it's a brand new apartment and it's close to 60sqm. I've seen a few other rooms in my building sharing with multiple people so I reckon $150-$200 is doable too.
*
Are you renting a room or a whole unit? I've no idea where am i gonna stay when i touchdown in Sydney. Was thinking to rent a room via Airbnb first for the first month until i found my own place.

It's a 1 bedroom apartment, so the whole unit. If you saw a place you really like maybe you can get some of your family or friends to inspect for you?

Otherwise, Airbnb or a temp accomodation would be a choice for u
*
Ah nice. I think i need to be there personally first as I do not have any friends and family over there. Currently i'm looking at the range of 300-400 per week, where could i possibly stay?

Many areas. Suggest near a train station and the city, so u can move around easily. Use Google Maps and the train map at transportnsw.info as a guide.
For 300pw on airbnb, it may be harder to get near the city. Plug in the dates and search.
Other websites are roommates, gumtree. But gumtree is less safe than airbnb.
You can also look at private hotels. Typically a single room fully furnished with shared facilities 250 or so.
*
How about flatmates.au? Is this site reliable? I had been searching for a room in flatmates for quite some time and found some decent rooms.
And i think i m gonna go like a week earlier of my starting date to walk around the town and familiarise with the place first. Don't wanna be late on the first day. A bit of adventure for me since its my first time.

Today the thread is so quiet. Let me kick-start!

I guess most of the foreigners (include Malaysians/Singaporeans) secured their first job in Australia through networking (i.e to get someone who currently work in Australia and to submit resume on behalf). This is very true especially those foreigners without PR.

For foreigners with PR + studied in Australian uni (no network) - I would say 50% of chances that you will get HR call.
For foreigners with PR + never study in Australian uni (no network) - almost 0% chance that you will get HR call.

For the above, I'm referring to people who applied offshore.

For applicants who are currently reside in Australia, chances are there as well.

My case: When I applied through network, my PR application was still in progress. Once I received the offer (employer willing to sponsor visa 457), I was informed that my PR granted approval. I've never studied in Australian uni also but I did CPA & CA in Sg. So I think my job hunting experience is gonna to be tough but for the assistance from friends.
*
I think it wont make a difference. Its probably the right timing in the right industry.
I got no PR, Malaysia private uni grad, no network (applied offshore via official website), and also it's my first time to Australia. I had been here for a couple of months now on 457.

Trust me its not. I have about 2-3 years of working experience. Also i've got rejected a couple of times in Malaysia for the same position. During my job hunting session, I just try my luck submitting my resume into their official website.

Yes, last but not least the salary will be lower than average income.
Sometimes i received heaps of CV asking for work with FOC

I wouldnt say its low. Dollar to dollar still higher than what i have in Malaysia and thats after tax. Like i said its probably the industry i m in that got me here. I get to do what i wanted which is a bonus for me too.

Do you mind to share what industry that you get involved in?

Apparently I don't think this applies to finance/accounting/medical industry (elsewhere pay better even from dollar to dollar perspective).
*
I m in the IT industry.
Auditor is not too bad i think, at least i knew a few who came on 457 recently.
What about yourself?

Hey guys, need some feedback on how things are in Sydney (state sponsored).

My wife and I will be heading over in March, both without jobs even though we've been applying from Malaysia one and off.
I am a programmer and she's an accountant. She gets replies to notify about having her resume being KIV, while my applications are totally ignored.

Currently considering taking up a course once there for any jobs in demand, but still considering options as we have only enough to last a year in the worst case scenarios.
As such, I would like to know about anyone who managed to land jobs in these two fields. Any luck?

Thanks guys.
*
I would say just keep on applying. Its just a matter of time. Heaps of opportunities in Sydney especially in IT and accounting.
I m in the same field as urs and same as my gf, an accountant. I had been working here for half a year now. Both of us are on working visa.

Thanks! That sounds pretty optimistic for her case. She was previously in property management related accounting. Both of you found jobs in your respective fields so soon?
Sounds good for both of you. If you don't mind me asking, what language are you coding in? I am doing SAP programming, and the available roles unfortunately requires additional 3 or more years of experience. Thinking of starting fresh again in C++/# or anything I can get into. Any suggestions?

Same field as in IT but not programming. I'm sure there are jobs around with SAP programming and yes you'll probably need 2-3 years of experience.

I read some analysis that the backlog for accountants and auditors will result in a waiting time of almost a year for applicants with 70 points.

In Melbourne at least, there seem to be many openings for audit seniors. High turnover results in greater demand. The Big four seem to only be interested in Supervisor/Assistant manager level seniors though. Word of warning, the Big four here is pretty shit in work life balance as well. I'll say that if you are currently in a Big four, the experience is still very much taken into consideration by the audit firms here.
*
Agree with you, that your experience in Big 4 very much taken into consideration by the audit firms here. In some cases, you'll still be able to join as associate or senior.
