Do you guys have any idea on the "PROFESSIONAL YEAR" that are offered in Australia? Read that after completing this will add 5 marks to your points.

But, Is this Useful to help you land a job?
*
The only plus point for professional year is to add 5 points to your migration.

If you do not require that, don't take it. It is not useful in helping you getting a job.

hi all, i plan to not engage any agent.
what is the first step i can do?
submit express of interest?
*
Not sure where your first step starts from.

Assuming you are talking about visa 189 or 190, generally the very step is to do a self evaluation on how many points u can claim.

You may express interest if you have at least 60 points.

You must have obtained skill assessment for your nominated occupation and IELTS results before you express interest.

Yes it's because of higher earned income despite the taxes? Daily expenses are higher but median income is also way higher.

I reckon the take home pay will be about the same. The median income in Australia is higher but the tax rate is also higher.

Good day Seniors,

I have just obtained my visa 189 recently but I am still in Malaysia as I have yet to get a job in Australia. Looking at the current economy of the O&G industry, the outlook doesn't look so good hence I am slowly taking my time to fully move over. I am heading over by end of this month for a week's holiday and to activate my visa therefore I have a few questions that hopefully my seniors here can advise.

1. Can I set up a bank account without an australian permanent address? If I able to, which bank is the best for me to apply?
2. I heard something about medicard. It seems like I am only able to apply if I am currently residing in Australia right?
3. Any other advise before I move over?
*
1. No. You need to have a permanent address for them to post your bank card to. They need to verify your ID (passports, drivers license, Medicare card etc.) and you need to have enough points to proof your identity.

2. To apply for Medicare for the first time, you need to be physically present at a Medicare office with your passport and visa grant details.

IMHO, don't open a bank account or apply for medicare and TFN until you are here permanently. All these require you to have a permanent address - They will post the bank card, Medicare card, TFN details etc. to your permanent address. Only do all these when you move to Australia for good.

I would not worry too much. I have yet to see an accountant PR unemployed . As an accountant I think its easier to get a job in your field. Its much more difficult for IT/Tech or engineering.
*
That's really true. If you hold an accounting degree with a professional qualification, it is quite unlikely that you can't land on an accounting job. Having said that, not everyone with the stated qualifications is able to get into Big 4 or banks easily. Quite a number of them are actually on a accounting job (reporting etc.) in small firms.

Then go Australia almost half slashed eh, I thought that the std of living there quite high?
*
From what i read, it's not half right? 8k+ is gross salary in malaysia which will be 6k+ after EPF deduction and income tax. So there's about 25% cut dollar to dollar.
However, in terms of living standard, you will have a better life if you earning the same amount dollar to dollar.

1) Yes I have heard of them. My parents' friends who are Aussie citizens now used their services in 2000. I used Global Migration. I think Worldlink does NZ visas too.

2) No. Does not make a difference for 189/190.

3) No as well. Not unless you're applying for an SOL that is a translator; but this will require proof and relavant assessing bodies to assess your skills and docs.

4) Yes. I had 75 points. They didn't even have to count my Aussie degree and all my working experience; I would've had more then.
*
3) Yes you will be awarded 5 points if you pass the NATTI translator/ interpreter assessment and got accreditation.

Hi, I want to ask what is the job prospects of a Malaysian mechanical engineer with a degree from an Australian university? Assuming he search for a job immediately after graduation.
*
Since you mentioned Malaysian with a degree from an Australian university, I assume it's done via a twinning/partner program. If he does not have PR, the chance to get a job is pretty much zero.

Guys I'm interested to migrate if opportunity arises but need opinions from those who already migrated.

I'm 29 this year, total work experience as a mechanical engineer 6 years (5 years as maintenance engineer in o&g).

Graduated from US and married with 1 kid. My spouse is a housewife.

Already gone through EOI guideline/procedures etc, and I just need to get below items before submitting the EOI:
1) TOEFL (took it once last 9 years)
2) Accreditation by Engineers Australia

Shall I give it a go or tough luck?  hmm.gif

Although the minimum requirement is to have 60 points, mechanical engineers have reached its ceiling for this financial year (till 30 June 17) and no further invitation will be issued. The last cut-off point for mechanical engineers is 75 points. So once it's refreshed in July 17, those with 75 points and above will be invited first. Based on this trend, it is highly unlikely that anyone with 60 or 65 points will get an invitation.
