Hi all,

I'm new here in this thread.

So I'm graduating next week with a degree in Economics from a university in Canada after studying there for 4 years, and even though I don't have any solid career plans yet, I'm planning to return to Canada next year (Feb-ish?) to look for a job there.

Well right now I hope to secure an internship or contract job in Singapore for the next few months. I honestly don't really mind the pay, I just really want to have some experience in Singapore. Who knows if I like the work culture there and if the company accepts me for long term I might end up staying there? XD

I've been trying to apply for a number of jobs from InternSG etc. already. But right now what worries me is the work pass issue. I'm no longer entitled for the Training Employment Pass cause I'm graduating already, and the Work Holiday Programme pass doesn't apply to Canadian universities..... sadly.... The only one that I saw that I think I could remotely get is the S pass? Then again, I don't really have any real work experiences and I'm worried for applying for fresh grad jobs so quickly, real work experiences as in like internships. I've done numerous volunteer activities, contributed to alot of community clubs and participated in a number of projects but none of which are like the nature of internships, that's why I was just thinking of starting small and low in SG.

But since now I think the only pass that I'm entitled for is the S pass(?), that means the job that I get must pay me at least 2.2k sgd?

Any thoughts or comments on this?

Thank you!

There's still work permit but with degree I doubt they will give you that. No problem working here short term with S Pass or E Pass right? But if the post is really temporary intern I'm not sure what kind of pass can the company apply for you. You can't really apply the passes. Only the employer can apply for that.

Yeah that's my hope. I just want to know if it will be a waste of time for me to apply for those short term contract based jobs if most of the passes are not even applicable to my case.

I would say you better just apply for full time job without minimum employment period/contract.

But have to take note... If you work in SG between 61 and 183 days, prepare to give up 15% tax or is it 20%? Non-resident rate. hmm.gif

Wah I'm not prepared to commit full time in sg, so the only way to secure a work pass is through full time :/ ?

Anyhow, other than InternSG and Jobstreet, are there any other recommended job hunting websites that people usually frequent for fresh grad jobs? :B

Very few part time job available for office-based work. And most company won't hire foreigner for temp job, due to the quota of work permits. If you just want to get some working experience, why not try in your home country? It'd be a lot easier to get a contract role in big MnC.

One reason also because I don't really want to stay in Msia for my break :l How bout a 1 year contract based work? That one also too short?
