Hey guys and gals, quick question. What do I need in terms of documents to drive into Singapore for an interview, apart from a passport? Thanks much in advance for your advice. Edit: I should make clear this is about documents for the car. I read on LTA that the following are needed: 1. Road tax disc 2. Insurance policy (I renewed online, would a printout of the digital certificate do?) 3. Autopass card (I gathered this can be purchased on-the-spot at the checkpoint?) 4. In-vehicle unit (also mentioned can be rented at the checkpoint?) Are these all that is needed? Thanks. This post has been edited by vincentleong: Mar 5 2016, 12:17 PM

QUOTE(knwong @ Mar 5 2016, 01:11 PM) You will be asked to fill in the Autopass application form after checkpoint clearance. Those docs above are needed for new application. IU no need to rent la, very hassle. Just drive through the ERP gantry and pay $5 daily. I wouldn't worry too much on above. What you should be concerned is parking - the fee can cost a bomb if park in CBD & whether the car park accept the new chipless Autopass card (if not you have to inconvenient behind car users to reverse) Thanks! ERP gantry has a touch-card or cash lane? I'll be driving straight to a hotel at non-peak hours the night before, leave my car at the hotel parking and take a cab to the office in the morning because the interview is very early, so I hope the HDB parking is less of a concern for me?

QUOTE(knwong @ Mar 5 2016, 02:02 PM) The gantry is not like the one is Msia. No booth counter. You can google to have a feel of it. Just drive through and the sensor above will capture your car plate number Hotel sometime their car park still use the old cash card with chip. Scare your new Autopass without chip cannot work. Better call and ask Good tip! Thanks!

QUOTE(vincentleong @ Mar 28 2016, 05:41 PM) Anyone here live in JB and drive to SG for work every day? QUOTE(knwong @ Mar 28 2016, 07:31 PM) What would you like to know about driving? It's a costly affair. Having said that there are many who are doing it I was wondering how long it would take to drive from JB to your workplace in SG everyday. I have been monitoring Google Maps traffic for a while now to get a feel for it and it seems the travel by car from JB town to eastern part of the island would take about 60-70 minutes one-way between 8-10am and 5-7pm almost every week day. The bridge crossing itself would take about 20 minutes. Is the estimation generally correct? I took a drive few weeks earlier and it seems to have confirmed it. Btw, I'll be starting in SG in July and I look forward to be part of the "family".

QUOTE(knwong @ Apr 15 2016, 12:29 PM) Causeway crossing on average takes 30 min driving in the morning. Evening rush is worse. Give yourself 1.5 - 2 hours buffer when driving to work. Say work at 9am, come out at 7am Perfect. Field advise is always the best. Thanks!

QUOTE(madmoz @ Apr 19 2016, 05:15 PM) erhmm... not sure if this is the proper place to ask, but spotify or apple music? lol. sorry to be out of topic ya Spotify. Getting it for "free" as part of the telco plan bundle. Otherwise Apple, coz I'm deep in their ecosystem and it's one less account to deal with. Edit: Maybe try both to see which one you like better? Their algorithms for music recommendations are rather different. This post has been edited by vincentleong: Apr 19 2016, 07:02 PM

QUOTE(danieltan @ Apr 25 2016, 04:26 PM) 1. Passport 2. Permit Card 3. Malaysia IC Minimum require to have SGD1000 in the deposit. If lesser, every month will deduct SGD2. They wont ask u to put money inside in order open the account for first time. Is an IPA acceptable in-lieu of permit card? I'm planning to get the bank account opened before I report for my first day.

QUOTE(KilJim @ Apr 26 2016, 04:20 PM) If I remember correctly you can use IPA to open at POSB only https://www.posb.com.sg/personal/deposits/s...s/posb-esavingsThanks for the info. Looks like I might not have the same luck with my preferred bank DBS. Is it unusual for one to request HR to issue the EP card before one's first day? I have a 3-week gap between employment allocated for relocation purpose and so I thought perhaps I can collect it earlier during the gap and open a local bank account, if this is not an unreasonable request. They sent me some forms to complete ahead of joining, one of which asked for my bank account details, to be submitted on first day. Btw, this sentence seems to be quite common among the banks for required documents: Passport and relevant pass issued by the Immigration and Checkpoint Authority of Singapore. Do you have any idea what the bank could have meant with "relevant pass"? This post has been edited by vincentleong: Apr 26 2016, 04:49 PM

QUOTE(XiuKeong @ Apr 26 2016, 05:35 PM) Your company HR need to make appointment with MOM for you before process the card itself for thumbprint and photo. Then wait few days for the card to be delivered to your new company. Not sure about the pass but maybe they meant EP card. Ah, thanks. I got the process wrong.

QUOTE(knwong @ Apr 26 2016, 06:26 PM) Banks including government services here constantly change and update their procedures. Whatever advise you received here regarding opening of bank accounts, approval and collection of EP cards may have change a lot from yester years. Best is to call in to the banks and government agencies to enquire Haha! Yeah, I realised that. Will try my luck if I get to hop on the island before joining and share my experience. =)
