Anyone opened DBS saving account recently? Just wonder if any initial deposit like $500 required? Can we open account using IPA letter? My EP has not been issued yet.
*
On a related question, I have a CIMB account in Malaysia and would like to apply for a new saving account in Singapore, do I have to put in any deposit in SGD for the SG account? Or can I directly apply a new one and remit directly? (Or can I even skip this step? Since I've already had a CIMB account, not sure if they operate separately or together)

Summary:
1. Have CIMB Malaysia Account
2. Would like to register SG account
3. Do I have to put in deposit in SGD/remit from Malaysia account?
4. Can I skip step 3 if I already had a Malaysia account?

Is it possible for an engineering graduate with 1~2 years of experience to land a job in Singapore banking field?

I've tried to search for electronics engineering jobs in JobStreet and Monster for about a month to two but so far no news yet. I might try to look for some banking jobs if there's the possibility.

Does banking in Singapore more favour finance background graduates? I'm having a second class mechatronics engineering B.E degree with some working experience in a MNC company for test engineering field and M&E industry for management experience.

Personally I'm quite fond with programming logic, statistics and data analysis although I would still prefer to look for programming related occupation but banking seems to be pretty good for career growth.

Edit: Most of my skills in computing are not usual computer programming (HTML, PHP, Java etc.), instead my knowledge is in MATLAB, LabView, C++, VB etc. Might have some variance as compared to software engineering as my programming is usually used to control machine to perform certain action rather than GUI.

SG PR kentut also more wangi than Malaisian lo. Of coz more points lo, wah lau blue ic leh, better than the green one.

But wouldn't getting a PR from Singapore and then apply for a PR in Australia makes them feel like you're a country hopper?

**so called Permanent Resident but doesn't reside there permanently

Kidding aside, does getting the PR really helps? Because I am planning to get few years exposure in SG just taking working visas then move to OZ and apply for their OZ PR, if it does helps then I might consider taking the SG PR

I haven't move there yet, still seeking for jobs online and ex-colleague contact right now. But my ultimate plan is to move from Msia -> SG -> Aus throughout my lifetime.

Anyway things might change once I've stepped into SG, who knows the future haha.

u in which line ? welcome to sg

I had half year experience in semiconductor test engineering field. After that I moved to management and business development line in steel industry for about a year. Now I'm looking to jump back to electronics/programming field (probably going back in as fresh grad level), not really like my current field.

True or not ? I only know once take PR ... 37% of your $$$ can see cannot touch and every year minus this, minus that  tongue.gif .
I don't see any extra qualification points on their website (married, children, Aus degree, ielts, etc) for SG PR, maybe you found something different do share smile.gif. On another note, why don't you just go direct to Aus ? If you are less than 32 there is a holiday / work visa thingy, not sure if that is still available.
*
Wanted to live closer to Malaysia first as my family is still nearby and get more working experience first. After I climb higher in career then maybe I'm bringing my parents over to Australia if possible, currently still don't have the capability yet haha.

Holiday/work visa last for only about half year so not really suitable for my case.

Not sure whether you can get your parents there, or they are only allowed to stay there for some period only.
Australia is suitable if you go there early. See my friend, the father cannot stand, every month fly back to Malaysia.
*
Hmm, I googled and found that there's some parents visa (temporary and permanently) available in Australia but haven't look it through yet coz I still not heading there yet.

I haven't been working outside Malaysia before so I thought somewhere closer where help is available in a few hour of drive away would be a good start first. Besides, trying out one of the busiest and highest stress country while I'm still young can let me experience and learn more haha.

That visa is half a year if you cannot find a job. A friend of mine use that to get over there, job hop a couple of times and is now a PR there.
*
Hmm, from what I see from the website is that for each working/holiday visa only allow us to work for the same employer for half year max. Since I'm in engineering field this might not be looking so good for my resume haha. I'm thinking of taking skill migration visa next time.

You're considering to move to OZ too?

How's the job market for Sales & Marketing (Preferably non engineering product) in Sg for Malaysian? Especially for engineering graduates with 1 year experience in business development?

I've been sending about a hundred of applications in engineering field through job sites but so far no avail. Planning to jump into sales/business development if possible, wanted to meet more different people and do different stuff. (I actually didn't liked engineering but it seemed that engineering is able to provide better salary over time)

Haha vice versa in Malaysia. Wanted to venture into different field to gain more exposure while still young, but it seemed that the job market is not a good timing right now.

Dont mean to troll and no intention to troll. I always feel that the competition to secure a job is hard and even harder if you want to get promoted in sg. You have to compete with the sg citizens. Correct me if im wrong. Today my friend called me to update me on hows life working in philipines. I am flabbergasted until she told me that no degree or cert holders in her company which was added advantage to her over there considering her experience in malaysia although she has no certs as well. I mean it may sound pretty easy to get promoted over there. The pay is good too in usd. But why do people choose sg over other neighbouring countries ?

There's a lot more reason behind. Such as culture (foods more similar to Malaysia), language barrier, transportations, safety & environment, tax benefits in SG and etc.

Hi everyone. I'm tentatively having a job interview next Wednesday in Singapore Science Park Road. The interview time is around 1.30~2pm. Tentatively because the company comes with Japanese culture and I had some bad experience with one so might wanted to reject this interview instead.

Should I be in Singapore a day earlier or should I take the bus in the morning and going back after the interview? The accommodation in Singapore is quite expensive as I'm on a low budget. If recommended to be there one day earlier where should I stay?

Edit: Or should I take plane? Or maybe take plane from KL-SIN, then bus from SIN-KL

Shouldn't you figure out if you want to proceed with the interview or not first?

Anyway my recommendation is if you're budget conscious, fly in and out
Weekday flights aren't too expensive and your interview timing is not too early/late

But if I were you, get a cheap place and fly in/bus the day before
Personally i don't like rushing and would rather spend a bit more, so it depends on your style
*
I'm trying to schedule up another interview on the same day if possible. Will proceed with the interview if there's another one so that I can save on another trip, otherwise I'm probably going to reject this one.

I have checked on AirAsia and found a return flight of RM200+ on the same day, considering from TBS via KLIA transit will be roughly RM280+-. Taking bus will be around RM100-RM130 only but it will take 5+5 hours so it seemed to be quite tiring for a day trip, and also excluding the immigration side might take another hour or so.

I have also checked on Agoda and it almost cost RM200 a night for accommodation, seemed too expensive from my budget hmm... Anyway thanks for your recommendation!

BTW wondering if anyone working with a Japanese MNC in Singapore please give some info about it (Lifestyle, culture, etc), I'm trying not to group the entire "Japanese Culture" a bad tray of eggs just because one of the bad egg I have tried. But so far from a few of the review I read from glassdoor for the company I'm scheduled with seemed to have the same kind of problem I faced before. doh.gif
