Government hospital only subsidise just a tiny bit for pr only. Don't expect like marehsia rm1 kinda medical bill. a simple surgery easily cost you s$5k minumum after subsidised.

Just go and buy insurance. Your CPF would subsidise part of the insurance premium and it's not even that expensive (was quoted $800 a year for hospitalisation insurance).

Even in Malaysia, you should buy insurance anyway unless you don't mind being on waiting lists for surgeries at government hospitals. With insurance, you can opt for private hospitals if you want to.

If you're a PR, just add the IP premium to your medishield

Lucky gf and me got covered with health insurance as she was admitted to hospital after few months later for a surgery. Cost about 25K plus and can able to claim back....damn relief lol.
