You cannot defer for tertiary studies. Whether or not you would be allowed to defer to finish your SPM & O levels is another story (for overseas studies). If living and going to school in Singapore you can defer. My so had a 5 years deferment when he went into NAFA. But as he only stayed there for two years he lost his deferment and went into NS/Navy. That fact that you are living in Malaysia and going to school won't bode well as I'm assuming the whole family is there, but honestly I'm inclined to think, IF they allow it, it will entail the exit permits and bond route

The problem as I see it, isn't the deferment to complete N or O levels but whether it can be done while overseas, which technically it is (e.g., a different country) I know deferrals can be done IN Singapore but I don't know about outside Singapore.

If you are between 13 and 16.5 years old (You need to apply for an exit permit if you intend to travel or remain overseas for 3 months or longer. If you are remaining overseas for 2 years or longer, your parents/guardians will also need to furnish a bond, in the form of a Banker's Guarantee of S$75,000 or 50% of the combined annual gross income of both parents for the preceding year, whichever is higher.

If you are above 16.5 and have not enlisted for NS:
