Hi all, anyone dealt with a circumstances where second generation PR, had been call to serve NS halfway during form5 studies in malaysia? if he go in NS now he would had forfeit his SPM this year.

(because SG student already complete their O level at 16 years old so they are oblige to serve NS at 16.5 years old)

i know its out of topic from this thread but i hope anyone who had dealt with this or heard this kind of situations happened before can shed some light to me.

thanks in advance.

Inform the person who called you up and try to defer it for a year? Then go after Spm if you still want to maintain your pr status.

Nope, no person called me but a letter was send to my brother. it is not me. its my little brother.

should be able to submit to mindef for deferment since still studying.

thats what i thought of too. but seems like thats not the case.

some replies from other forum i encountered.

You cannot defer for tertiary studies. Whether or not you would be allowed to defer to finish your SPM & O levels is another story (for overseas studies). If living and going to school in Singapore you can defer. My so had a 5 years deferment when he went into NAFA. But as he only stayed there for two years he lost his deferment and went into NS/Navy. That fact that you are living in Malaysia and going to school won't bode well as I'm assuming the whole family is there, but honestly I'm inclined to think, IF they allow it, it will entail the exit permits and bond route

QUOTE
The problem as I see it, isn't the deferment to complete N or O levels but whether it can be done while overseas, which technically it is (e.g., a different country) I know deferrals can be done IN Singapore but I don't know about outside Singapore.

QUOTE
Based on some SC Kids who studied overseas, this is what you need to do :

If you are between 13 and 16.5 years old (You need to apply for an exit permit if you intend to travel or remain overseas for 3 months or longer. If you are remaining overseas for 2 years or longer, your parents/guardians will also need to furnish a bond, in the form of a Banker's Guarantee of S$75,000 or 50% of the combined annual gross income of both parents for the preceding year, whichever is higher.

If you are above 16.5 and have not enlisted for NS:
You need to apply for an exit permit if you intend to travel or remain overseas for 3 months or longer. Your parents/guardians will need to furnish a bond, in the form of a Banker's Guarantee of S$75,000 or 50% of the combined annual gross income of both parents for the preceding year, whichever is higher.

anyone with experiencing this kind of situation before maybe can shed some light to me ?
