I might accept an offer to work at Changi airport. Need advise here..

1. I plan rent a room at JB because want saving some cost. Is it far from Changi?
Did i need spend 3-4 hour transport a day to work at there?

2.How much average rental for a single room at Singapore and JB?

3.Any website to find a room at Singapore and JB?
*
Working in Changi airport itself meaning you are working with retail shops there? Then no need to rush to work so early

Can stay near Johor CIQ and take direct bus to Changi airport: http://www.regentstar.travel/crossborder/1...812trips%29.pdf

RM10 one way. Another S$10 return

Hi everyone, may i know did you guys pay income tax to singapore?
i worked for 3 month at singapore, did i have to pay income tax for 2015 or clearance tax?

I heard some said if less than certain amount than no need to pay any tax.
*
I think you didn't state clearly a lot of info.

When did you start working in 2015?

Did you continue to work into 2016?

Have you left the job and return home?

All those have different implication on taxation

I was wondering how long it would take to drive from JB to your workplace in SG everyday. I have been monitoring Google Maps traffic for a while now to get a feel for it and it seems the travel by car from JB town to eastern part of the island would take about 60-70 minutes one-way between 8-10am and 5-7pm almost every week day. The bridge crossing itself would take about 20 minutes.

Is the estimation generally correct? I took a drive few weeks earlier and it seems to have confirmed it.

Btw, I'll be starting in SG in July and I look forward to be part of the "family". biggrin.gif

Causeway crossing on average takes 30 min driving in the morning. Evening rush is worse.

Give yourself 1.5 - 2 hours buffer when driving to work. Say work at 9am, come out at 7am

JB masuk Singapore on causeway during morning rush hour 20-30min? Really? Honest question, I would have assumed it would take super long.

If driving it is not as bad as you think.

If motorbike or bus takes longer

with the current crisis , what do you guys think of the currency now ?
maybe its time to move some back to malaysia already ?
*
You are just speculating on this. Even the best economist can't advise you on this

Best financial arrangement for me is to stay put and only transfer when you have the need to use the money in MY, such as buy house, settle PTPTN loan - regardless of what the currency exchange like at that time

I transfer big sum of money back more than a year ago thinking by putting it in MY Bank FD the high interest can earn more. Then I realize by NOT moving any of those money back i can earn more through increasing SGD to MYR conversion

Is that true? Motorbike will take even longer than cars?
Then on average how long does motorbike will take?

30mins for cars to cross doesnt sound so bad to me.. But what time crossing we r talking about? 7am?
*
Never ride motorbike crossing the Causeway myself so please take my advise with pinch of salt

But according to a technician friend working in Yishun which I met 2 years ago, he wakes up 4:30am so that he can be in time to reach work before 7am. Average 1 hr time to cross

I have been doing daily commute from JB to SG every workday (via Tuas 2nd link).
Working hours 9am-6pm, but I leave home at 5:30am. Most of the time I reach my office at Commonwealth around 6:30-7:00am.
Tried leaving home at 6:00am (30 mins later) but end up spending more time in the jam.

Going back to JB after work has always been a problem for us. Sometimes it can jam for 1-2 hours even if I go back at 8pm.
*
Your mode of transport is?

There's certain behaviour to the route once you are familiar with the 2 checkpoints, like which lane is faster to queue, time to arrive, etc.
For going back, I always take Kranji side when approaching Woodlands Checkpoint and Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim (passing by the Top Up booth) when heading towards Tuas Checkpoint. Both route are faster and easier to 'squeeze' in

Wow, thanks for the info.

Seems like have to find some other method like taking the train?
*
If you are talking about the KTM JB Sentral - Woodlands CIQ, those 5:30am to 7am schedule are normally sold out, 30 days in advance. Other time schedule still can purchase as not peak hour

how difficult it is to get a job thru jobstreet. mainly in science or manufacturing. saw loads of lab technician jobs, tended towards microbio/chem especially.... but i do not have relevant background in those.. i do possess a Bsc anyway and few years non related experience.

i honestly prefer a stable steady routine clock in clock out job.

i just wonder given the apparently reccessing economy and laid off in Sg, but isnt that towards the middle aged high earning execs..
cuz apparently, their salary and compensation are much higher and doesnt tally the amount of work they actually contribute.
*
Very difficult. Jobstreet is a very popular job hunting platform, for every job posted there are 100 applicants. You know your probability already

To get into S'pore it's easier if you know friends or family who can recommend you into S'pore companies. According to a HR study, 70% of jobs in companies are never advertise. If no suitable internal candidates or recommendations, then only it'll get advertise

Your last statement there will not go well with senior members. You are stereotyping too much. Companies hire high post with different expectation or KPI, commensurate with market rate pay for them. Eventually you will reach that position in the future. You'll know you sounded foolish for coming out with that statement later when it hit you back

Banks including government services here constantly change and update their procedures.

Whatever advise you received here regarding opening of bank accounts, approval and collection of EP cards may have change a lot from yester years. Best is to call in to the banks and government agencies to enquire

Currently I am in Singapore. I came in with white card to go MOM to give statement. But then they withheld my passport and don't let me out. Say that I need to stay in SG to further assist on investigation. Is it possible for them to hold tourist's passport?

The way you ask the question is not intelligent, that's why you get that kind of response. Should have ask first for anyone who works in Jurong Shipyard...

During this downturn whatever HR benefits available all this years may be reduced already

Guys, one year of working experience in Malaysia doesnt count as experience meh?  I went for interview in Singapore on yesterday and the interviewer told me so. Is this true? or they are trying to low ball me?

On the side notes, do you guys think jobstreet is good for hunting entry level job? I have sent over 500 applications and only got 1 interview so far.  I came from accounting and finance background. Any other site recommendation? Thanks first.
*
If you are young, fresh from college plus 1 year work, generally company still consider fresh. Have to train up a lot

But if you are early thirties with only 1 year relevant experience, then chances to land a job is higher. These are matured workers, with good problem solving, self-reliant

I tried applying jobs from jobstreet for the past 6 months. I sent so many out until jobstreet gave me a warning. There are no replies from any of them. I start to wonder if its because I am not a PR? or something wrong with my resume.

*
How many jobs did you applied actually? Never know JobStreet cap a limit to someone's application hmm.gif
